After watching President Zelensky's clash with Trump I really pity the people of Ukraine.

Donald is far from being my cup of tea but the Ukrainian leader was unwise to put in nicely in the way he handled him. Now a potential path to peace has been stalled for God knows how many months because of Zelensky's lack of tact.

Trump has always been the way he is so handling him requires a lot of ego massaging especially when dealing with him face to face. You can play the unyielding, tough, and uncompromising leader when talking to your base but with Donald so far you need his buy in, you must surely swallow nonsense.

For all the tweets of support European leaders are offering to Zelensky will it actually translate to troops on ground and weapons?

Time will tell.

I want to imagine before that public meet, there'd have been paper work done behind closed doors so something of an understanding was already reached.

Zelenesky is not happy because Trump is trying to usurp his power. In 2022, Zelenesky enacted a law in Ukraine prohibiting anybody in Ukraine or their European or American allies from negotiating with Putin. Even if there was to be a negotiation, he Zelenesky will lead all the negotiation. So literally, the law made it impossible and illegal for US & RUSSIA to meet in Saudi Arabia to negotiate about Ukraine.
