Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, have arrested two suspected members of a tricycle-snatching syndicate notorious for dispossessing operators and passengers of their belongings. The state NSCDC commandant, Olatunde Maku, confirmed the arrest at the command’s headquarters in Awka on Wednesday, stating that the suspects were apprehended on Tuesday after allegedly snatching a tricycle at Araba Umuzocha, Awka. “At about 9 am on Tuesday, acting on a tip-off, operatives of the command intercepted a three-man gang operating along Araba Umuzocha and its environs. “Nemesis caught up with them after they forcefully snatched a tricycle, popularly known as Keke NAPEP, from a victim near Regina Junction by Zik’s Avenue, Awka. Two of the suspects were arrested while one managed to escape and is currently at large,” Maku said. The arrested suspects were identified as Obum Charles, 24, of No. 4 Umueze Road, Amudo Village, Awka, and Chukwunonso Ekeh, 27, of No. 36 Onueyiagu Street, Amachala, Awka. Maku disclosed that the duo is assisting the command with information that could lead to the arrest of their fleeing accomplice, adding that investigations were ongoing and the suspects would be prosecuted upon completion. “Preliminary findings indicate that the gang specialises in snatching tricycles while robbing riders and passengers of their valuables,” he added.
