Misleading the public
Not a crime unless she financially benefited fraudulently or someone got harmed.

False claims
Doesn't apply in this case.
Lying is not a crime unless it is accompanied by financial fraud or benefits.

She could make the company to lose real buyers
This isn't a crime as the law doesn't operate on assumptions and suppositions.
But if the company can show they have lost money, then they can be compensated
from her daily daily hawking profits!

SO tell me this, What is a false claim??
False claim is lying about an item usually a product, a qualification
in order to gain financial advantage.

In fact, the only person who can claim civil damages in this case is the church.
Again, the police shouldn't be detaining people based on civil complaints.

This is no different than going on Channels TV as a car expert(who actually never owns no car) and saying
Bentley cars are most fuel efficient. If people call out the lie, then it will be idiotic
for Bentley to jump into the issue.
Only Channels could reasonably sue in such case.

I am not saying the Real Estate company in this case can't sue but they will lose
the case and I am sure their lawyers would have told them the same thing.
This is why they are using the police to illegally punish the woman like many
Nigerians like to do.

The fact that he made this claim inside a house that belongs to an Estate agent, and also claimed she has paid the owner 200M is the issue. She As you can see, the claim is tied to a church. This is an attempt to dupe people into believing it was a miracle.

This is what I have been saying. Imagine there's this god that will send hurricanes and tornados to punish gay people but the god is totally silent concerning all these pastorpreneurs scamming people everywhere. No be mumu thing be that.

It doesn't matter where the statement is made.
It remains a non-criminal act.

Even if we accept this, it is is not a crime.
No financial benefit/loss, no crime!

You are missing the point.
Judges don't make law.
If you take someone to court over land ownership for example.
Does that mean the defendant is a criminal?

Regardless of the verdict, whether you win or lose the case.
Judge will decide Mr. A is the rightful owner and that is the end of it.
No sentence, no punishment.

No crime was committed in such a case.
Such cases are collectively referred to as civil cases.

Where did I say the Judge makes a law?
The judge determines if an offence was committed, that was what my last statement meant. How does that amount to making a LAW?
Determination of weather a crime was committed or not is the job of the judge as this is done through interpretation of the law and guess who.s job that is?

Sowore Calls For Arrest Of 'Prophet' Ebuka Obi Over Alleged Fraud, False Prophecies — Offers Support To Woman Arraigned For False Testimony

March 11, 2025
NEWS

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has called for the arrest and prosecution of self-styled "Prophet" Ebuka Obi, rather than 32-year-old Loveth Helen Alo, who was arraigned on Tuesday for making false claims about owning a five-bedroom duplex in Enugu.

Sowore, in a statement following Alo’s arraignment at the Enugu North Magisterial District Court, accused Obi of deceiving the public with fraudulent prophecies and fake miracles while exploiting unsuspecting church members for financial gain.

“The person who should be arrested and arraigned is the so-called ‘Prophet’ Ebuka Obi, not Loveth Helen Alo,” Sowore said.

The former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) accused Obi of consistently scamming the public, and knocked the authorities for going after Alo instead.

He also expressed willingness to support Alo, urging anyone with her contact information to reach out.

Alo was brought before the court after claiming ownership of a property at WTC Estate, Enugu.

"This is unfair and unjust; the person who should be arrested is the so-called "Prophet" Ebuka Obi, who has consistently given false prophecies, scammed many unsuspecting church members and falsely obtained funds from the public with his fake miracles. If anyone knows this lady, please let me know how we can help," Sowore added.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that Alo had been arraigned before the Enugu North Magisterial District Court for publicly making false claims of owning a five-bedroom duplex located at WTC Estate, Enugu.

The suspect had claimed that God blessed her with the acquisition of the property during a testimony at Ebuka Obi’s Zion Prayer Ministry Movement Outreach in Lagos, Nigeria.

According to the Enugu State Police Command, in a statement on Tuesday, Alo was arrested on February 1, 2025, following a petition alleging that she falsely claimed ownership of the property.

In the statement signed by the Command's spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the police stated that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation, admitting that she acted alone.

Ndukwe explained that Alo was charged with five counts, including obtaining by false pretence with intent to defraud, defamation of character, and attempting to commit a felony by trying to sell the property.

According to the statement, she was granted bail, and the case was adjourned to April 9, 2025, for further hearing.

The statement partly read: "Detectives from the Enugu State Police Command, attached to the Legal Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), on February 1, 2025, arrested a 32-year-old suspect, Loveth Helen Alo, following a petition alleging that she falsely claimed ownership of a five-bedroom duplex located at WTC Estate, Enugu.

"She allegedly presented the property as hers during a testimony at Zion Prayer Ministry Movement Outreach in Lagos, Nigeria.

