If one has just personal fundings without an assistantship which covers the stipulated i-20 amount.

Is this enough to apply for the visa with?

Also, what is typically referred to as a 'deficit'?

Your proof of fund needs to cover all your cost including living expenses, else, the VO will deny your visa.

Deficit = your remaining payable balance after your sholarship amount, GA, TA, RA, etc has been deducted from your cost of attendance (COA).

Example your COA is 50,000 and you get a scholarship, TA,RA,GA of 30,000

Your Deficit is 20,000

You to use the evaluation type your school required, like mine requested for WES

If you have personal funds it should cover the required amount, as well as proof of income that's how you earn.
Deficit is debt (balance) example if your tuition is 50k and you have partial funding, of 35k, the deficit there is 15k which is the money you need to complete your tuition fee, the consula will ask you about it.

As at last two weeks, if you pay with transfer, you should get a confirmation in like 24 hours.

Your request would be moved to pre-approval

For Abuja, it takes about 24 to 48hrs or a week
For Lagos, till infinity and beyond 😂

I actually expected this to take quite long but I was surprised.

Paid visa fees Feb 19th
Moved to Pre-approval on 20th
Scaled Pre-approval on 21st

After scaling pre-approval, you’d be able to select between Abuja and Lagos again. After selecting either, you would see available dates for the selected consulate.


PS : My DS-160 Consulate was Lagos.

I chose the august date in Abuja so I requested for emergency date since my i20 resumption date is may. I wrote a letter to them and waited for three days, behold April 3rd was given

My passport is due for expiration by march next year and I am expected to start my contract by August. I contacted someone in the immigration service and I was told that I can’t renew my passport above 6 months of expiration. By July I will be having less than seven months of validity of my passport. Is it advisable to use this passport for my visa.

Any NACE member. FIS, an OLD evaluation organization is good and affordable. Adding $50 to the Document by Document gives a more thorough evaluation. They can keep your documents for 5 yrs for you and if you need to send to another organization next time, you may just add $30 extra unless if they want a Modified Document By Document. Several advantages with them.

The charge is very okay, i paid a total of N617,662 for $350 @ dollar rate of 1625
Charges was 48,912 which is very fair. They are your best bet. I waited 5 days and i got my payment receipt.

I am asking for the amount because I am seeing different prices here after creating the account.

Also, did you give school your Wes login for them to process it or who?

If you have done yours, please respond, I have just less than 1 month and it’s only this transcript evaluation is holding me

I recently did WES. My school sent my transcript electronically to Wes, Jan 20... Wes completed my evaluation Feb 13... It was $246 (about 395k)

You need to work on your answers, this is a better way to respond and show confidence just from your old transcript.

VO: where are you going to?
You: I am going to XYZ university in Ohio for my bachelors degree in computer engineering.

(This has cut out 3 questions from your old transcript)

VO: who is sponsoring you?
You: My elder brother, he runs a multi subsidiary company which deals with the sales of Real estates and automobiles with a staff strength of 30 and currently generates 18M per month and over 200M per year

(Again, you have cut off 4 questions from above and have shown confidence)

VO: where do you work?
You: I work at my brothers company (xyz limited) as the assistant director in the automobile section and I earn 100,000 per month.
(Again, you have cut out 3 questions and shown you you know what you're doing)

VO: Have your brother been to the US before?
You: NO, but he has been to multiple other countries like the United kingdom, UAE, a frequent traveller to China on business trips, and multiple other African countries. He has also sponsored my elder sister for her elder sister for her masters degree in the United kingdom and she is back to Nigeria now and works with XYZ as ABC.

(Here you have demonstrated your brother is well grounded, well travelled, has a level of responsibility, and is capable of footing your bills).


These are just mistakes I can point out from your previous transcript, what you need to do differently this time also depends on what has changed in your application because the VO will ask what has changed since the last time.
Maybe have a story like, I wrote XYZ exam which enabled me get additional funding from my school and now I earn better at my position blah blah blah.

Still yet to get an appointment date since January when i paid the MRV fees and passed the pre-approval stage. It still says no dates available for neither Abuja or Lagos.

Could this be because i got denied in December and I am trying again?

You: My elder brother will be sponsoring me, and has deposited an equivalent amount of $$$ into my bank account toward my tuition. This amount is available immediately; it also covers my accommodation, medical, and other sundry expenses.

Let the VO ask about the sources of income of your sponsor; only then can you explain as you stated, but ensure you have evidence of whatever you claim he does.
