I was just eight months old when my parents separated, and my mother left me. My grandmother had no choice but to take care of me. Things got even worse when my father remarried, and his new wife didn’t want me around. She made him choose between me and her, and he chose her.

I only lived with my father for eight months before leaving. When I gained admission to the university at 20, my stepmother convinced him not to support me. She told him, 'If this one has to go to university, he will wait for my child to grow so they can go together,' and that child was 18 to 20 years younger than me.

Years later, I met my mother, but there was no emotional connection between us. When I saw my father again, we sat in silence for about thirty minutes, both of us crying. I told him I was out of school and had started working.

As tradition demands, I brought a drink and N5,000 in an envelope, asking him to pray for me. But he refused to touch it, saying his conscience wouldn’t let him because he never contributed a dime to my life.”

He did well for himself. Many are like him here. What do they do with the situation? They use it to insult almost every poster on Nairaland. Terrible upbringing is why mongrels here are rude. The rest are sheltered kids trying to rebel online. In the real world, they can’t face people.
