Yep, we are. The early US was openly corrupt, just like Nigeria. People openly bought votes, scattered elections, and stole money. All that changed over time as the quality of life of their citizens improve. The same thing will happen here eventually. How long it would take is what we don't know.

I don't think the West gives that much of a f* if we are a second world country.
Granted, we're not going to have the same GDP (nominal) per capita as Japan or Spain.
But there's a band between $4,000 and $12,000 where there'd be constant power, exports will be triple/quadruple what they are now, and upper/middle class will be able to buy new cars. That is attainable.
