At some point, we may just need to leave the past and live in the present and consider the future. The best thing about the past is a source of reference to learn from. And that’s what the civil war should be, something to learn from. If we are to really move on for progress, it may be time to stop shifting blames… Let’s remember, first we are humans, we are Africans and we really need to unite as a people in order to move forward and be in position to shake the world. When slave masters and evil colonizers claim, they didn’t care, they invaded all lands from east to west to north and with one agenda… Yet the most evil people in history who committed the most inhumane thing against humanity, through slavery, colonization and genocide and even spread diseases. They have moved one and forgiven themselves No one is still blaming Germany for starting world war… now Germany, uk, France, USA are best of allies now Japan and US are allies today… And when it was time to colonize Africa , they all sat down and united to invade our lands….(we are still suffering the pain today.) And come to think of it, no one wants to be the villain of their own world, continually calling the civil war an “igbo coup” won’t make anything better other than worsen things… The people who fought the war, all the people involved both children and old will be no more in few years time… most are even gone already The first step to forgiveness and progress may just to let it go…. But but but but!!!! In the name of letting go, it will only happen if the igbos themselves let go… it won’t be a time to start looking for a new way to shift blames… it will lead to more resistance and clap backs |

The 1966 coup is like saying 2022/23 Obidient movement is not an Igbo movement simply because there are a pockets of other tribes in the movement. You can imagine how it all turned out, for example Lagos which Obi came first. The chest beating of Igbos in mockery of even the Yorubas who stood side by side to vote Peter Obi. Which ever perspective anyone may want to look at it. The 1966 coup was an Igbo coup. The only reason why Igbos don't want to associate themselves with the 1966 coup is because of how it ended up as an humiliation. |

Softmirror:Unfortunately for you Babangida's opinion on this issue carries way more weight than yours. All the major actors from Ademoyega to Awolowo himself, have all confirmed that the major beneficiary of that coup was Awolowo, thus making it a Yoruba coup. CASE CLOSED |

Softmirror:Was 2015 Sai Buhari movement a Fulani movement? A lot of northerners have been grandstanding and referring to themselves as kingmakers since the 2015 elections Even Tinubu bragged about making Buhari president |
| Re: Igbo Coup: My Perspective by Softmirror: 10:18pm On Feb 25, 2025 |
Ojuntana:There was nothing like sai Buhari movement. Nothing of such. |

| Re: Igbo Coup: My Perspective by ajailer(m): 10:34pm On Feb 25, 2025 |
1966 coup was an Igbo coup, cry, shout, write many articles to the contrary as much as you want but the fact still remains that it was an Igbo coup. |

OfoIgbo:This thread is not for unintelligent people like yourself… I don’t regret and will never regret being a pain to daft people of your caliber. Yours is to come and insult my tribe and think you go scott free, lai lai… For people like you, it’s about counting scores and never learn… and for beerpalour champions of your caliber, it will forever remain an Igbo coup… Anyway, I know some intelligent ones will understand my point… And again, nothing concern me with IBB book, it’s just my personal reflection. IBB remains a liar, maradona! |

Softmirror:I get your point, I’m just looking at the big big bigger picture of things… We Dey suffer for Africa oo, and it will take an evolved generation with evolved minds to focus on building a united Africa to take their glory in the world.. See Germany for instance, same people that started world war, the most destructive war mankind has ever seen. Yet nobody call it a German war… the only person oyinbo now blame is Hitler… rather than say Germans, they will say Hitler and nazis… Same with Japan, Japan and US are allies and enjoying development |
| Re: Igbo Coup: My Perspective by Softmirror: 9:27am On Feb 26, 2025 |
Omoawoke:Whenever the word Nazi is mentioned everyone knows it refers to the Germans, in like sheds when you say Biafra we all know those it is referred to. It is rightly called a world war and couldn't have been called a German war because it had many phases to it and wasn't all about the Germans or Adolf Hitler. |

The fact that the January 1966 coup is the only coup being discussed today out of 8 coups that happened in Nigeria, because Igbos were involved, should be a great indicator to all Igbos that Nigeria is not their future country Babangida wrote a book that spanned a period of four decades, and several important events. But the only discussion for most people is one particular day, January 15th 1966 To my fellow Igbos, if this does not show that you don't belong to Nigeria, nothing will |
| Re: Igbo Coup: My Perspective by Omoawoke(op): 12:52pm On Feb 26, 2025 |
gidgiddy:It’s the only one that led to civil war So that’s why it stands out Be fair in your analysis |
| Re: Igbo Coup: My Perspective by gidgiddy: 3:05pm On Feb 26, 2025*. Modified: 4:19pm On Feb 26, 2025 |
Omoawoke:The civil war did not start until 18 months later, the coup is not what led to civil war The coup only stands out because Igbo's were involved. Had the coup been done by Northerners, nobody would be talking about it today, like nobody talks about the 7 other coups that happened in Nigeria |
| Re: Igbo Coup: My Perspective by Counterigbolies: 3:09pm On Feb 26, 2025 |
OfoIgbo:but ibb in the same book made it clear it was originally ethnically motivated n he even made it clear that Igbo people were mocking northerners in the north It's like u Igbos only read a page in that book

