In fact, by your standards, it’s safe to ignore two-thirds of the Bible because the people being addressed did not practice Christianity.

You need to be tutored soundly and I don't have the power for that.Look at like this..the old laws were like a candle light but now Nepa has brought light so why do u need the candle light?Using candle to see in the dark wasn't wrong but now Nepa don come.The people telling you to keep buying the candles u don't need are the people that have a shop full with candles and them wan make profit...taxes etc aren't in the old laws.The new law is simple..love God and love your neighbor as yourself.if u do,you will pay taxes,give generously without compulsion or condition to the things of God,would heal any day,will put humanity above money and you will dine with tax collectors.finito..simple

Then since rituals work for people,the should just continue since it works for them..cognitive disonance.last time I checked,it's only the people collecting tithe that are the richest but I am the ignorant one .omg..God save our youths,our parent gawk am..but pls enlighten these young children..show them that you don't need their money..you are not hungry or you are not an agbero..you are the creator of the universe and it is an insult to you for money to be collected on your behalf .pls God.

Above is the key word.
When Christ says " you should have practiced the FORMER, what does that imply?
Does that look like a mandate to not do something?
Why will he tell us to practice the FORMER if he himself felt tithe was not a scriptural thing to do... He could have blatantly demonized it..
BUT HE DIDNT.

In the bible, Christ was very explicit on things he felt were evil or unscriptural..Even though in Matthew 23:23 he was making a comparison he was clear with his comparison...he posited that a lot of things were more important than tithing HOWEVER..DO THE FORMER. WITHOUT NEGATING THE LATTER..

Anybody who argues against this explicit reaction from Christ already has a deep conviction of the wrong thing and hence cannot be convinced!!

Only Mathew 23:23 is relevant to tithing. Even though, Jesus never emphatically stated tithe paying there, you could hear him say it is "minor".

But the issue is, most Pastors these days lay much emphasis on tithing, than salvation itself. I've heard things like "if you don't tithe, things will be tight for you", which is unbiblical.

In my opinion, people are to pay tithe willfully and cheerfully, not under compulsion. This is not to discourage tithing in any way, I would even say tithing is good, but I discourage this greed most Pastors have towards tithe.

Why should emphasise on it when the people he was speaking to understands and pays their tithe. Tithing was not a contentious topic when Christ came to save mankind. It's not something true believers should argue about.
