God as the Holy Spirit is too big to be contained by the world. This is because Everything in Existence is contained within God. Solomon was just saying that the Temple He built is not an expression of God's true majesty!

1Kin 8:27:
"But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain you; how much less this house that I have built?"

Since you hold a different understanding, Can you please explain
Exodus 25:8
"Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them"

Exodus 29:46
"And they shall know that I am the Lord their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt, that I may dwell among them. I am the Lord their God".

2 Corinthians 6:16 Paul says,
