Nigeria is multicultural and multilingual almost 500 languages and for this reason English is our lingua franca.
Nigeria was also given to you by the same people who gave you English, so neither Nigeria nor English is your representation.

Aslong as Nigeria as an entity exists it is our legal representation.

When Ife kingdom was trading in wheat, cotton, ivory, glassbeads e.t.c with Mali in the 11th -14th century, people from (Ufe) Ife were referred to OloRIOba, ORUBA, yORUBA people & there is one king that is referred to Olori Oba till date i.e. The Ooni of Ife.

More reading below from a book written in 1864.
Did Oduduwa descend to Ife in the 11th century?

Making reference from a book written in 1864 isn’t acceptable. There are 16 Odu ifa. Mention just one in any of those Odu that has the word “Yoruba” in it.

Yorubas want to write their law in Yoruba language. That's the right thing to do. You cannot be in your right state of mind and have an objection to that.

Do you even understand the context at all?

We are talking about Identifying with a tribe, you are talking about the Name

Oduduwa descendants spread across these places. and that made them sons of Oduduwa

Its like asking if Augustus Caesar ever made reference to the word "Italy" since all he knew was just Roman Empire and as such, he isnt Italian cheesy
Yoruba is not a tribe. It is a people from Oyo specifically. Remo, Ijebu, Ijesha, Ekiti, Ilesha. These were how people living in present day Nigeria called themselves, at least according to little history available.

No where has anyone even from Ife called themselves Yoruba.

Lagos was a federal capital b4 abuja and has a very mixed population. It must show that mixed representation if not why doesn't abuja write their laws in their local language o dialect or u think abuja is no man's land?? undecided

China are teaching physics in Chinese, Germany in German, France in French, but this idiot thinks it's no to do that in Yoruba. Na mumu dey worry you.
These are dynasties that have the weapons, population and resources to pull others into themselves, of which if you look into their conquests/history have done so centuries back. Expecting that the Yoruba empire will stand with the likes of France and China is delusional, because by the time it gets to where they are today, the world as we know it wouldn’t be bothered about language or tribal differences.

Nigeria should be moving towards cohesion and not disintegration. Turning back the hands of time is foolhardy.

Why should we be pushing to have 520 translation of the same text?

I’ve observed that the angst felt by most yorubas in this platform is misplaced. The expropriation compensation associated with the ouster of all non-indigenes from the region will bankrupt the region, and where does that leave the state?

@Mods, you really need to be up and doing with your tasks. This is a public forum of international reach and uncouth individuals should be banned indefinitely. Please erase this post and treat accordingly.

definitely not. I have never refered to lagos as a no mans land. Im saying the fact it is a Yoruba state doesn't mean it must ignore its unique structure as a metropolitan state also.

This is what abuja has done sofar.

@GeneralPula, thank you for showing these ignorant people the light. The original Yoruba land extended up to Togo and some parts of Ghana. It was the British that bulkanised Yoruba states. So, culturally and spiritually, these Eguns and the like still see themselves as Yorubas, just as many Brazilians, some Portuguese, Trinidad and Tobagoans and Cubans also see themselves as Yorubas.

It's shocking, the rate of stupidity on Nairaland.
My brother, it’s so unfortunate..

The article NEVER said that Lagos State law would no longer be in English, rather it said that the law would be translated to native Yoruba language to encourage deeper penetration of the knowledge of the law.

We are not English people. We are Africans!!

All those people who you mentioned migrated from Ile Ife so they are Yorubas

In the old days Yorubas called themselves Otu Ife. ( Ife Diaspora)
But the Hausa had called them all Yorubas since the 16th Century

Togolese Yoruba are still called Ife today

No country will amount to anything using a foreign language to teach their children. If you're in doubt, point me to just one developed country that's using a foreign language as the primary language of instructions in their schools.
If you still don't know the role of language in technology development as related to education, then I'm sorry for you.
I doubt our black ancestors that built pyramids will be able to do so if they were speaking a foreign language.

Much ado about nothing..
Songs of inferiority complex.. Siege mentality..
I mean, do it already and stop with the shenanigans..This noise have been going on since APC came to power.

You can go the extra mile to tell all Yorubas in Lagos not ever transact anything with anyone who does not speak Yoruba. Put your feet down on that and stop disturbing us everyday with all these talk about the need to yorubanise Lagos state.

All I ask for is to have a new financial capital for the country in one of the littoral states. Calabar? Warri? Akwa Ibom? Lagos is tired of "accommodating" us , it is time the get tired of accommodating all the federal government largesse they corner every year..
There!
You wrote all this nonsense full of fear and hatred just because a state in Yoruba land wants to have a Yoruba translation of its laws. Your bitterness is a world beater o. Habba!
