What do you gain from lying?

How many states have you been to?
Mention na, I haven't travelled to all States but I know what it takes to run public water supply. Our leaders are not that effective. Ordinary light they can't provide. Water is a lot harder to provide.

It’s unbelievable and embarrassing because when I was growing up there was nothing like sachet pure water , we simply just fetch and drink from the tab at home , all those facilities are dead now , we used to have state water corporation and waterboard then , imagine how much money government will be making from water bills alone

Public utilities are sources of revenues to the government but I just don’t understand nowadays

They started buy making the water unreliable , water go for a whole day and we start looking for water everywhere like petrol scarcity, Fela had to 🎶 sing Government magic

Fela Song
Water dey go! Water dey Come! Government magic …..”

Everyone had to resort to drilling boreholes and wells
I really felt for those that were trapped in such places. I'm sure they still exist all over Nigeria as digging a tube well is impossible in some places. Water will just go for days because politician has made provision for themselves.

House without water is my worst nightmare.

Where in Surulere? Bode Thomas, Denedo, Olatilewa, Palace? Where, did the water enter house or it stopped at a tap outside?

are you freaking kidding me?so because people are importing electrical generator and solar power, Government should not provide conducive power to the people, because someone is selling pure water which was an aberration when I waa young Government should not provide pipe borne watee again..go to Abuja and see how people are enjoying pipe borne water which they still pay for .
I'm not kidding, I'm only talking common sense. If generators have more economic benefits than the national grid then government can consider it but that's not the case... For instance, using fossil fuels to generate electricity makes more economic sense for the government, it’s cheaper than solar, nuclear, wind, thermal, hydro and all the greenhouse nonsense and it also provide cheap energy for the manufacturers in the United States to compete with China... Energy is what drives industrialization, and any country serious about growing needs power, affordable power hence, Trump ripped up the Paris climate deal —for a reason, not because climate change is not a threat but it's a scam that's dragging the West's economy backwards. Green energy’s nice, but for the U.S. to keep its economic edge, cheap fossil fuels are the way to go. Governments don’t just do things because they’re noble; they weigh the economic side too. Lagos, if the government supplied water to every home, think about the ripple effect. You’ve got water treatment workers, plumbers, water distributors, water tanker distributors, companies selling bottled and sachet water, water chemicals treatment sellers in Ojota ( I used to be one then) etc. arguably, about 200,000 people in Lagos rely on those jobs. How are they supposed to feed their families if that dries up? Nigeria’s already short on jobs—do you really think a smart government would cut off these people’s livelihoods like that? Think it through!.

It was working in most places in Lagos in the early 80's till early 2000.....e g Surulere , Festac , old ojo road, Apapa, Ebute meta, Yaba , Lagos Island, Ikeja ......
But poor maintenance destroyed the system. Now it has stopped in majority of those places.....but still working in some places in Apapa
vwater mane was installed during tinubu era. I remember my father paid to get water installed in my house. But the water was like nepa. I travelled to Ekiti in 2007,they also have public water working at strategic location especially if you have tge money u can get it installed in your house

I know you mean well but unless they lay new pipes in all those areas, the water won't be suitable for drinking. They were iron pipes laid well over 40 - 50 yrs ago and they would be thoroughly rusted now, if not yet vandalized by iron workers.

ElevationD:
Hopefully pipelines can be fixed in a lot of the communities that do not have pipelines. New areas have developed over the years and pipelines are not located there.

Old neighborhoods like Ilupeju, Surulere, Victoria Island, Yaba, Anthony, Eric Moore, Ajegunle, Apapa, Jibowu, etc have pipelines running through them. Hopefully new areas like Ajah, Dopemu, Magboro, Ikotun, Ajangbadi, Okokomaiko, Ilogbo, Ikola, Abaranje/Okerube, Agbara, Command, Ayobo, etc can benefit from this. It should take plenty of time to lay the water pipelines, but hopefully the resources can be found to fix the pipelines.

