As a southern Muslim, I can confirm that this very issue was the focus of today’s Friday sermon in Lasuth jumaat mosque. The Yoruba imam who led the prayer emphasized the importance of unity and warned against division among Muslims.

By the special grace of God, your attempts to divide us will not succeed.

Mr Sultan of Sokoto was warned - Yoruba people will mess him up if he tries to act as their overlord or something! The Yoruba are first and foremost Yoruba people before being christians or Muslims - they will unite and fight against anyone who wants to use religion to divide them. If this issue is pushed any further than necessary,the Emir of Fulani in Ilorin will begin to have serious problems!

Yoruba Muslims are not under the sultan of Sokoto and they will never be. There had been Islam in Yoruba land before Uthman Dan Fodio found his way to northern Nigeria. The oldest mosque in Nigeria is in Yoruba land - Iwo in Osun state to be precise.

The gas lighting is working as the enemy wants it to work. They have been trying to use some events, situations, words, foul languages to create divisions between us. And this is exactly their plan. They want us to see northerners as a lesser Muslim and we should not be align with them in any religious affairs. They us want us to believe that Northerners sees southerners as a lesser Muslim and they are important than us in Islam. All of these are plans of enemy towards division of Muslim and it's working perfectly.
Our noble prophet did not discriminate between black and Arab, white and yellow skin and between southern and northerners. But the weak Muslim in Nigeria are allowing the Christians to gas light between them.
This similar method is what the west used to wean the power of Islamic empire. If we come together, we will triumphant and if we go in separate, it's a win for enemy to conquer us.
Muslim wake up, this strategy has long been used by Christians. Northerners are not better than us and we are not serving them. Neither do we also better than them.
The best among us are those who fear Allah in open and close.

There can be other paid Muslim groups that will challenge the league, but the message has been sent out. Yoruba Muslims have separated from the Sultan of Sokoto spiritual leadership.
