The same cheap Russian energy that the US forced Europe to get rid of, is what they're now going behind Europe's back to buy. They told Europe to "reduce dependence" on Russian oil and gas. Europe foolishly obliged and ended up buying them from the US at 5 times the normal price. Trump has repeatedly said they don't need anything from Canada. Canada sells oil and gas to the US, amongst other things.... but they're quite expensive. Now the US wants to resume business with Russia again.
