Why should they? Why add another weak nation into NATO and further anger Russia. Giving Ukraine a NATO membership has no advantage to NATO and might even lead to ww3. Russia doesn't even need to take Canada or Mexico in order for America to turn the world upside down. Ordinary russian military base in any of these countries will make America start ww3. America can't take one quarter of what Russia has tolerated. America and NATO have been systematically advancing east of Europe over the years breaching and age-long agreement. Ukraine was a step taken too far. Remember what happened between america and Cuba.

Just like the former USSR, the US is made up of independent countries mopped into one large sum, why is nobody even talking about breaking them up the way the rest of the world did to USSR?
We hear about US attempting to add Canada as another state in the US, but Russia can't take back Crimea which was forcefully taken away from them. The rest of the world joined ukraine to separate from Russia but Russia can't support separatists in eastern Ukraine who wants to separate from Ukraine (double standards). Ukraine deserves whatever that is coming to them cause Russia wanted to avoid this war but Ukraine was forming strong man because of people they felt was backing them. Why not allow separatists in eastern Ukraine (who are mostly Russians) to secede so u can join Ur NATO in peace. At least Russia won't have to contend with US missile launchers in its backyard

National security reasons. If they believe it threatens their sovereignty. This is the real world we live in. You must have the might (it is still right in this world). The U.S. wanted to do the same thing to Cuba during the Soviet era. They will never tolerate what they are using Ukraine to do to Russia. Although Trump is now trying to do a reset. However, the Europeans are still keen on perpetuating that threat. Even Australia considered invading Solomon Islands because of a potential military alliance with China and the possibility of it leading to the establishment of a base. Some people are just not current with world events and politics.
