aribisala0:History and search for historical truth and facts are scholarly activities. If you're so steeped in tribal and sectional bias, this task maybe impossible for you. Nigeria experienced her 1st coup among naive younger officers, the older officers somehow put it down, and the highest military officer at the time took power reluctantly, and was working on returning the regime to the civilians, and here you are fixated on a silly question about why and how Ironsi became head of state at the time---unless it was an Igbo coup. Witness and evidence have shown that it was not an Igbo coup, but had Igbo officers among the participants, but you are buried in your 50 year old false narrative that it's Igbo coup. That's the only reason why Gowon allowed wholesome murder of Igbos all over Nigeria. If it was an Igbo coup, maybe the blood thirsty vampires would have stopped the killings after they wiped off most Igbo military officers and Ironsi himself, no, they continued killing children, women and old people. |

simply22:Babangida never said it is not an Ibo coup That is a blatant lie He said the opposite that IT WAS AN IBO COUP UNMISTAKABLE was the word he used It was an unmistakable Ibo coup First there were assassinations Then Ironsi too over Why did Ironsi have to take over? He claimed to have thwarted the coup So why not let the civilians continue in power Ironsi taking over was the culmination of the coup The Ibo coup His failure to prosecute any one was the confirmation UNMISTAKABLE IBO COUP - IBB 2025 |

eagleu:Took power reluctantly ? On what authority? The fact that people had been killed was no justification for that There were surviving members of parliament YOU are the one that needs to research HOW A PARLIAMENTARY SYSTEM WORKS There was no basis for Ironsi to take power It was not reluctant Who begged him Which Fulani or Yoruba man begged him What Ironsi did was the REAL COUP The Ibo coup He did not prosecute anyone He did not prosecute anyone He did not prosecute anyone He did not prosecute anyone |

DenreleDave:The sad thing is IBB was among the officers that played the return match in July 1966 and mowed down Ndigbo officers, who northern officers claimed celebrated, not took part ó, the January coup. Torturing them to death, pulling the ones that participated in the coup out of prison to bury alive. That is the person that is Ndigbo's hero, can you imagine? |

Eriokanmi:your epistle is very wrong ...Awo did not turn around anyone,he never had any agreement with The coup plotters ..if their intention was to put him as the head of state why didn't they announce it when they struck?why didn't Irosin release him,it was Gowon that released him years after ,you said he stopped food to the east of well why are the Biafran soldiers well fed and the populace who the food was meant for malnourished?so you mean the Nigerian government should have Kept on supplying food to the east meant for civilians and been hijacked by the Biafran soliders ,..make una continue to dey lie to una self..the author of this piece failed to quote the part of IBB book that said Ironsi not punishing the coup plotter and igbos mocking Northerners calling them cowards was the major reason for the counter coup . |

aribisala0:don't even mind them..the funny part was that the next in line in the civilians circle was an Igbo man...Orizu.. president of the parliament cos I don't recall Nigeria having a deputy prime minister then . |

Antivirus92:I don't understand your point at alllll, there's no flow of expression, the whole thing lacks clarity and logic. I said IBB may have lied (an obvious possibility), how does that translate to a categorical claim that he did? "If he had written that ojukwu caused the war, you would have been praising him to the high heavens."...... How does this relate to anything I said now? ![]() |

Until they compensate Igbos by handing the mantle of leadership of Nigeria to us, they would continue implicating themselves. A group of people that are determined to improve the well being of the country have been sidelined all these while for an unjust agreement and u think God is not watching? |

aribisala0:You can throw up, urinate, ejaculate, or undergo any of the sympathetic/ parasympathetic reflexes as you can, but despite all that, no thoughtful person would agree that it was an Igbo coup, even participating officers like IBB, Ademoyega have all said it wasn't. But, you, at your street corner beer parlor insist that it was. Ok, let's say ALL the killers were Igbos, does it justify the organized killing of more than 3 million Igbos even after Ironsi and almost every Igbo officer had been killed? |

Racoon:Ojukwu himself had at least 6 Officers Senior to him in the East why didn’t he step down for one of them the most Senior of which was Col Wellington Bassey of Calabar Who was also completely Anti-War and could have avoided the war completely |

The reality of the issues with Boko Haram makes one to realise that with the best will in the world nobody can flip a switch and make a good or bad revolution go away so we all need to cultivate habits that foster love and unity with our neighbours because push come to sholve what did you reasonably expect Gowon to do after una unleash mayhem by killing their leaders and sparring your own. I know una get every reason under the sun why it turned out like that but nobody had the gumption to know what the perception of this by the people would be. Racoon: |

Okpokpo09:Okpokpo09, Cursed shall you and your generation be in the city, and cursed shall you and your general be in the country. May evil never depart you and your generation forever. This is my sincere prayer. Enu re ti Kan! Find below the atrocities committed by Igbo soldiers during the first coup which made it Igbo coup: Nzeogu killed Sardauna and his wife Ifeajuna killed Balewa.Ifejuana not only shot Balewa after allowing him to pray but he also mutilated his body and left it to rot in the bush by the roadside. Nwobosi killed Akintola and got Fani Kayode arrested. Anuforo killed Maimalari Major Okafor killed Festus Okotie Eboh IBB wrote in his book: "It was heinously callous for Nzeogwu to have murdered Sir Ahmadu Bello and his wife, Hafsatu, because not only were they eminently adored by many but also because they were said not to have put up a fight”. Igbos are hypocrites! Yes, Igbos are hypocrites! |
