Sir: If a 20-year-old student researcher had found, after methodical research, that the 1966 so-called Igbo coup was not an Igbo coup after all, that 20-year-old researcher would have been celebrated as an instant national hero. But when Ibrahim Babangida, an 83-year-old insider and eye witness to that 1966 event, makes similar declaration, he should not be viewed as a hero and truth teller; instead, the question should be asked: when did Babangida become aware of that piece of truth?https://thenationonlineng.net/babangida-and-his-1966-non-igbo-coup-epiphany/ |

Gowon OBJ Buhari T Y Danjuma They should all write their book though I think OBJ has Danjuma is also a multiple coup plotter and a top insider of 1966 counter coup Death has given them long life to correct their deceitful utterances of the past I bet they'd be praying to die as they're already wearing pampers and shitting in it like toddlers But death would be unmerciful and keep blessing them with long life until they speak the truth and stop doing the Nation a disservice. The country has got to heal from trauma |

Nice one. Since we've all established that it was NOT an Igbo coup, Let us all move on. I don't expect Nairaland resident zombies to accept this truth though, Their concern though, foolish lot. |

This expose is a good one and not to be debated. The next thing now is, what should Nigeria do with this truth? Why exactly are Igbos marginalized? |

Killerofpigs:The zombies you're mentioning are like Talibans (Mujahedeen), They don't have a thought process, They've been programmed to believe one thing to the end of their lives. "Zombies" for a reason. |

The Northerners are ready to accept the correction, but most Southwesterners seem to profit from the hoax and, hence, want to die on top of the matter. The only progressive agenda that goes on the floor of the Lagos State House of Assembly is "how to keep Igbos in check". This is the only major agenda that arouses the majority of the Yorubas not minding the makeup of their constituencies |

Babangida is a soldier, not a story teller. What if he chooses not to write his own autobiography? What marginalization did igbos suffer? I did not know much about the war but from the gleanings of patches of history, igbos themselves were not absolutely innocent. When advised not to take the course of war, Ojukwu rejected the offer. That aside, the way igbos presents themselves in the political scene show people that are not serious. Thank God for Obi, a situation leader of the last election. In my little life of a few decades, Obi is the only one who decided not to play a second fiddle. You can abuse Tinubu and. Insult him, he believes, we own this country together and placed a demand on his right. MKO died defending his mandate. Igbo's will whine, cry, and wail and go back to their cocoons, killing themselves. Even, if the coup was an Igbo coup for a just cause, so what? They should see it a part of their struggle rather than trading blame and being sentimental. Igbo's should wake up and give expression to their agitation in a meaningful way. |

Do not confuse people. That was NOT an editorial or opinion of TheNation. It was a private opinion written to and published in TheNation by one Dr. Vitus Ozoke in United States. And from his name, you can guess his allegiance.

If a 20- year old researcher had made the revelation, would have taken it seriously the way you took IBB's verdict seriously. Na today we begin dey write say that coup no be Ibo coup? Dig through Nairaland, you will see threads as far as back 2013 debunking that Igbo coup lies. With our Yoruba antagonists of facts of those days like dayokanu, Ileke Idi, Desola and co. trying to maintain the lies that it was an Ibo coup. These where the same people on NL who promoted the lies that Ojukwu 'dressed like a woman' to enter a plane that took to Ivory Coast. A plane that was parked in the backyard of his bunker? They derived that lie from the case of Alameseigha who escaped from London prison dressed like a woman. I know Nigeria like the back of my hand. |

All he said about the 1966 coup is what was already known by many but the negative National narrative was preferred and promoted as it served the cause of the North |

Babangida should be commended for coming out boldly against the general beliefs and accepted norms to speak the truth to power. There are other satanic lies that they nation is still standing on like the lies that igbos fought the civil war to seize Niger delta oil fields. That igbos declared war on Nigeria. That igbos caused the #EndSARS riots to destroy Lagos, that a certain chinasa tried to burn down Lagos BRT. The lopsided census that has places igbosas rhe 3rd largest ethnic group in Nigeria, |

Ebubu:Nobody from your generation or lineage can live the kind of fulfilled life these men have lived . The evil that men do, will continue to live after them! God supported the civil war! The wickedness of zik naiveness of aguyin ironsi and the greediness of ojukwu nearly bought the extinction of the ibos! I strongly believed the IBOS NEEDS TO APOLOGISE TO THE NORTHERNERS AND THE YORUBAS for the evil they perpetrated! |

The Great Igbo tribe has been vindicated yet again. At this point, the president should tender a public apology to the Igbos for being accused wrongly of the 1966 coup which turned out to be Obafemi awolowo coup. |

OkCornel:Ok How many of them were killed in the Coup Was it equal to that 60% of middle ranking Army officers.? What was the percentage of Military Officers of other parts of the country killed? Did it correspond proportionally to that percentage ? List the names of those killed and the names of the Soldiers who killed them so we can analyse the list |

Christistruth02:You are not disputing the Igbos were over 60% of the middle ranked officers prior to the January coup. By the way, Awolowo’s political opponents were eliminated in the coup which is quite interesting if I must say. Sardauna ☠️ Akintola ☠️ Tafawa Balewa ☠️ Quite a coincidence |

OkCornel:Don’t digress , Of those 60% of Middle Ranking Military Officers fwhat was the percentage of them killed? Now as to Awolowo’s case Those who conspired against Awolowo and jailed him turned against themselves last last. If they were Awolowo friends how come they jailed him? Also how exactly were Ademulegun, his pregnant wife, and Col Shodeinde Awolowo’s enemies and how come they left out Azikiwe if they were killing Awolowo’s enemies? |
