Welp on one hand, Russia in its attempt to prevent NATO presence at its doorstep(which is understandable by the way) by invading Ukraine successfully pushed Finland and Sweden into joining NATO. Now NATO is present at its doorstep.
On the other hand, President Zelensky was unwise to have listened to former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s advice not to give in to the peace talks proposed by Türkiye in March 2022 when the conflict was still at its early stages and Russia hadn’t taken a significant amount of Ukrainian land. Fast forward to 2025, Russia has at least 20% of Ukrainian territory and is refusing to relinquish the captured territories whether or not a peace deal is struck.

At the same time this same Zelensky went to the White House. President Trump said no more military or financial aid, agree to a peace deal. And if Ukraine was going to require a security guarantee, the only guarantee that the US can provide is American mining companies operating in Ukraine (which sounds more beneficial for the United States than it is to Ukraine). Zelensky refused. Ok good, there are many reasons that point why he refused but this same Zelensky went to meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and signed a loan of 2.8 billion dollars. For what, rebuilding Ukraine…?? Buying more weapons…?? Or personal use…??
The only plausible deal I could think of was Russia halting its military advances and in return, no more western supply of weapons aid for Ukraine. And as for security guarantee that Russia won’t occupy Ukraine again(cause they’ve done it not once, but twice within the period of a decade. Raises suspicion of if President Putin has ambitions to revive the Soviet Union), UN peacekeeping troops(none of which would be from the permanent members of the UN security council) will be deployed in Ukraine for the period of time that Ukraine is rebuilt and its armed forces are strong enough to defend the nation. And if Russian troops ever occupied Ukraine again for any reason except being permitted by the UN or Ukraine, then they get the North Korean treatment, i.e worldwide sanctions and isolation(of which BRICS member states must participate or face consequences) and the military intervention of the UN Security Council.

Tinkering with $50 billion in global aid [80% spent in the US], and at best, another 50 billion for Ukraine [most of the money goes to US defence companies], in the context of $1 trillion in annual budget deficits, and $35 trillion in debt, would I suspect, please a small-minded taxpayer not particularly good at counting, easily impressed by showmanship and not substance.

Not only that but American credibility and geopolitical reach has took a massive hit.

The Ukraine money along with the money being taken away from the programs DOGE is slashing or shutting down will be used to offset the cost of the tax breaks the current administration is trying to give themselves & the Super Elite. The average American want see much if any of it.

The Nigerian Air Force has taken delivery of at least four of twelve ex-French Air Force Dassault/Dornier Alphajet light attack and advanced jet trainer aircraft.

The delivery is a direct result of an earlier contract awarded to SOFEMA by the Nigerian Air Force for the refurbishment and upgrade of the Alpha Jet fleet.

Under this agreement, six of the ex French Air Force jets sourced by Sofema will be restored for operational use, while the rest will serve as spare parts.

Is there a non-rough neighborhood anywhere in Africa? The North has Libya, Eastern Egypt, and Western Sahara. The West has the Sahel. Central Africa is made up largely of the DRC need I say more? The East has Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Uganda, AND the DRC. Southern Africa while probably the least rough has the developing Mozambique situation, and xenophobia.

Zelensky headed for state visit to South Africa in April, Ramaphosa’s Presidency confirms

Zelensky plays his RSVP card for a state visit to South Africa following the explosive meeting between the Ukrainian leader and US President Donald Trump at the White House last Friday. Ukraine has long-awaited an invitation for a state visit from South Africa.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit South Africa next month, the South African Presidency said on Thursday.

“President Zelensky will be visiting South Africa on the 10th of April,” said Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya.

“The visit is a continuation of ongoing engagements held by President [Cyril] Ramaphosa with President Vladimir Putin and President Zelensky on an inclusive peace process that will provide a path to peace between Russia and Ukraine,” he added.

Ukraine has long-awaited an invitation for a state visit from SA.

South Africa and Africa in general definitely need to be bolstering your defensive capabilities; but do you really think you’ll get a nuke sent all the way down South just because you eased relations with Ukraine?

Oh well, it didn't need to get to the cutting of aid, I mean there's a lot of negative consequences that could happen, including social instabilities, crashing of economies, population explosions, new internal conflicts starting because there's a sudden shortage of food, medicine and educational opportunities that came with the aid... This is literally what a bad-faith player like Russia could exploit.

Aid could secure some kind of stability for resource extraction for Europe especially if this world war goes fully hot, doing otherwise would give Russia and China an easy cheap buy from African countries tearing themselves apart.