| Re: Igbo Coup: My Perspective by Counterigbolies: 3:18pm On Feb 26, 2025 |
gidgiddy:reprisal happened because the Igbos were mocking the northerners The ibb that is now your hero made it clear n an Igbo artist even sang a song titled "goat is crying" to mock d northerners

| Re: Igbo Coup: My Perspective by ElSudani: 3:25pm On Feb 26, 2025*. Modified: 3:26pm On Feb 27, 2025 |
gidgiddy:The fact that only Ibos celebrated the coup by taunting Northerners is for me an eye opener as to where a lot of Ibos stood regarding the coup. I wish Babangida could have elaborated on this because the taunting was so biting that it led to the second coup and progrom against Ibos in the North. |
| Re: Igbo Coup: My Perspective by OfoIgbo: 3:32pm On Feb 26, 2025 |
Counterigbolies:Ademoyega, Awolowo, Gbulie and lately Babangida have already revealed that the major beneficiary of that coup was Awolowo. To this end, all of Awolowo's political opponents were massacred. Awolowo, who was a sitting duck in jail was spared. What am I doing with the gossips of military wives? The two highest ranking military people associated with that coup were Yorubas namely Fajuyi and Banjo. They outranked the foot soldiers that carried out Awolowo's coup. Fajuyi trained all the coupists, so they obviously carried out Fajuyi's orders on the D - day |

Black man... especially of the stock of particular Nigerians...doomed to remain hopeless and frustrated and dull forever. Just imagine babangida, who is from the same north as the likes of the late Tafawa Balewa and Ahmadu Bello-two high casualty figures of the 1966 putsch, said in his book that the coup ain't Igbo coup. He, being a northerner would've said otherwise and everyone would've understood, but he chose the side of honour. But these yoruba people keep crying everyday, they keep lamenting everyday and the whole country is fed up with you people!!!! |

OfoIgbo: ![]() I feel your anguish. Facts are unfortunately too stubborn. Generations unborn will know what ibo officers did in January 1966. How they went 🗡 daggers in hand in the middle of the night to murder people in their beds. |
| Re: Igbo Coup: My Perspective by gidgiddy: 3:43pm On Feb 26, 2025 |
ElSudani:Igbos taunting Northerners was one of the stories they used in turning the coup into 'Igbo coup'. In reality, it never happened |
| Re: Igbo Coup: My Perspective by ElSudani: 3:48pm On Feb 26, 2025 |
gidgiddy:It actually happened. This is why I disagree with some of you. Trying so hard to rewrite the history of something which happened not so long ago. There are millions of Nigerians living right now and able to give you their first hand experience of what happened. It is futile and laughable to try and distort what is known to millions. |

Omoawoke:1966 coup is as follows: Ifeajuna led the Lagos faction that went to Tafawa Balewa’s residence…. He is Igbo Nzeogwu led the Northern faction in Kaduna…. He is Igbo Nwobosi led the faction that went to Ibadan and killed Aare Akintola…. He is Igbo Timothy Onwatwegu led the faction that went to Ademulegun’s house and killed him and his pregnant wife. He is Igbo. Timothy Onwatwegu led the faction that went to Ralph Sodeinde’s house in Kaduna…. He is Igbo. Ezedigbo led the faction that went to Okotie- Eboh’s house…. He is Igbo Chris Anuforo led the faction that went to Col Kur Mohammed’s house…. He is Igbo Donatus Okafor led the faction that went to Maimalari’s house. He is Igbo. Lt Oguchi was sent to the East to kill Okpara…. He spared his life…. He was Igbo. Everyone who died in the January 1966 coup was killed by Igbos. Nobody from another tribe pulled a trigger that killed anyone in the January 1966 coup. To imagine that the January 1966 coup was not an Igbo agenda is an insult on the memory of the innocent victims that were brutally killed for no just cause. Stop the Gaslighting ! THE NORTH PLANNED A COUNTER COUP IN JULY 66 AS A REVENGE AFTER THEY REALISED IT WAS AN IGBO AGENDA THE NORTH COUP WAS WIDELY KNOWN AS “ NORTHERN COUP “ why ? Because most of the soldiers that carried out the coup were of Northern origin . We dont see them crying about it . They own it !! Stop the victim crying already and stop disrespecting Dead because you are too weak to take responsibility for your actions .. 🪬🪬🪬 I have a question for you why is it that yorubas |
