In a historic shift, lawyers and judges in Burkina Faso will now wear exclusively African clothing in court, marking the end of the colonial-era tradition of donning European-style wigs and robes. The decision aligns with the country’s broader push for cultural identity and self-reliance, eliminating the need for imported legal attire.

This decision marks a significant step in reinforcing African heritage and pride, aligning with a broader movement across the continent to break free from imposed traditions. Many view this as an act of cultural liberation, symbolizing a shift in mindset that prioritizes African identity over remnants of colonial influence.

Observers believe this move reflects a growing wave of consciousness across Africa, with Burkina Faso’s leader,Captain Ibrahim Traoré, seen as a driving force in this revolution. As more African nations challenge outdated colonial practices, will others take inspiration from Burkina Faso’s example?
They should also adjudicate with customary law

makes more sense if you stop putting on clothings.. because those are inventions from the west
clothes are inventions from the west? Ur lack of education doesn't surprises me one bit.
Some other parts not only wore threads but smelted iron for use as hoe in agriculture. These were the civilized parts of africa mostly migrants.
...so because ur people were butt naked, cannibals and savages doesn't give u right to use that blankett sense for the rest.

The way it should be. Our dressing should reflect our culture. No sense in knotting tie in a hot environment

😅😅 Who chose this attire for them? So tacky, and still draws from European style with its fur, and being a robe, still.

Now, that they've changed to fake still-European styled attire, when would they mandate their women to quit wearing fake European hair?

Stop being an imbeci.le.

Indians, Chinese, Japanese etc, do not reason like this your cockroach reasoning.

They do not say “Oh because we use this or that aspect of western convention, therefore we must dress like them, talk like them, act like them, and wear their hair on top of our heads!”

Chinese borrowed heavily from western technology. Do you see them struggling to speak English or borrow christian religion or Islam, or adopt western political systems etc?

NO.

They take what they need from outside while maintaining their cultural independence and dignity.

Learn from them!

Additionally, Nigeria practices Customary Law in addition to Common Law, so we’re not a one-trick pony.
Shut up and don't be like illiterate.... Do you know how Chinese, Japanese or Korean dress in modern days ?
Guess you don't... They adopted western dress primarily stop sounding like illiterate and always fact check your informations.

It's a welcome development. Next we'd start talking about why men ; the provider of the universe would go down on their knees to propose to girls for a "White wedding". Which one be "White wedding? "

So the continent will grow if you wear English wigs on your heads?

I mean, the way you people reason is so embarrassing.

India uses the British common law system, but don’t wear the wigs.

South Africa same.

The USA same.

Remind us again why you think you should wear them?

Don’t you know you look stupid wearing a white man’s hair as a black man?

What the hell is wrong with you?

Succinctly stated.

Americans lawyers and attorneys don't wear those funny-looking colonial-era white wigs and black gowns that lawyers in countries colonized by Britain and other former colonial powers wear, BUT they put on well-tailored or bespoke suits and skirt suits for male and female attorneys while in court.

Countries around the world still caught in the cesspit of past colonial vestiges MUST learn to "Glocalize." "Think locally and Act globally." Period.

This question sounds illiterate. A suspect should be defended in court whether guilty or not.
