It is fuel Importation from marketers that's forcing Dangote to cut down pump price, otherwise, fuel price would have been higher. Those calling for Importation to stop, better think it twice.
Besides, the raw materials for cement are here in the country, so why is it that high?
Ask your drug baron president

Why demand from Dangote that cement be reduced to a certain amount while an agency of government will still increase existing taxes or create more taxes for struggling manufacturers like Dangote?

After the ill-timed double subsidy of pms and the floating of naira,I expected the FG to provide some tax reliefs for manufacturers so that they can continue to sustain production without the need to increase prices!

Look at the bakery industry,30 different taxes and yet you want a baking company to reduce the price of bread to a certain amount!

They reduced the price to the distributors but the distributors did not reduce their price to the customer and were pocketing the difference so they put it back up. At least that’s what they said.
How can someone believe that?
If they reduced, create awareness so the public will know. That's not an excuse abeg

How is importation forcing dangote to reduce price,

Nnpc sells around 950

if Dangote decides to sell for #950 is it not more gain, even at #850 is dangote not making profit, #100 cut is a lot to throw away

Since dangote reduced price have Nnpc done anything, kyari claim they no longer import and soneye claim nnpc is buying dangote fuel ... how come nnpc price is way higher

It's still expensive considering the raw materials are locally sourced.
The equipments used in processing the raw materials are either powered by exhubitant phed electricity or a very expensive diesel purchase...
You still need the same electricity to bag the products....
You will also need trucks that run on an expensive diesel to transport the products to different locations....
Same government behaving like they care for the masses will use their revenue agencies to increase tariffs or create new ones to continue collecting more funds from struggling manufacturers who will heap the production burden on the consumers!

Even when the trucks get to their state destination, agberos will collect their fee and police will also collect their own share!

Manufacturing a product in Nigeria is extremely tough....this is why the imported products are far more cheaper than that produced by local manufacturers!

Hope Umahi knows that Dangote & BUA are some of the highest tax payers in Nigeria.

He better keep his mouth in his pocket.
Exactly!
They keep increasing the taxes of these companies and still question why the products are always increasing in price!

Nigerian just Dey look at FG Everytime. Yet governors are just infidels roaming about without directions.
You guys think it's easy to setup a manufacturing platform in Nigeria considering the obvious challenges they face!

The constricting and economically unfeasible government policies of tariffs increment, forex fluidity and stiff manufacturers competition among many are affecting cost of production Hence, can't dictate price of commodities like cement.
Are u an educated illiterate?

Oga I am not a spokesman for the cement industry. There was awareness at the time. It was all over the news and even threads about it on Nairaland.

Make of the info what you want but the majority of our problems are Nigerians themselves. Agric middle men who had been hoarding grains are now complaining that the prices are going down. Unpatriotic fuel importers are complaint that Dangote has reduced prices. Ordinary Nigerians are the major problem of Nigeria.

“BUA Cement Chairman Abdulsamad Rabiu has disclosed how his company's attempt to reduce cement prices to ₦3,500 per bag was thwarted by unscrupulous dealers.

During the 8th Annual General Meeting on Thursday, August 29, Rabiu detailed how the dealers exploited the company's price reduction policy to gain profit.

Rabiu explained that many dealers failed to pass on the savings to customers despite BUA Cement's decision to lower prices. Instead, they capitalised on the situation, inflating prices to as much as ₦7,000 or ₦8,000 per bag while purchasing from BUA at ₦3,500.“

Why are you guys talking like this, despite knowing the truth? You've been saying competition is good and dangote can't be allowed to dwell on monopoly of petrol. It will only make sense if you admit that the federal government via the NNPCL is the one monopolising the petrol in Nigeria which needed to be broken and not dangote. Had dangote not come on board, petrol would have neared 1,400 today. On the cement thing, they don't need to advise dangote, he already knows what to do and again, you said raw materials used in making cement are here right? Do you blast the rocks, grind and bag without applying the chemicals that enable the grinded rocks coagulate when it touches water? We don't have them here. It's imported.

