Nigeria’s Inflation Rate Drops To 24.48% by treesun(op): 12:30pm On Feb 18, 2025
Nigeria’s headline inflation has dropped to 24.48 per cent year on year in January 2025.

This is a sharp decline from the 34.80 per cent headline inflation recorded in December 2024.

This is according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The Statistician-General of the Federation Adeyemi Adeniran announced this on Tuesday.

He said the Consumer Price Index (CPI) – which measures the rate of change in prices of goods and commodities – has declined to 24.48 per cent year on year in January.

Adeniran who was speaking during a briefing in Abuja, explained that urban inflation stood at 26.09 per cent while rural inflation came to 22.15 per cent.

He said that the general prices of goods and services in the country declined, compared to the 34.80 per cent in December, which used the old template.

CPI rebasing means updating the reference year used to gauge price levels in the country by essentially changing the basket of goods and services used to measure inflation, to better reflect current consumer spending patterns and ensure the inflation data accurately reflects the economy’s current.

According to the CPI figures for the period under review, the rebased food inflation stood at 26.08 per cent year-on-year in January, representing a decline in the food index when compared with 39.84 per cent year-on-year recorded in the preceding month.

Good

Fuel subsidy has been removed. More savings have been achieved and state givernments now have more to spend.

Minimum wage has been raised and states are no longer owing workers salaries.

This is how to build an economy.

I just hope that the president will extend some clemency to release Nnamdi Kanu. He is deserving of some respite at thjs stage despite his many errors. I also hope that we find some relief per public transportation.

Where are the CNG buses? Why is re-kitting vehicles to CNG not a major focus of government?

The president is definitely doing well despite the odds that hurt and I wish him well.

Propaganda!

You left the template that was near perfection and reality-driven to a not-so-intelligent rebased method to conceal the numbers.

Government of Propaganda.

What metrics should we be looking at?

I will need to calculate it myself also...

Useless government using pages of newspapers to reduce inflation.
I know it will come to this when the mediocre president said he would reduce inflation from 34.6 to 15 percent without saying how he would achieve it.
Now he is reducing it on the pages of newspapers.
How did the statistics come?

Whoever wrote this article isn't straightforward. You are saying inflation dropped to 24% YoY and was compared to the previous month. Why compare apples to pineapples?

Useless and misleading news.
Go to the market and see how expensive things are.
The govt rebased the economy in order to churn out false economic parameters that look better on paper but the people know the stark reality on ground.
Re: Nigeria’s Inflation Rate Drops To 24.48% by 24kmagik: 1:43pm On Feb 18, 2025
He's actually right. I don't know how they arrived at the percentage but there's a drastic reduction in the price of foodstuffs in the market.

For example, a mudu of beans was N2200 in December, it's N1600 now.

Groundnut was N2500, it's N2300 now.

Farmers are already crying. Those who stored grains are already regretting.

So yes, there's some truth in this News, but it's not favouring me sha
Re: Nigeria’s Inflation Rate Drops To 24.48% by oz4real83(m): 1:43pm On Feb 18, 2025
Some prices are dropping while some are still going up. I bought a bag of wow rice in December for 140k, I bought a few days ago for 94k. I spent 6k\rubber of beans in December but 4.5k\rubber also a few days ago. 5litres of kings groundnut oil for 24k in December but 18.5k for the same few days ago. Prices are dropping not due to any favourable govt policies but inflation due to December demand and pressure is gradually easing off, also, producers are trying to sell off their goods to avoid excess losses due to low consumer purchasing power and low demand.

When the same NBS announced increased inflation rate figure, you all rushed to believe and dance to the figure without question.
But now that it is positive, you suddenly remembered to ask question.

Like I said in an earlier post, you people are always looking for negative news to dance and masturbate to just because of election loss? And anytime they hear positive news about the country, they suddenly become sad and upset.

This is no more opposition but the spirit of witchcraft that is dwelling in them when you always wish bad thing happens to your country. They better look for a genuine Man of God to conduct deliverance on them before it becomes a mental issue.

nnewsnjobs:
Very sharp decline. But I don't think this is really showing in our day to day business. Things are still very high in the market and cost of living is still very high.

The decline in inflation is not actually being felt by the people. Although there is a little stability right now in forex. Price of petrol needs to come down to #500 per liter so that people can really feel the impact of inflation drop.
The only way that can happen is if subsidy returns. No country in the world sells unsibsidised petrol for the equivalent of that figure.

We need to be realistic with our expectation.

NB, for the less knowledgeable, they are not saying prices are decreasing oo. It simply means the rate of increase is not as high as it was this time last year.