Thank you to Lagos state government and the Governor.

Lagos should look to desalination so they can convert Ocean Water into drinkable water. If Lagos can do that and make use of rainfalls...they may just be able to meet the needs of all Lagosians and properly convert
rain flooding into rain treatment centers...even If people can't drink it, it will serve lots of purposes like construction.

By the way, it will put water truckers out of business so that needs to be discussed now now as well so they won't sabotage the process.

There were in early 80s and 90s in Lagos. I just left Lekki yesterday and flew back to USA. I would rate Lekki 2 out of 10. No water and everywhere smells!

ire aakari water gave me typhoid when I attend Apata...plus nothing hilly about that area..Lagos is mostly a plain marsh , swampy land .
Apata memorial is not on a low land na. Bros talk true. Approaching from Okota roundabout entails driving a little uphill. If you approach through Chemist, na the same. If you approach through Ilasamaja na the same. However, Okota has issues because it is on the low land.

You didn't read my first comment but you read the second! I've been to Enugu trade fair before. I say posters in Igbo for buying water on trucks, tippers, etc. It may be better now!
Yes.

The issue has to do with scarcity especially in the dry season. This particular governor is doing things and moving Enugu forward positively.

If not for irresponsible leaders, Enugu, Jos, Kano, Lagos and Ibadan used to be very nice and comfortable areas for all citizens to live. Enugu and Jos particularly were called civil service cities because they were very suitable for civil servants. They were very peaceful and very well built by the old colonialists too.

Today, we have horrible areas everywhere.
May God continue to help all Nigerians.

Exactly. Do not forget that the old pipes contained lead, which is dangerous to human health. However, I think the pipes recently laid are much better.

Hopefully government will ensure that water goes round. Do not forget that water is like electricity. When supplied, you pay to enjoy the service. Government losses revenue when water is not supplied to citizens.

Cheers.

Am not going to dwell on your conspiracy theory and maga hogwash about green energy, etc .

Saying fossil fuel is the cheapest form of energy is extremely laughable so let me stop there .

No economic sense in not having a water treatment plant for a metropolis..look at American movies..every town always av a watwr towers, thats the first thing they makw aure its there before thinking of building any other thing.

You have to assume that I've not left Nigeria.. You're just making claims without concrete points. If Nigeria government provide water for every household today 100s of thousands of job will be lost. Nigeria is a third world country, there's no job for the populace and you want us to follow the models of developed countries?.

The notion that “it’s not compulsory to do water business” misses the mark. people run water businesses even in developed countries, and it’s perfectly normal. I just searched Google and found a U.S. EPA report showing that some American communities, even in urban areas, rely on decentralized water systems. Private individuals handle their own borehole drilling, water treatment, and distribution. The EPA also notes that over 13 million (in 2022) and 45 million (in 2025) U.S. households depend on personal water sources, like wells they’ve built and maintain themselves. This isn’t some backward anomaly; it’s a standard practice, even in a wealthy nation. Water businesses aren’t odd, they’re a global norm.
Your thinking leans socialist, but a capitalist mindset puts economic impact first, not noble intentions. If noble goals trumped economics, the U.S, with all its wealth, would have universal healthcare like the UK or a railway system linking every state like China. It doesn’t. Childcare, internet access, affordable public transport, free education to university level? Basic amenities, sure, but the U.S. government leaves them to the private sector. That’s no accident, it’s why the U.S. stands as the greatest nation in history. It thrives and can cut-off any country without because its citizens don’t depend on the government for everything. Socialism sounds nice, but it doesn’t work. Capitalism, with all its edges, delivers.

Modified: The reason why you find few generator mechanics in Ghana is because Ghana is a developing country. Developed countries like the US have generator mechanics who work on industrial generators e.g the mining sector, trucks that transport frozen foods big agricultural companies etc.

All the pipelines in those areas are either corroded or damaged beyond repairs. Even the mains are already destroyed. New pipelines need to be installed over Lagos. My one kobo contribution.
