It replied:

President Bola Tinubu is constitutionally eligible to seek re-election in 2027. His potential for securing a second term will depend on various factors, including his administration's performance, public approval, and the strength of the opposition.

Public Approval:

As of February 18, 2025, a real-time approval rating tracker reported that 33.0% of 182 Nigerian citizens approved of President Tinubu's performance. This reflects a decline from earlier ratings; for instance, over the past year, his approval rating averaged 27.5%, peaking at 43% in June 2023 and dipping to 11% in February 2024. Fluctuations in approval ratings can significantly influence re-election prospects.

Economic Policies:

In his New Year message, President Tinubu outlined an ambitious economic agenda for 2025, focusing on reducing inflation from 34.6% to 15% by boosting food production, encouraging local manufacturing, and promoting domestic production of medical supplies. The success or failure of these initiatives will likely impact public perception ahead of the 2027 elections.

Political Landscape:

Supporters within the All Progressives Congress (APC) express confidence in Tinubu's re-election. For example, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje stated that President Tinubu will seek re-election in 2027 and that the North should wait until 2031 for a presidential bid. Similarly, former Abia State Governor and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu declared that Tinubu's re-election is inevitable.

Conversely, opposition figures believe Tinubu may face challenges. Shehu Gabam, National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), asserted that Tinubu would lose in 2027 due to his unpopularity and policies perceived as anti-people. Additionally, opposition elements are reportedly negotiating a fresh political platform to unseat him.

While President Tinubu is eligible to run in 2027, his re-election will depend on his administration's performance, public approval, economic conditions, and the effectiveness of both his campaign and the opposition. The evolving political and economic landscape will play a crucial role in determining the outcome.

Allegations of election rigging in Nigeria are not new, and the 2023 election was highly controversial, with opposition parties and some observers accusing Bola Tinubu and the ruling APC of manipulating the results. However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared Tinubu the winner, and the courts upheld his victory despite legal challenges.

As for 2027, the ability to rig an election would depend on several factors:

1. INEC's Reforms and Integrity: If INEC strengthens election processes, including better electronic transmission of results and stricter oversight, rigging would be more difficult. However, if the system remains weak or compromised, there could be opportunities for manipulation.

2. Judicial Independence: The courts played a major role in upholding Tinubu’s 2023 victory. If they continue to support the ruling party, opposition challenges in 2027 may face similar obstacles.

3. Public Resistance and Opposition Strength: If the opposition unites and mobilizes voters effectively, it could reduce the impact of any attempted rigging. However, a divided opposition could make manipulation easier.

4. International Pressure: Global organizations and foreign governments criticized the 2023 election’s lack of transparency. If they apply more pressure in 2027, it could discourage large-scale rigging.

While Tinubu has significant control over the state apparatus, whether he can successfully rig the 2027 election will depend on how the political and electoral environment evolves. If systemic weaknesses remain, manipulation is possible, but a more robust electoral system and stronger opposition could make it harder.

That part alone should have told you the answer you got is misinformed. How do you use a sample of 182 people to determine the choices of over 200 million people.

Does that sound right to you?

You should fail because it's easy for the lecturer to know you cheated. Don't forget that others may have used it too so similar prompts and answers gave you away.

It could reflect the true picture depending on demographic spread. Even if you sampled a skewed 2 million, it still wouldn't be representtive of outcome.
