Why Are Tech Jobs Difficult To Get? by adaperry25(op): 8:14pm On Feb 17, 2025
The noise about tech got into my head and I quit my 8-5 job. Though the 8-5 job was becoming stressful and toxic, I couldn't cope and had to leave.

I had saved some funds and learned data analytics. Now here is where the issue lies.

I've applied to more than a thousand jobs and I keep getting rejections.

My hope was to get a remote job but I'm not seeing it coming.

Is tech all about noise or it's just saturated?

While learning , we were told a data analyst earns 30k USD annually. I'm just getting tired and frustrated

I feel your frustration. That's the same reason I've been sceptical about taking tech courses. I'll only enrol for one if I'm sure of relocating. I got a degree in Mathematics/Computer Scinece but I can confirm the guys that bagged Science Degrees from my school that are practicing what they read and are balling are the Engineering and Architecture guys. Most of the IT guys despite all their certifications are struggling. I'm shelfing my IT Certification plans for a PG in Finance so I can make significant progress.

it's useless posting the vacancies then since it's based on recommendations.

Not all tech jobs in Nigeria is based on recommendation,

All jucy jobs are on recommendation
In short any employment opportunity in Nigeria is based on recommendation.

Even teaching , security nannyjob

Nigeria is not a country to seek employment without proper networking.

But the truth is,

Almost all tech jobs can be automated now with AI,
The speed with which it's application is increasing begs the question will there be jobs in the nearest future?

I WAS emphasis on was a graphic designer and web developer looking for paid gigs online,
Until I downloaded ChatGPT then realized my skill will become obsolete soon from what chat got could do as at the time,

Today AI is making videos, paintings, websites even cloning and maintenance,

Now who will pay for something that can be done almost free with AI

About some years ago especially during the pandemic there was so many jobs, IT companies were literally begging people then, but I think there's a paradigm shift now

I thinking the downside to this A.i things is the end result would usually be repetitive

Tech jobs are over rated in Nigeria. A country that can't boost of year round electricity supply can't be talking about tech.
Go outside Nigeria you will enjoy tech jobs.
If you see how AI is revolutionizing businesses in Asian countries like China,Japan,Korea and across Europe you will know better.
You are expressing this frustration cos you are still in Nigeria.

IT guys across the west dey ball big time.ask anyone close to you that lives abroad.

I met a guy at phone repair arena sometime last year. The guy brought a top notch Samsung phone for minor troubleshooting.(Just unlocking and restore)
He signed in and gave the guys in the repair dept the phone after telling them what the problem was.just to use an OEM software to unlock the phone then do factory restore.
The only solution the so called IT guys adopted was to flash the phone erasing all the vital files and information in the phone without telling the owner.

Meanwhile,The guy told me that he mistakenly locked the phone and it could not boot.He was in dubai then so he went to a repair outlet. He signed in at the outlet.
The guys simply plugged the phone to a device and in less than a minute the phone was unlocked and all factory settings restored without loosing a single file. All personal and phone files were intact. He took his phone, signed out and left.

It was the same thing that happened while in naiJa unfortunately our NaiJa backyard IT guys flash craze comot for d phone head grin grin

Lol please tell me again what's even easy to get....

The same way you're in need and in search of the Job is the same way millions are applying all over the world..

This isn't a Job only Nigerians will be applying but open to different type of nationals also so how do you expect that to be easy you're not applying in your state Civil Service nor as ur country Federal Civil servant....

The amount of people applying for a Remote Job are more than the amount of people applying for Job in ur country....
Re: Why Are Tech Jobs Difficult To Get? by Hemanwel(m): 2:45pm On Feb 18, 2025
Are you kidding me?? Tech jobs difficult to get? The same tech they said is the new goldmine and that people should endeavor to venture into?

What hope is there for those who still want to go into it?
Re: Why Are Tech Jobs Difficult To Get? by SmartyPants(m): 2:45pm On Feb 18, 2025
It is hard because you most likely learned the elementary things and then you want to get a job abroad. Don't you know that everyone in Africa, Asia, South America, and most of Europe wants that remote job you also want? If four candidates from Africa, Asia, South America, and Europe apply for the same remote job and have the same credentials, don't you realize the African is least likely to get it? To get the job, you have to go beyond the bare minimum.

To use OP's data analysis example, being an average data cleaner and dashboard creator is no longer enough. You have to know Python and be good at statistical analysis.

Even at that, the competition is still so tough. The idea that remote jobs will fall into your laps is wrong. It's competitive everywhere.

Who will pay you wen Indians will do a better job for cheaper
Re: Why Are Tech Jobs Difficult To Get? by Focusmind:
Tech is getting to saturation point - it has gotten to saturation point in Nigeria and it is about to become surplus in the western world, except if you possess an exceptionally cognitive ability and skills in the emerging tech world like AI and Precision science and engineering. Even at that, the competition is stiff as those areas doesn't require much human to work in that space. I had to advice someone that completed a program in automation in Canada to move to Practical nursing. I am glad he did and he is completing his 2 - year diploma in Practical nursing and currently have a job in a Youth shelter home as a support worker. While doing his automation program, he never got any job as a student and was becoming frustrated. He still did not get job when he finished the Automation program. If you intend to study abroad, go for programs with job prospects instead of those with beautiful names without any prospect of securing job in a typically white - dominated sector.