"The suspect was seen in a viral video testifying at a Zion Ministry program, claiming that God had blessed her with the acquisition of the said property. Footage of the building was displayed in the church during her testimony.

"In another viral video, she allegedly stated that she had purchased the house for two hundred million Naira (N200,000,000.00).

"During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, admitting that she acted alone. She was arraigned today, March 11, 2025, before the Enugu North Magisterial District Court on a five-count charge, including obtaining by false pretence with intent to defraud, defamation of character, and attempting to commit a felony by trying to sell the property.

"She was granted bail, and the case was adjourned to April 9, 2025, for further hearing."

Civic Organisation RULAAC Warns Against Manipulation Of Justice In 'Prophet' Ebuka Obi’s Zion Prayer Ministry's N300million Duplex Testifier Case

March 12, 2025
NEWS

The Executive Director of the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC), Okechukwu Nwanguma, has warned against manipulating justice in the prosecution of the 32-year-old woman, Loveth Helen Alo, who was arraigned in court for publicly making false claims of owning a five-bedroom duplex located at WTC Estate, Enugu State.

Alo was arraigned before the Enugu North Magisterial District Court by the Nigeria Police Force after she claimed that God blessed her with the acquisition of the property during a testimony at Ebuka Obi’s Zion Prayer Ministry Movement Outreach in Lagos, Nigeria.

According to the Enugu State Police Command, in a statement last Tuesday, Alo was arrested on February 1, 2025, following a petition alleging that she falsely claimed ownership of the property.

The police explained that Alo was charged with five counts, including obtaining by false pretence with intent to defraud, defamation of character, and attempting to commit a felony by trying to sell the property.

Reacting to her prosecution, Nwanguma raised concerns about the need for fairness, transparency, and due process in the case.

Nwanguma emphasized the importance of ensuring that Loveth receives proper legal representation to safeguard her procedural rights.

Given the historical challenges of law enforcement bias in Nigeria, he warned that without adequate legal counsel, she could be susceptible to injustice or manipulation during the investigation and trial process.

Highlighting the significance of context in criminal investigations, Nwanguma urged the police to take into account Ebuka Obi’s history of false prophecies.

He noted that ignoring such a record could indicate negligence and potentially undermine the integrity of the current investigation into the allegations against Loveth.

While acknowledging that law enforcement agencies are not obligated to disclose all details of an ongoing investigation, Nwanguma pointed out that relevant reports could be released at the discretion of the authorities.

However, he cautioned that any such disclosure must not compromise the case or violate privacy rights.

In light of persistent concerns about police integrity, Nwanguma called for the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to conduct an independent investigation into the matter.

He stressed that an impartial inquiry would not only help clarify the facts but also ensure accountability in handling the case.

He said, “There is the need for fairness, transparency and due process in Loveth's case in view of the broader context of law enforcement practices in Nigeria.

“It is crucial for Loveth to have legal representation to ensure her procedural rights are protected, especially given the historical issues with law enforcement bias in Nigeria.

“Without adequate legal counsel, she may be vulnerable to injustice or manipulation during the investigation and trial process.

“The police should certainly consider Ebuka’s history of false prophecies as it could contextualize the current allegations against Loveth.

“Ignoring previous records may indicate negligence and could undermine the integrity of the investigation.

“While the police may not typically make all details public, especially during an ongoing investigation, specific reports can be released at the discretion of law enforcement or through public requests, unless it compromises the case or privacy rights.

“The National Human Rights Commission can and should carry out an independent investigation, especially considering public concerns about police integrity.

“An impartial inquiry could help clarify facts and ensure accountability.”

The unfolding situation has drawn public attention, with many urging law enforcement agencies to uphold the principles of justice and fairness.

On March 3, SaharaReporters reported that Alo, who falsely testified at the Zion Prayer Movement Church led by self-proclaimed Prophet Ebuka Obi, had been arrested by the police.

Alo had claimed in her testimony that she had paid N200 million for a N300 million mansion, and would soon pay the balance, but her deception was exposed by Roboconsult, a real estate firm.

During interrogation, she confessed that she neither owned nor paid for the mansion in question.

In the viral video, Alo had declared, "I got this one. The house is two, but this is the one I chose. I have paid N200 million, and I will complete the balance in installments. The house costs N300million."

When confronted about her false testimony at the Zion Prayer Movement Church, where she claimed she had bought a mansion, she admitted that the house was not hers.

However, in 2023, Obi was accused of staging a miracle involving the late veteran actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu.

At the time, Obi had claimed to have healed Okafor, who later passed away on March 2, 2024, after battling an illness that required seven surgeries and the amputation of his legs.

