There is nothing like crushing, because crusjinh will mean that someone actually killed the coup plotters....that never happened....leaders of other regions have been decimated by the coup. The only region left with leaders (politician and military) was the easterners ...there was nothing to crush....the coup plotters were majors (middle officers) they were too junior to become head of state and that obviously will mean that someone superior takes over...leadership first fell on Nwafor Orizu the senate leader who rather than constitute government and probably call for elections in the regions where the premiers were killed and allow for another prime minister to be chosen...he decided to hand power to the military where Ironsi his kinsman was waiting...And Ironsi started by abolishing regional government and creating unitary government (the same mess we have today which has led to clamors for restructuring back to regions)...

He also didn't punish the coup plotters...until the Northern middle and junior officers regrouped and planned a revenge coup in July of the same year that led to the death of Ironsi (and Fajuyi a yoruba man who stuck his neck for Ironsi).. after the coup, Yakubu Gowon took over...he has to be promoted severally to fit in and he wasn't even up to 30....thatbis to tell you what the January 1966 coup plotters did when they killed the likes of Largema, Kur Mohammed, Ralph Sodeinde, Ademulegun etc who were senior officers from other regions...

It was Yakubu Gowon who then released awolowo within 24 hrs of ascending to power...The same Awolowo which they lied was the reason for the January Coup but left in jail for 6 months after the coup they claimed was about him... 😀

You are just confusing yourself. I read Why we struck as a young man over two decades ago in addition to several military books on West Africa as a deep study. I also listened to those in active service at that time and those at the front line. I don't want to go further.

All those imaginary names generated as after thoughts years later are just to soothe nerves. You said coup Flop in Lagos because OiC Armoury did not release key. Do they need to collect key from Armoury to execute Action in Kaduna and Ibadan? What happened at Enugu? That imaginary name was not OiC Armoury or Battalion Commander of the Armour Corps . All the people they planned to execute were executed while those who got the Coup information beforehand escaped.
