The continent will grow by removing the wigs?

I haven't said not to wear the wig or wear it.

Removing the wig solely because "it's a colonial relic" while you keep the court, the legal system et'al is profound f00Iishness.

"Innocent until proven guilty" is a colonial relic, I'm thinking we should reject it because it's a colonial relic too.
Legal proceedings are colonial relic, we should do away with them too right?

Remind me again why think we should keep the Court, the legal codes and system since we are hell bent on doing away with colonial conventions.

The way u reason is a plague to the society.
After Nigeria's civil war in 1970, Nigeria dropped Britain's Right-hand driving, dropped the British Pound Sterling, dropped Britain's Imperial measurement system.

Why can't Nigeria also drop that heavy head cover worn by lawyers and judges? There is extreme cold in Great Britain. That could be reason for lawyers and judges covering their head. There is extreme heat in Nigeria, why add to the sufferings from heat by wearing heavy stuff on the head?

Please ask the dictator why he did not change his Military regalia to African Attire. The guy just deh do things in reverse order thinking he's making sense. Maybe he should also start using donkey as a means of transportation and also jettison all western technology and replace it with crude ones.

There are several good reasons not to wear those wigs. I have long wished for those wigs to be done away with in our legal system, so this came as a pleasant surprise.

Burkina Faso on the move...

they speak doula more than french, doula is the language of Cote D'Ivoire, Burkina Faso and mali. Majority don't speak french but they speak doula.

They don't look happy in the attires. It's like they've got no choice because of the military rule.

Military rule na menace.

This is laughable.
The legal code came to MOST African countries through colonial rule, it's a colonial remnant.
The Court is also a colonial remnant but Africans in their profound wisdom think that removing the wig which came along with the court but keeping the court and the legal system is seen as a "challenge outdated colonial practices".
This is why the continent doesn't really grow.
Correct.
I hate it when countries define their identity in terms of colonialists.
It reeks of inferiority complex.

There are millions of reasons to dump the wigs(it has even been abandoned
by many colonialist), but what is it about perpetual victimhood?

And leaders who do this showmanship are those who needs to distract the
populace from pressing issues.

The irony is that the military uniform the dear leader of Burkina Faso wears
is also a colonial relic. That is not how an African General dressed.

makes more sense if you stop putting on clothings.. because those are inventions from the west
Make you go naked them nah. Na you go find inventions for dem shey, as if you dwell in Burkinafaso or know their traditional wears there.

I don't know what will satisfy you people. You Africans most times abuse and troll your leaders that they have no vision or creative. And here you see someone doing what many africans dream of, yet you're complaining.

You and I know that the journey of a thousand miles start with a step.

Look, whether western invention or not, what matters most is that they create what they can take credit for from their own brain and innovations not what colonial master gave them. And same goes for official language, until then, we Africans can't earn the respect of other serious nations in the world especially the colonial masters.

It's no joke enforcing ideologies like this even as military government. He (Burkinafaso head of state) is doing what many has failed to do in Africa for decades, and this is what you say?

Or you think western powers (French and Co) are not actively working on how to terminate him even as we are talking?

Please give credit when you see one. It ain't hard. I'm proud of the innovation as an African. It's a good message Burkinafaso's government is sending to her citizens and other African nations.

GistMedia0:
In a historic shift, lawyers and judges in Burkina Faso will now wear exclusively African clothing in court, marking the end of the colonial-era tradition of donning European-style wigs and robes. The decision aligns with the country’s broader push for cultural identity and self-reliance, eliminating the need for imported legal attire.

This decision marks a significant step in reinforcing African heritage and pride, aligning with a broader movement across the continent to break free from imposed traditions. Many view this as an act of cultural liberation, symbolizing a shift in mindset that prioritizes African identity over remnants of colonial influence.

Observers believe this move reflects a growing wave of consciousness across Africa, with Burkina Faso’s leader,Captain Ibrahim Traoré, seen as a driving force in this revolution. As more African nations challenge outdated colonial practices, will others take inspiration from Burkina Faso’s example?
They never wore UK styled wigs in the first case - so there is nothing radical about this. What Africa needs is not culture wars and symbolic action but true change and independence.

So Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger should first free their currency from its peg to the French Central Bank French Franc- When they do this, we will acknowledge true progress.

Makes so much sense tbh...!

What won't make sense is if they still remain corrupt and high-handed.

If Africa can start doing away with Corruption, high import-dependence and stay true to Africa, things will improve massively.

Nigeria has lessons to learn.

Nigerian lawyers are obsessed with the outward appearance of the profession - and the false air of exclusivity that the wig/robe represent. They have stoutly resisted most attempts to change the attire.

I thought as much. Oyibo get mouth oo.

The whole thing about this moving away from so-called colonial whatever is just unnecessary nonsense!

There is what is called legacy. if it is not bad, why advocate to change it? And even if you want to change it, please go ahead. why talk as if you have a deep seated hate towards a people who are busy with their lives and don't even know you exist!

One thing with them again is that due to their highly intellectual culture, they are good with words. If they deside to ''reason you matter'', like you put it, you will hate yourself.

The UK does not care whether or not you keep wearing the gown and wig. But frankly, what's wrong with it? That attire gives some kind of character to that profession. If it does no harm, why even talk about changing it? That's nationalism and anti colonialism taken too far to include what is ABSOLUTELY unnecesary!

Those who can't move on but keep on with this behaviour, would not like to give up the current boundaries we have in Africa.

Promotes production of local fabrics while simultaneous reducing imports. If these esteemed professionals can wear their local fabrics, it will have a ripple effect across all sectors.

Some time ago, the President also directed all schools to make their uniforms out of their local fabrics.

Commendable move.
