That is what should be happening all across Africa. In many prisons across the world, prisoners are mined for free labor in exchange for a reduction in sentence, and this is something that ought to be happening the most in Africa. But unfortunately, Africans aren't ready to lift themselves and their nation out of poverty. undecided

Honestly, the prosperity of a nation is not rocket science

I don't understand what our leaders gain by making living difficult for people

Spending time on things that don't matter

Today they were arguing over seats in the Senate

For the umpteenth time, the people... not the criminals they have allowed into power... are the problem. undecided

The solutions to the myriad of problems we are facing is staring us in the eye. Our leaders choose to be intentionally blind to the solutions.

…and I had the initiative of running my retirement farms using prison labour. I’m sure Nigeria does this but it’s all behind closed doors. We have too many prisoners idling away for this to not catch on.

Very good one. The whole of Africa should embrace this. Teach them how to use Agric machinery and mechanize the entire system. With armed security guard always with them, tell me how bandits will attack them in some parts of Nigeria

I remember I made a topic about 8,9yrs ago now

In the topic I said; I have figured the problem of food scarcity in Nigeria and this was the exact solution I preferred.

Criminals, prisoners are idling away in cells, when they can be utilized in farming for free. A simple chain bound or armed personels surrounding the acres will ensure no prisoner escapes and in turn for their hard work, a review on lesser prison sentences.

It's simple as ABC

In Nigeria prisoners are fed what even the devil can't give people in hell fire. I pray God shows all Nigerians mercy in the afterlife except you're a politician or a ritualist.

Nigeria should learn here!

I've always advocated for something like this. We need to replicate this in Nigeria.

Independent control officers should also be sent there to ensure the prisoners are not abused.

What's the term for that kind of justice system?
Re: Burkina Faso Turns Prisoners To Farmers by efembaba(m): 10:01am On Feb 21, 2025
It may not be a popular opinion, but what I believe can catapult this nation from its state of hopeless rotteness is a military takeover which has the genuine interest of the country at heart.

We are too undeveloped and indiciplined for democracy.
Re: Burkina Faso Turns Prisoners To Farmers by givedemwotowoto:
Though this was part of the genesis of slavery and should be moderated, prisoners shouldn’t just stay in prison and “learn their lessons”, they should do work that pays for their time in prison just like everyone else does to sustain their living and freedom.

If you’re wondering about my mention of slavery, some of it started by foreigners buying or leasing condemned prisoners for slave labor until it became a full blown business to the traders

Exactly!

The last time Nnamdi Kanu came to court, he was really looking chubby. His belle and head just dey swell up on top tax payers money.

People like him, Baba Ijebu, Portable and other docked criminals should be made to farm and feed themselves and the nation.

Make them peel cassava and maize during the day and then go for counselling and rehabilitation in the evening.

We have to maximise every opportunity. Infact, initiatives like this go reduce the level of crime in the society.

People like VDM and Sowore won't be itching to go to prison every market day.
Re: Burkina Faso Turns Prisoners To Farmers by englishmart(m): 10:03am On Feb 21, 2025
They should be able to work out their feeding. Feeding criminals is such a bad idea.
Re: Burkina Faso Turns Prisoners To Farmers by Helpfromabove1(m): 10:03am On Feb 21, 2025
This is debatable and it’s should a less prison term

shocked

When you have visionary leadership, development is inevitable. Not what we have in Nigeria, where food prices crashes only on social media by inept govt.