There have also been several allegations against Obi performing staged miracles, though he has refuted the allegations.

Lagos Father Mourns Newborn’s Death After Doctors Allegedly Cut Off Baby’s Tongue At Evang. Ebuka Obi's Zion Church Hospital

March 17, 2025
NEWS

A heartbroken father has recounted how his newborn son tragically passed away after alleged medical negligence at a hospital run by Evangelist Ebuka Obi’s Zion Prayer Movement Outreach in Akoka area of Lagos State.

The man, who resides in Ajah, told SaharaReporters on Thursday that his wife went into labour and expressed her desire to deliver at Sarafik, a church-affiliated hospital on the mainland.

According to the man, he obliged and drove her to the facility, where he was required to pay multiple fees, including N45,000 for an emergency card, N25,000 for scans, and additional charges totaling up to N200,000.

He stated that while at the hospital, he observed another pregnant woman in distress. The woman reportedly travelled from Imo State for prayers at the church but developed complications. Despite paying N45,000 for a hospital card, she was allegedly denied treatment due to financial constraints.

He explained that his own wife successfully gave birth to a baby boy, but doctors insisted on cutting the child's tongue, claiming it would prevent future speech difficulties. According to him, the baby started bleeding excessively afterward.

He said, "My wife was in labour, she mentioned that she wanted to go to Sarafik, which is a Zion Ministry church hospital. I asked where it was, and he said it was on the mainland. I told her it wasn’t too far since we stay in Ajah. I had to do what she wanted. I agreed, and we decided to go.

"I drove down to the place that evening. They said it was an emergency and I asked what I should do. The doctor told me I needed to pay N45,000 for the emergency card, which I did.

"Then they informed me that I needed to pay N25,000 for a scan and other procedures. I paid, and they carried out all the necessary medical checks. They later told me my wife was due for delivery.

"Then they asked me to pay again before they could hand over the baby. I had to pay for sanitary pads and other necessities, which cost N30,000. After that, they told me to have between N140,000 and N200,000 ready. I was shocked and asked why, they explained that it was because it was an emergency case and, since we didn’t bring the necessary items for the baby, we needed to be ready to pay up to N200,000.

"I told them that money was not the issue, as long as my wife delivered successfully and everything was fine.

"While I was there, I saw a lady inside the hospital negotiating. I wasn’t sure what was happening. Later, I learned from another lady outside that she had paid for some people who came all the way from Imo State to the church, not for medical treatment but just for prayers.

"One of the women, who was eight months pregnant, experienced complications that made it seem like she was about to give birth. They rushed her to the hospital inside the church. However, the hospital staff told her they couldn’t afford to treat her, even though she had already paid N45,000 for the hospital card.”

The man said while all that was happening, he was recording everything.

He said, “The woman who had paid the N45,000 was speaking Igbo, but I couldn’t understand because I am not Igbo.

"I recorded the church, the pregnant woman crying and rolling on the floor, and the entire situation. I asked why a church would reject a pregnant woman because of money, knowing she was in distress.

"The woman's husband was running around, desperately looking for a way to take his wife to another hospital. They had only come from Imo State for prayers, yet they found themselves in this terrible situation.

"As for me, my wife delivered successfully, but then the doctors said they wanted to cut the baby's tongue. They claimed that if they didn’t, the baby might have difficulty speaking in the future.

"The baby was heavy and unable to move properly. Suddenly, he started bleeding excessively. When I saw the blood, I asked my wife what had happened. She said the doctor told her the bleeding would stop.

"But the bleeding was too much. She took the baby to the doctor, and when I asked why the baby was bleeding, they confirmed that they had cut the tongue.

“The doctor assured us it would stop. However, the baby continued vomiting blood. Concerned, I went to the doctor to ask when my wife could be discharged. He asked for the hospital card, which I showed him. He checked it and confirmed that she could leave.

"I asked about the cost, and he wrote something for me to take to the cashier. I met the cashier, paid all the necessary bills, and then went upstairs, where the nurse signed the discharge papers and told us we could leave.

“After we got home that night, I noticed the baby was still bleeding. I told my wife, but she insisted the doctor had said it would stop. By morning, the baby was getting weaker.

"I immediately rushed him to Lucent Hospital, where they referred us to Mother Acha in Ajao Ngobo Road. When we arrived, the doctors at Mother Acha were shocked.

"They asked why we had taken the baby to that hospital and why the previous doctors had allowed us to leave while the baby was still bleeding. They said there were ways to stop the bleeding without sending us home. However, despite their best efforts, the baby did not survive.

"As I speak to you now, the baby is in my car. I don’t even know what to do. This is Lagos. I am not questioning God, but the baby is gone."
