It's not the job of NAFDAC to seize USAID donated drugs from traders who probably bought them from the NGOs. NAFDAC should only make sure that those drugs have not expired. The traders bought the drugs from the NGOs, so it is their property.
If you buy illegal guns from police...

Is the stolen gun yours if law catch up with you?

Are they suppose to buy drugs from NGO, it's similar to buying stolen goods. Both the sellers and buyers should be punshed.

Most of the USAID drugs were badly stored and suspected of degradation, others expired and repackaged.

Meen! People are evil in this country o.. Imagine people living with HIV taking expired ARVs unknowingly. Haba! All to make money o... Africans are indeed mean to themselves without the white man doing so to them.

"USAID and UNFPA-donated antiretroviral drugs and condoms meant to support Nigeria’s HIV/AIDS response were found expired and repackaged for sale."

The work of cleaning up expired and banned drugs from our markets is a nice job, which will save a lot of precious lives however,it must be done without any ulterior motive. For instance,Onitsha has the biggest open drug market in Africa,Aba equally is about the second or there about,so what the heck is the woman saying, that once they are done with the clean up,that each zone of the country will have just one of such approved open drug market. So the intention is to either close down that of Onitsha or Aba?I need a clearer explanation?
Meanwhile they should hurry up and open the market because there are a whole lots genuine businessmen there, inspite of the criminal minded ones whom I suggest should be prosecuted.

Life savings retroviral drugs given free of charge diverted and sold for selfish individual aggrandisement.

How wicked and heartless can some people be. Selling expired drugs to people. What if your relative takes it and dies

People get away with this because of slap of the wrist treatment they get.

If the are treated like murderers and armed robbers , paraded and locked up in overcrowded prisons, it would serve as a deterrent to others eyeing the notorious path
They don't care about all that. All they care about is money money money

She affirmed that the operation uncovered shocking violations of drug storage and distribution regulations, including diverted donated medical supplies, large quantities of USAID and UNFPA-donated antiretroviral drugs and condoms meant to support Nigeria’s HIV/AIDS response were found expired and repackaged for sale.

These life-saving medications, she added, were either improperly stored or deliberately resold for profit, undermining global efforts to combat HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.

While the integrity and legality of some of the products were not in question, the storage environment was harsh and could denature the products, she explained.

“Some of the products (seized) are large quantities of donated antiretroviral drugs, expired female, and male condoms by USAID, UNFPA.
Is it too much to just read what was posted well?? They were seized because they re expired or likely to be chemically altered due to unsafe storage conditions!

And, in any case, receiving stolen goods is a crime!

Guns should not be compared to consumables. Donated books, Bibles, clothes, and food items, that should have been distributed freely, unfortunately are being sold by traders who bought them from corrupt public officials and NGOs.

Be sensible when applying logic and reasoning. sad

Lol

Boss calm down.

Clearly on most of Donor Item, you will see the Caveat " Not for Sale"

So, surely the Traders are culpable along with the Government/Agency Official that stole and sold them.

Plus receiving stolen items is a CRIME.

Madam u r making too much noise which is what we always observe when a Yoruba is right even by an inch. That is y I m beginning to think that this operation has a tribal colouration to it. These products came from a govt health office, there was no report of breaking n entry by the health offices to d police but products that r supposed to be free r found in the open market. Who sold it to them. Those r the people the Nafdac DG should go after on this part of the operation n not come online making noise n making it look like the traders stole the products find out those in ur govt health offices who r selling these medicines to them. Too much unnecessary noise il not do d job

How do I begin to educate you? I am going to paint a simple picture, and hope you get my point. Are you aware that the people who interface with these international donor agencies are professionals running established NGOs? These NGOs are mostly perfect fronts to enable them receive material donations like books, clothes, drugs, farm equipment, medical equipment and more.

These so called professionals usually have their own private pharmacies and warehouses where they move these free supplies to. While in custody of these supplies, they delabel them, tamper with the expiry dates, slightly rebrand and advertise these products for sale. Normally, an everyday trader goes about sourcing for products all the time, especially authentic and marketable products. Now this is how these traders come into the picture.

The traders are at the bottom of the distribution chain. It is not their responsibility to know the origin of a product. A typical trader focuses on authenticity, marketability and profitability. We are talking about consumables here, not weapons.
