Hello all, my monthly salary is N552,000+/- after tax but I kid you not, I'm always broke few days after receiving it.

That is why I'm asking if people still achieve so much with such amount.

Abi na me no sabi use money well?
It's clear you are a reckless spender, you live way beyond your income, you live like a man that has arrived, you live like a King.

If you can be honest enough to share your monthly expenses, then you will see how correct I am with my description about how you live and spend money.

To Bring this type of topic here what do you expect from people living below 50k in a month?

They will see it as big money. Whereas if you asked people receiving 5m a month they will see it as small money. Life is by class. You might be eating from restaurant of not less than 5k for a plate. Pay band a electricity and other bills from nice neighborhoods while the people you are asking lives in ghettos.

To cook stew will eat nothing less than 30-40k in today’ Nigeria. But some people are still cooking stew with 4k believe it or not. Life na stage.

To bring this type of questions here means you want to switch place.

For real the money is small.
Fuel a day 15-20k if you drive everyday that money cannot reach one month. Car expenses, feeding, bills and other expenses. 500k na small money. Who nor go nor know

what if you work in lekki , do you have to leave inside ikorodu just to save up and build , some even own a house in those remote area but do you know how hard it is to commute to lekki everyday from remote area
AirBere:
You pay 200k monthly for rent? That's about 2.4 per year. Why not save up and build your own home.

5k cedis is actually 5000x1000= 5,000,000 cedis.
So, are you proud that 5million cedis is equivalent to 500k naira?

That was the plan with the savings. I have some plots of land I bought when things were good but do you know how much to build even bungalow is now?

And the areas I bought are far and yet to fully develop, if I’m to live there my family’s safety might be an issue and also fuel to work will probably double. My rent was 1.5/year before Tinubu.

I journal what I spend daily, even to the minutest N50 spent. I think you should so that you will know where money is going; then you can make adjustments and cut down your spending and erase certain things. N500K is still big money despite the devaluation of our currency. Find out what is taking the money from you. Also, you do not mention whether you have a family and what size.

Yeah, 500k is still a big money in Nigeria.

Many Nigerians do not earn 500k per month.

The fact is that inflation is affecting your money.

Try to cut your coat according to your size.
Meaning a lot more people have been thrown into poverty. Nigeria, chai! May God help his people.

Things are generally expensive. Thrice as expensive than it was before.
If you own a car and a family with 2 kids, it's possible you exhaust 500k in a week.

Majority of funds end on fuel for car and kids wellbeing. The best thing you can do is draft a way you always end on 100,000 you wouldn't touch.

Only those not earning up to that will say you are wasteful.

I get that much monthly but I am also broke. I don't even womanize, keep friends, go clubbing or drink yet I am always broke.

So since last year I device a means to force me to save by all means.

I don start ajor, so once the money comes 60% goes into ajor by force. I having been surviving on 40% of my income and how I adjusted to it is what surprises me.

You take on the subject is apt. Life is in stages,
If you pay someone paying rent in badagry, ogijo, sagamu, 500k monthly , he might be elated and overwhelmed with joy, that can't be the case of someone paying rent in magodo, yaba or gbagada.
(Lekki, V/island n ikoyi is in a different class).
For a lot of Nigerians, the inflation and hyper inflation happened so fast that most were caught off guard and thier finances in disarray.
Nigeria has no social benefit and little government support in aspect of health, education, transportation, food etc. hence you spend thrice or more what you are used to spending to meet up with the lifestyles of 5-7 years ago.
what the 500k earner is going through is phase of
"Maintaining status quo at the barest" until he realises he is now poor and adjust immediately, he will just be struggling even with his 500k.

You're on point... Last month I got my leave allowance and salary combined to total of almost 600k after tax.... Na small change remain now, even with the fact that I've sold off my car and dumped my gen, hence zero fuel cost. Naira na tissue paper abeg.

Is not big my brother, once you remove 10k from that money, it is gone....

The present regime has made it difficult for we to enjoy our hard earned money, because the money is now small

Even with the situation of things 500k is still a big money for a family 3 to 5 to survive for a month.

If you really want to catch cruise by this post, please go ahead.

But if you really want to learn, I can teach you.

Every time you receive your monthly salary

1. Transfer N200,000 immediately to a bank account that has no ATM or mobile app on your phone. "Even if your mother or only son is about to die" (just for emphasis), do not withdraw 1 kobo from that particular account. Learn to Save. It is the first step. If you cannot get this step, forget about the next step.

2. When the funds in it have grown to N2.4million, which represents 1 Year of presumed uninterrupted Savings, move to the next stage, which is the stage of Investment in Shares, Bonds, Treasury Bills, Real Estate, or Commercial Papers.

A lot of people dive into investments when they have not mastered the art of Savings. Sometimes, they get lucky and make a lot of money from their investments, but guess what? Sooner rather than later, they withdraw all the profits from their investments, and instead of re-investing it to make more money, they spend it all. That is wrong.

Two things everyone ready to learn from my personal experience is this:

a. So long as you have money to spend, you will always see something to spend it on.
b. Do not Save money after making Expenses. Rather Save money, before you start making Expenses.
c. Always remind yourself that if you were being paid half of your present monthly salary, or income, you will still survive.
d. Always remind yourself that it is better to "starve yourself" when you have enough money, than to go begging when you have exhausted all the money that you have.

Finally, if you are richer Tomorrow than you are richer Today, you are a Wise person. But if you are richer Today, than you are richer Tomorrow, you are a Foolish person.

I really do miss Pretydiva

Building a home is expensive but still better than paying 2.4m per year. Try save up and build. It's the RED PILL you must take NOW because things are not getting better.
