I support their self determination but they are just taking ordinary pic, their style of judgement and language will still be french.

Good starting

makes more sense if you stop putting on clothings.. because those are inventions from the west

clothes that your forefathers wore are literally disgusting prior the invention of conventional modern day dress !
The dress you wore today are white inventions especially designs
The West has made a big impact (negative and positive) on our lives. But let's not forget our own rich history.

We had our own traditional clothing long before we met the West. Reading history can teach us a lot.

BreconHills:
Give me substance over optics anyday.
^^^
This is true - when the two are mutually exclusive. But who says we can't have both?

BreconHills:
Changing lawyers clothes and the like is symbolism. We have changed our reliance on UK laws for precedent. Gani Fawehimi law reports are excellent and indigenous.
^^^
There you go.

Progress has been made on the 'substance' front. We can also grind out a few victories on the 'symbolism' front.

The biggest problem is the wig which really does not serve any purpose today. We are in the tropics, our courts are often crowded and ventilation is poor...and a heavy, coarse wig just increases the irritation quotient. Some lawyers themselves have complained about this.

BreconHills:
The fact that we have continued an English tradition is not bad simply because it does not strike at our character as a unique people. 9ja is a unique brand as our music shows clearly.
^^^
Well...even those who own the tradition are poking fun at it. There was some major case in the UK in the last month or two and a very senior judge ruled on the matter in court. The judge was fully robed as expected, but some fellow running commentary said the judge's wig looked like a 'merkin'. I had to look up the meaning...let's just say I wasn't expecting it to be what it was. cheesy

BreconHills:
The Sahel states on the other hand still use a law based on the French penal code. Let them free themselves from French law and a currency pegged to the French franc then we will hail them.
^^^
Fair point. We are waiting to see what steps the Sahel states will take to achieve this. But...France will rather die than release the chokehold it has on its former colonies.

Time will tell.

USA/china/ France/ are all whites. They has all the technology to produce what they want. They only do import/export to promote Int’l trade and foreign relations.

Empty head drowned in inferiority complex, you are a walking symbol of African brainwashing and self hate, and you're a disgrace to whoever birthed you.

Black Africans invented writing, mathematics, law, medicine, architecture (do you know there are 250 pyramids in Sudan, and massive ancient stone ruins in Zimbabwe?), invented IRON-SMELTING in Lejja, South East Nigeria 4,000 years ago, without which there would be NO MODERN TECHNOLOGY TODAY. No cars. No planes. No buses. No phones.

So instead of feeling inferior because you are using a ''white man's phone'', educate your empty head on the groundbreaking African technological innovations, such as MATHEMATICS, GEOMETRY, IRON-SMELTING, AND MINING, that preceded and allowed for later innovations.

But you made out that you ''knew''.

Your words were

''They shouldn't have worn clothes at all because clothes were brought to us by Europeans.''
That is just shameful and tragic, that you even THINK that.

What is it with you people? What is so hard about taking 30 minutes to research your own history?

Had you not heard of the Benin Kingdom, Oyo Empire, Mali Empire, Ghana Empire, etc before today?

I'm sure you have.

You think they were all running around naked?

You come online and type the most ignorant, debased nonsense about your history.... why?

If you don't know the history, then keep quiet and don't make such silly pronouncements.

This is laughable.
The legal code came to MOST African countries through colonial rule, it's a colonial remnant.
The Court is also a colonial remnant but Africans in their profound wisdom think that removing the wig which came along with the court but keeping the court and the legal system is seen as a "challenge outdated colonial practices".
This is why the continent doesn't really grow.
Well said.
Very foolish race. grin

I haven't said not to wear the wig or wear it.

Removing the wig solely because "it's a colonial relic" while you keep the court, the legal system et'al is profound f00Iishness.

"Innocent until proven guilty" is a colonial relic, I'm thinking we should reject it because it's a colonial relic too.
Legal proceedings are colonial relic, we should do away with them too right?

Remind me again why think we should keep the Court, the legal codes and system since we are hell bent on doing away with colonial conventions.

The way u reason is a plague to the society.
Ignore that Fool.
What has the black race or continent offered the world that is reasonable?

Correct.
I hate it when countries define their identity in terms of colonialists.
It reeks of inferiority complex.

There are millions of reasons to dump the wigs(it has even been abandoned
by many colonialist), but what is it about perpetual victimhood?

And leaders who do this showmanship are those who needs to distract the
populace from pressing issues.

The irony is that the military uniform the dear leader of Burkina Faso wears
is also a colonial relic. That is not how an African General dressed.
They don't know that, they think change is by àttàcking the west.
We can drop the wig and gown for various reasons not centered on "colonial relic".
Re: Burkina Faso Lawyers And Judges Now Wear African Attire In Court (Photos) by JagabanBorgu: 6:54pm On Mar 13, 2025
discusant:
After Nigeria's civil war in 1970, Nigeria dropped Britain's Right-hand driving, dropped the British Pound Sterling, dropped Britain's Imperial measurement system.

Why can't Nigeria also drop that heavy head cover worn by lawyers and judges? There is extreme cold in Great Britain. That could be reason for lawyers and judges covering their head. There is extreme heat in Nigeria, why add to the sufferings from heat by wearing heavy stuff on the head?
You are making points that are actually outside "challenging colonial relics" that's how changes are made, you don't make changes solely because it's a colonial relic, that's a joke like the govt of that country did, USA don't use the wigs, their reason in those years was because it makes them look like rats peeping from a hole, for some, it was expensive to maintain, for some, it was unhygienic and too much load when travelling to cover court cases in provinces far away, that was why US dumped it, but come to Africa and our reason is because it's a colonial relic.