Despite all the frustrations by the FG, dangote was able to flag off refining and the NNPCL became restless and later stepped in, in order to cover up their subsidy scam. Before August 2024, dangote said he'd flood the market with its petrol and sell even cheaper than the NNPCL and they blocked him. They knew he would spoil things for them. They first started by saying his petrol was adulterated and later said he's owing the CBN, the loan he had almost liquidated. Dangote felt frustrated and said a top man in government owns a blending facility in malta and they quickly left dangote cos the cabals already knew he's ready to fight dirty and expose them. Later, they said he must be selling to the public through them and they'd be the one to dictate the price. He allowed them after pausing for a while, though not favourable.

Later, the NNPCL said they'd need to appoint 3 marketers to import to complement dangote's local efforts as he can't meet local demand . Dangote came out with proofs that he could meet and even surpass local consumption and obtained a court order to stop the FG backed NNPCL which he later took down after being advised to do so by friends. Still the NNPCL in their usual habit to keep milking the public went ahead and appointed those marketers to import both petrol and the products for the port harcourt blending facility which they deceived you was a refinery.

A few months ago, dangote announced a reduction in pump price and the NNPCL followed suit. If you were asked in an exam who's the real monopoly here, you'd not make a mistake of picking dangote. 3 weeks later, NNPCL lamented that the reduced price wasn't sustainable, as if they were forced to emulate dangote grin. 3 days ago, dangote announced a further reduction in the pump price and the 3 marketers appointed were already declaring billions of naira losses when the new price had not even taken effect yet.

It's worrisome the way you guys are defending these scammers despite the obvious. Make una continue. We're in it together.

I thought BUA promised us something, what's happening then?
Cement made with limestone mined in kogi and edo state shouldn't in any way be as costly as it is.

Looking at the kind of profits BUA and Dangote are declaring goes a long to show that they are selling cement way higher than it should be sold
Ofege fake promise by BUA is just like the fake promises of the A-looter Propaganda Congress, APC since 1999 in Lagos, Borno and other states before they were allowed into Aso Rock 10 years ago.

bamideleafolabi:
BUA Group has decided to being down the price of Cement effective October 2, 2023.

According to a statement from the Cement manufacturer, the organization decided to bring the price reduction forward rather than waiting till when its new production lines were completed as it had earlier promised.

Based on the latest development, the ex-factory price has now been fixed at 3,500 NAIRA per bag, 'so that Nigerians can begin to enjoy the benefits of the price reduction even before the completion of the new plants'.

The statement further revealed that upon completion of the new plants which will increase BUA production volume to 17million Metric tons per annum, the company intends to further review downwards the price of cement by first Quarter of 2024 in line with earlier promise.

Dangote is a monopolist .. tell him to crash the price or open the border let's flood the market with foreign cement... 50kg of cement In Dubai is 4200 why are we buying it 10,000 here when we have all the resources

Govt says "amid improved economic conditions". So which one come be constricting and economically unfeasible govt policy, forex fluidity again? Also, how does competition among manufacturers negatively affect prices of products?

How has the economic condition improved?
I bought 5L of Kings veg oil for 11k in Sept last year. By January, it was sold for 21k. It reduced to 19,500 in late February.
Do you call that an improvement?
An administration that focuses on saving face is worse than a bad one.

😄😄

I'm happy you mentioned other countries but please don't forget to add that those countries boast of a 'conducive environment' for businesses or companies to thrive!

A conducive environment entails constant electricity, affordable transportation, effective security, accessibility to rural areas, affordable and harmonized tax system!
Which of these requirements above have an average state in Nigeria accomplished let alone the LGAs?

Most LGAs in Nigeria don't even have up to 15 hours in a week...some LGAs are still battling insecurity and no accessible roads...yet you believe a manufacturing system will work there?

Guy be realistic for once!

No business person or investor will be financially stupid to throw away hard earned funds in an arena without the basic requirements for a conducive environment!

BUA reduced the price substantially at a time. From some reports at that time, the major distributors and middle men were the ones making the gains. They didn't sell at the recommended retail price so the benefit was withdrawn.
