Parts availability: This particular car is common in Nigeria already. Changan is already in the market, they are everywhere already in Lagos. U must have seen it. It's has a "V" logo. So all the parts are available.
Repairs: So all the suspension and body parts are available either in open market or in their dealerships across the country. They are the same setup with the regular vehicles, so ur regular mechanic can fix it.
On the electric motor, nothing will happen to it except it's accidented very badly. The only thing u will change around 10 year mark is the EV battery.
Battery Durability: 10-15years so for a 2020 car with less than 400km on it, u still have at least 10 years on the batteries.
Replacement cost: these are not American or European cars. The Changan batteries cost around $2k (N3m). And the prices are reducing cos the technology is no longer pioneer. So by the time u will need a replacement, it will not be as expensive.
Practical case; the hybrid batteries for Prius and Muscle used to be around 1m to 1.5m but now its less than 500k.
Rugged for ehailing: this one doesn't have ur regular engine that will die if stressed out too much. This is plug and go. Provided u have juice in ur battery the car is good to go.
Durability: So far Lagride has used GAC for 3 years and those cars are still standing, then we can say quality Chinese cars are durable too.
I am sure by the looks of Changan u wouldn't even know Changan is Chinese except for the name.
Battery range: a full battery can carry you 300miles/450km. Normal house charging will charge it back to full bar in 6hours.
Fast charging will recharge in 1hr.
Fast charging system installation is 250k.

If I make 120k daily and spend 30k fuel to make it. I am never getting my 30k back. It's gone forever because my profit is not 120k but 90k. That 30k is gone forever. Tomorrow I will spend another 30k on fuel again.
Now imagine u can drive and make 120k without spending 30k on fuel***guy, d thought of that alone is what is gingering me.
The only discourage here is the high initial capital. If I can get this car on installment payment then I will dive in. Afteral HP for Naija used Corolla now is about 7-8m.

How do u know companies haven't adopted it yet? Someone just said he knows a company running EV fleet for taxi. I have seen many EVs on d road, and some cars are EV but u will not know cos it doesn't have d regular robot design.

There are many things that affect the decision of companies, many companies now don't even want to own official cars, they use Bolt and Uber for all office admin, marketing and logistics runnings, they hire other companies for their supply chains. If u were on Bolt management u would have discouraged them from doing Bolt Business that nobody will patronize them cos it's cheaper to have company car and move around. But today even banks are making the "foolish" decision of using Bolt Business.
I carried a First Bank logistics guy from First bank Motorways, 7up Tollgate to First bank Adetokunbi Ademola, VI.
The guy said they don't have fleet cars again in d bank. All their waka even to collect one sheet of paper from island to VI is on Bolt. He said in a day he does at least 6 return trips, he was lamenting that he wished d bank can just pay him half of that money and tell him to find a way to deliver all those parcels. That they had cars before but management vex and sold them off cos drivers were taking advantage and defrauding the bank.

Get information and run with it, don't be static in "this is d way u have been doing it so that's d way it will always be". Don't say why are they not buying EVs or who will buy toks EV for $7k. That's myopic, think about what will work for u and do it, dont say why are others not doing it.
Sincerely, the only reason I haven't done CNG is because I still feel what wasn't designed by the manufacturer shouldn't be installed. I don't even put those white halogen lights in my cars cos I feel the wattage wasn't accounted for in d fuse and sensors when the car was designed.

Additionally, I'm not dismissing any claim, but it just doesn't sit well to use EV for commercial use at its early stage of invention, remember, money isn't easy to come by, imagine buying something of 12m just because someone speculated its sustainable and in the long run, it is not. will you get your money back?

EVs are not exempt from custom duties.
The car and shipping is $5k and $2k for clearing.

I'm not convinced about electric cars yet. They're cool, but I think they need some time to get better.
For now, I think switching to CNG makes more sense.

Here's why:

1. You already have a car, and converting to CNG is pretty cheap.

2. CNG is super fuel-efficient. You can drive a long way without needing to fill up much.

3. You already know how to fix your car, and parts are easy to find.

4. If your car breaks down on the road, there are lots of mechanics around to help.

So, I think it's better to wait and see how electric cars improve before switching. They're a great idea, but they need more time to get perfected.

Personally, I won't convert my car to CNG cox I don't feel safe doing so, but if we are to compare it with EVs and hybrid to reduce cost, I feel it's still the best option if you want to switch from gasoline vehicles...

My concern is how much electricity will I need to charge my car daily. From research it's less than N5k. This is significantly lesser than 30k which I currently buy fuel.
Secondly, since the car is also not astronomically expensive, I think it is worth considering.

EVs are very easy to troubleshoot and fix. Plenty DIY examples on YouTube. Parts availability might be an issue though.

You are right, but Custom clearing fees is a gamut of charges including Duty, Excise, Terminal, VAT and other fees. So EVs are duty free but doesn't mean u will not pay anything at all when importing them.
Normally to clear a year 2020 vehicle u will pay more than 5m to clear it.

Most Cab uses EV and hybrid vehicles here, the situation might not be comparable to what we have in Nigeria

Uber and all those ehailing app have a serious competition with local cab services, as each local government ( council area) have their ehailing platform, so drivers prefer to register with them and drive under their platform.

Car finance is also easy over here, you can walk into the dealership and pick a 2025 car for ehailing on pcp, pay the monthly fee and return the car, if you don’t pass the agreed mileage, and if you want to buy the car off, you can finance it off.

Better road and access to car manufacturers maintenance and repairs.

I bought a 2010 Toyota avensis manual, in Feb 2024, 4th owner, mileage 89,000, due to the nature of my work , I drive almost every day and the only repair I have done since then was change the bulb and one new tyre, for my MOT Test.

The Nigeria market in my opinion might not be ready for such type of car for the business, but when the opportunity cost is analysed using the operating cost and earning cost in the ehailing market, the EV car will have a positive figure in the long run, all things been equal, but the disadvantage at this current time, is the fact that if you need to buy any part for the car, you will be buying it in $ and you are earning in naira.

I hope they come with repair manuals because if I eventually get an EV , I'm certainly doing the repairs myself. I won't leave it at the mercy of the incompetent buffoons who call themselves mechanics in this town.

Additionally, I'm not dismissing any claim, but it just doesn't sit well to use EV for commercial use at its early stage of invention, remember, money isn't easy to come by, imagine buying something of 12m just because someone speculated its sustainable and in the long run, it is not. will you get your money back?

Oga, EV was invented long before ICE. So, it's not a new invention.

I'm not convinced about electric cars yet. They're cool, but I think they need some time to get better.
For now, I think switching to CNG makes more sense.

Here's why:

1. You already have a car, and converting to CNG is pretty cheap.

2. CNG is super fuel-efficient. You can drive a long way without needing to fill up much.

3. You already know how to fix your car, and parts are easy to find.

4. If your car breaks down on the road, there are lots of mechanics around to help.

So, I think it's better to wait and see how electric cars improve before switching. They're a great idea, but they need more time to get perfected.

Personally, I won't convert my car to CNG cox I don't feel safe doing so, but if we are to compare it with EVs and hybrid to reduce cost, I feel it's still the best option if you want to switch from gasoline vehicles...

I'm thinking of converting to CNG but when I read where u said u don't feel safe doing so, pls can u tell me why? Does it mean it's not safe to convert to CNG?
