Nigerian lawyers are obsessed with the outward appearance of the profession - and the false air of exclusivity that the wig/robe represent. They have stoutly resisted most attempts to change the attire.

As a lawyer of many years standing, I disagree with you. When you stand up to address the court the last thing on your mind is what you are wearing. The fact that we have continued an English tradition is not bad simply because it does not strike at our character as a unique people. 9ja is a unique brand as our music shows clearly.

Changing lawyers clothes and the like is symbolism. We have changed our reliance on UK laws for precedent. Gani Fawehimi law reports are excellent and indigenous.

The Sahel states on the other hand still use a law based on the French penal code. Let them free themselves from French law and a currency pegged to the French franc then we will hail them.
