Does Nigeria really have a viable tech sector, or is it just people in tech-inscribed T-shirts with laptops hopping from one remote work hub to the next? I mean, our tech industry is basically a glorified game of "brilliant minds" with Wi-Fi.

When we're actually ready for a real tech industry, we'll be calling on the government to build a proper industrialised environment for real tech companies - think mobile phone manufacturers, satellite companies, robot factories - basically, places with actual addresses, not just free Wi-Fi and coffee.

How can we talk about a tech industry when we still import ordinary POS machines? What is you people's idea of tech? Free WiFi, website design, coding, and crypto? Walai, we are not ready.

As always, we always want to jump the process. How can we talk about modern day tech without proper industrialisation? After learning to code, what next? Look around you, apart from banks, who your coding help? Schools still struggling to pay minimum wage or market women??

The noise about tech got into my head and I quit my 8-5 job. Though the 8-5 job was becoming stressful and toxic, I couldn't cope and had to leave.

I had saved some funds and learned data analytics. Now here is where the issue lies.

I've applied to more than a thousand jobs and I keep getting rejections.

My hope was to get a remote job but I'm not seeing it coming.

Is tech all about noise or it's just saturated?

While learning , we were told a data analyst earns 30k USD annually. I'm just getting tired and frustrated
Having a certification alone will not land you a job. What lands people jobs, especially non entry-level jobs, is the work experience. The certification will only count if you have the requisite related experience in Data Analysis. if your previous job didnt have anything to do with data analytics, then applying for such a job in the hope that your certificate will land you a role is useless, except it is an entry-level role.

My advice, tailor your CV to that of an experienced data analyst, if you have not done so.

Guy. E hard die. Just specialize in AI. Leverage your data analysis to further skill up in data science. ML and DL are key in your growth. Then you'll see jobs swimming your way.

Cc: Tenzasengetsu22, Gerrard59... your inputs here will be useful
are you specialising in AI?

are jobs swimming your way because you used DL and ML?

You are learning the wrong way.

Look for reoccurring vacancies and develop yourself in that line.

After that, present your proposal to these organisation

Also, have a LinkedIn account where your jobs can speak for you. Let your skills announce you
Re: Why Are Tech Jobs Difficult To Get? by obaidan:
The amount of opportunities in tech is exaggerated, especially by entrepreneurs that want to sell their courses to you. A career in tech is very lucrative and cool BUT that does not mean the jobs are available on a Buy-One-Get-One-Free basis if we want to tell ourselves the truth. If you will do tech, go the whole hog and learn it enough that you can use it to build a solution by yourself, if you just want to do the bare minimum to position yourself for jobs, u may find it tough. Tech is not the easy way out the way most people see it, u will put in the work and ur learning will be continuous and u will have to keep evolving.

Also dont forget, the fact that most tech jobs can be done remotely means the experienced and gatekeepers are having a field day taking multiple jobs as much as 3, while new entrants may find it increasingly difficult to land something.

You go wait tire. Government that haven't completed federal roads, look at the national grid, this same government will come and build these things for you dey play. Either you build it yourself or get investors thats how it is everywhere in the world. No body will come and put food down for you especially not the Nigerian government

Not all tech jobs in Nigeria is based on recommendation,

All jucy jobs are on recommendation
In short any employment opportunity in Nigeria is based on recommendation.

Even teaching , security nannyjob

Nigeria is not a country to seek employment without proper networking.

But the truth is,

Almost all tech jobs can be automated now with AI,
The speed with which it's application is increasing begs the question will there be jobs in the nearest future?

I WAS emphasis on was a graphic designer and web developer looking for paid gigs online,
Until I downloaded ChatGPT then realized my skill will become obsolete soon from what chat got could do as at the time,

Today AI is making videos, paintings, websites even cloning and maintenance,

Now who will pay for something that can be done almost free with AI
Obviously you do not understand tech.

You have not worked with tech at an enterprise level.

You are still thinking of using code to develop a calculator solution. It is more and deep than that. So you expect a company like first bank to subject their code to chat gpt. Chat gpt simply make life a bit easier but most codes being churned out require refactoring and understanding of design principles and patterns.

The first step to failing in tech is to go into it for the financials alone. It’s a sure way to failure.

Companies in the US and Europe still recruit the best hands . There’s something lacking in your skill set if you are not getting interviewed.

Tech is an art and you need to learn the fundamentals. I get enough invites all over the world with relocation package that I even choose to ignore

You need to get a job in Nigeria first to gain professional experience before talking about
getting a foreign remote job.

The major challenge is that companies take their customers data privacy seriously and no company would like to expose their customers' data to one guy in another continent to analyze it.

We actually do! Every thing that made me what I am today, I am grateful to Nigeria for existing structures that enabled me able to learn it. It is much much easier to break into Tech in Nigeria than EU / Canada or USA.

In Nigeria we are allowed to make mistakes, change career paths etc. Once you leave Nigeria, It's a tough struggle to survive. You are competing against the World population.

I wasn't going to comment before but I have to.

I am less than Two years in tech and here on this platform I got two juicy jobs..
Whenever I see post vacancy related to what I do...I will drop comments and hype myself with evidence and then the next few days would have my phone ringing..

Be a good marketer of yourself.. besides it's advisable to have more than 1 tech skills..
Learn other small soft skills like video editing, digital marketing etc..

You fell for the market hype of techjobs, especially the likes of data analytics. Many people thinking they can learn enough in 12 weeks to start commanding earnings in the tens of thousands of dollars. Knowledge is one thing, experience is another. Employers and clients, pay for the experience.

As someone who as done some hiring for product development teams, i can tell you that some aspects of the tech jobs, especially the likes of data analytics and ui/ux design are over-saturated. For every one full-stack developer application, I got almost 20 UI?UX or data analysts application. Yet all I need is one, and they are not usually required for a long time, unlike the more technical roles. But even the technical roles are being challenged with the advent of A.I.

In deciding your career path, don't go with the hype. Start with passion and talent. And dont look at what is booming now, but what willl be booming in the next 5-10 years.

Should he lie that he has experience when he doesn't have experience? That is how he will go and embarrass Himself or bungle things when it comes to executing. Why not just apply for internships or entry-level roles to start building experience?
