FreeStuffsNG:Answer the question was Lagos part of the Western Region of Nigeria? Simple yes, or no, there lies the argument, the core Yoruba region is old Oyo which then accommodated both The Alafin of Oyo, & Oni of Ife in 1 state. Small pikin wey no know anything, your history indeed. Mr Herbert Ogunde reincarnated. |

Christistruth02:Thank You, u just answered the question, if It was the core Yoruba premises, so why was the capital of the western region situated in Ibadan, & not Lagos? Like i corrected u earlier, the core Yorubaland was The old Oyo state, now Osun & Oyo state respectively, & not Lagos State. Mind u there was no local government under the regional system, that was introduced in 1976. |

favor914:Lagos was the Commercial Capital of Yorubaland long before the British Empire arrived in 1851 And Ikeja Lagos still remained the Commercial capital of the Western Region under Awolowo Do you see Apapa the port? 90% of Apapa district was under Awolowo and it was he who built the Industrial Estates surrounding the Port for the Western Region!! Do you think the British Colonial Government that drew this map did not know where Yorubaland was before they included Lagos inside it ? Or do you think Herbert Macauley who was an indigene of Lagos didn’t know where Yorubaland was ? Ebutte Meta in Lagos and Badagry were Oyo Kingdom ports

Christistruth02:Following its early settlement by the Awori nobility, the state first came to the attention of the Portuguese in the 15th century.[15] Portuguese explorer Rui de Sequeira visited the area. in 1472, naming the area around the city Lago de Curamo, which means Lake of Curamo.[16] It's also probable that the city was named after the homonymous coastal town of Lagos, Portugal, in the Algarve region, where sailors and settlers would have departed. The area fell under the domain of Benin in the 16th century.[4] By 1600, it served as a frontier town, and Benin limited its local presence to soldiers led by four military commanders. This military presence as well as the exchange with European traders resulted in economic growth, as locals would travel along the coast and from further inland to Lagos Island for trade;[14] at this point, clothes were the main item sold at and exported from the island as well as Benin as a whole.[21] In the 17th century, the trade with the Portuguese also began to increase, as Onim became a center of the Atlantic slave trade. The local obas (kings) developed good relations with the Portuguese by the early 19th century, it was a small kingdom and a tributary to the Oyo Empire.[22] Like many West African states, Onim developed strong diplomatic as well as economic links to South America. It sent embassies to the Portuguese colony of Brazil,[23] and became one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Brazil in 1823.[22] Meanwhile, the Oyo Empire had begun to collapse. This allowed Lagos to assume the leading economic position regionally, becoming the most important market in the Yoruba territories as well as growing substantially. |

favor914:We know you are Jealous that Lagos is Yorubaland but did you need to announce your Jealousy and hate with your desperation to rewrite History? Apart from the Yoruba Awori being the Owners of Lagos including Lagos Island and Isale Eko itself It has now reached the Stage for people to Start learning the Yoruba moba Pre Oduduwa History of Lagos Which is. Incredibly Massive This is a good opportunity to reteach them including the Epic Yoruba History Do you know there were moba Yoruba people in Lagos long before Oduduwa was born they had their own Kingdom And the moba crown predates Oduduwa's own If we tell them a little of the History of Yoruba Lagos if they have Conscience they will Shut up and beg for Forgiveness There were Yorubas in Lagos long before Oduduwa was born The first Oba of Ilesha (Owa Okokun ) fetched water from the sea at moba to Cure Oduduwa’s Blindness in the 10 th Century moba is around Victoria Island The moba crown Predates Oduduwa’s own it was some of theirPeople that Migrated to Otun Ekiti some are in Ijebu The Moba people were there the Pre Oduduwa Aboriginals of Lagos Part of them are with the Awori , some are at Ijebu and some of them are in Otun Ekiti With the Ore Otun Ekiti who is directly descended from the Moba, Lagos Kings The 9th Century 160km eredo wall near Ijebu and covering both Ogun and Lagos States was part of their Kingdom that reached the Sea and Many Islands off the Coast of Lagos most of the time they are Categorised with the Awori but though they are now part of the Awori they were in Lagos Centuries Earlier it was the Pre Oduduwa moba King called Seniade who idol Worshippers deified as Olokun Oore of Otun Ekiti is one of his direct descendants. The Island he ruled from off the Coast of Lagos has now been submerged by the sea And that was why his people moved to moba If you see Ancient Yoruba Artifacts in South Africa from before Oduduwa was born Just know that it was moba People who took it there . They ruled over a String of Islands and were experts in Travelling between Islands in the Atlantic Ocean Can you see that if you think the History of Lagos Started with Oduduwa in the 10th Century you have not yet began Sungbo eredo wall the unesco world heritage candidate site was built by the Yoruba moba Pre Oduduwa People whose Kingdom reached the Islands off the Coast of Lagos Yoruba History is a God Given Epic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZM5oqM_7h54?si=0Bc8RLg6xl7sq77w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8J7SXJzGuLM?si=r9vlK6L3Z4NEXAEn Benin was founded by an Obatala dynasty Ile Ife Prince called Obagodo who also became the first Ogiso of Benin. That was why when things went belly up in Benin, it was to Ile Ife they returned for a King. Obagodo is Yoruba for Oba Igodo. I Please go and look after your own History and leave our Yoruba History alone!! |

Goodvibes007:Don't mind him jare. I don't know why people like placing Igbos and Yorubas together as if we are cousins. We don't even share borders. Any small discussion about Yorubas, somehow, the word "Igbo" would somehow find its way into the conversation. So annoying. |

Goodvibes007:Main article: History of Lagos Early history edit Before the Portuguese name of Lagos had been adopted, Lagos' initial name was Eko which referred mainly to the Island. The first to settle in Eko were the Aworis. Trade later drew various groups to the island, including the Portuguese in the 16th century. [33][34] The Awori hunters and fishermen had originally come from Ile-Ife to the coast.[35][36] |

Eat Amala and ewedu and share my culture. Nigeria is just a geographical entity created by the British to serve their own interest. That's why cohesion is not strong. Part of my schooling was in Britain and my Hausas friend from Kano is best friends with other Hausas guy from Niger Republic. They all speak Hausa and have the same food and culture. The Igbos move with each other. Same as the Yorubas as well. What does that tell you? |
