He approves blessings is not the same as endorsing gay marriage. The church documents can't be overridden by him and it is clearly spelt out that the church cannot approve gay marriage. The good thing is that many other within the church leadership opposed him and prevailed on this.
He however has a point that we should frown at sins but be sympathetic to the sinner who seek solace in God's house, afterall we are all sinners in need of God's mercy.

When "men of God" get sick,they still rely on medical science for recovery. When the world faces an epidemic, whether HIV or covid or Ebola etc it is science that provides a solution.
