Double standard, all the fraud cases that was leveled against Bukola Saraki at CCT during his time as the Senate President , he refused to step down for fair trial . grin grin
Why is Saraki Interested in this matter, no wander he wrote one letter, few days ago!
What did Nigeria Achieved during his time?
Then Akpabio is right that- Kwara and the North East are the one behind this nonsense in the Senate.
Normal and Reasonable People knows very well, that Natasha is being used,as Agent of disruption and she should face the aftermath and whatever promises they made to her.
Indeed, People can be wicked Or why the hate of your Fellow?
Some Southern Social Media gaulibles pretend or just follow hooks, lines and Sinker, without deep thoughts.
Very Shameful Indeed.

Whenever you box these politicians into a corner, they will play the tribal or religious card. Funny enough you will start hearing "he is our son" from people who cannot even feed 3 times a day.

Once they play that stupid card, you see mumu Nigerians taking sides. To be a Nigerian politician is very sweet. You don't need to be accountable for anything, if they query you, just raise the tribal or religious flag and zombies will come to your defense
You’ve spoken well.
You see, the politicians are not the problem. The citizens, the electorates are! We play the card, all the politicians do is take advantage of the religious card playing to gain sympathy or divert attention from the issue and so cause division.

I particularly felt bad to hear some youths that Akpabio has taken from their future by stealing their common wealth, come here to talk about him wanting to be removed.

Well, they’ve lost hope and they feel their only hope is to be stooges for the wicked politicians. They must have been given some peanuts to eat for the next few days hence their stand.

Just on Nairaland alone, read comments and see paid and unpaid people drag themselves over tribalism. Very irritating from leaders of tomorrow they say but they aren’t even leaders of today talk of tomorrow.

I am not a staunch supporter of the SP , but I believe nothing will come out of this Natasha uproar....las las , she will write an apology letter to the Senate and her suspension might be lifted or duration reduced .
fergie001:
1. Don't let anybody deceive you.... Natasha never sued Akpabio on alleged sexual harassment. She sued Akpabio for statement made by his legislative aide for defamation. The aide had said Natasha dresses seductively, with transparent outfits and is all about pancakes. The only action she has taken against Akpabio is that petition before the NASS.

2. There is a Court order barring the ethics committee from taking any action against Natasha. The Court insisted that they shouldn't convene on that matter. The ethics committee has met against court order and without Natasha present. The Court is supposed to meet tomorrow on this, so the Senate should have put their position in Court and I believe the Court will quash that order.
So they have done two wrong things:
1. They have taken action in disobedience to Court order.
2. They have denied the Senator fair hearing.

What I think will happen:....
- The Court will take a very decisive position.
- The Senate will find a way to bring Natasha back after 2 weeks.
- The Ethics Committee and Akpabio will bow to pressure, receive the petition and that's the last we will hear from it.

The pressure is on Akpabio and if he doesn't use his head, he will be disposable to Aso Rock.

In a functioning society, Akpabio would have stepped aside by now to allow for an investigation into the matter. If found innocent, he would return to his seat as Senate President. But if Natasha were found guilty, she would be removed from the Senate, recalled by her constituents, and replaced by another representative.

You have to respect Saraki for his steadfastness to resist the same harassment that was directed against him.

OEPHIUS:
It is no longer news that Nigeria’s Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio is set to decamp to the APC; what started has a rumour after his notable absence from the PDP NEC meeting has gathered so much momentum as the former Governor yesterday paid a visit to President Buhari in London.

The defection which seems very likely as Senator Akpabio has failed to release a statement against the rumors, comes as a shock to even the most assuming political analysts and journalists especially at a time when the main opposition party, the PDP has put its house in order and is set to welcome even more decampees from the disintegrating APC.

THE FACTS.

A closer look at the Akwa Ibom politician reveals a weak grasp in his home state of Akwa Ibom where he has been continuously hounded and blackmailed by President Buhari led APC administration over several allegations of corruption.

In 2015, The EFCC ran investigations on Akpabio which led to his subsequent arrest over a misappropriation of N101.8 billion state funds which plunged Akwa Ibom state into debt. The former Governor was not charged to court and resumed his duties in the floor of the senate.

In another report, the former Governor was probed again for gifting an unnamed commercial bank the sum of N1.4billion. Another case that was recorded but not taken to court.

The APC led Federal Government hounding of Senator Akpabio was so severe that the Akwa Ibom Government House was invaded by DSS agents in a plot to steal state secrets in an attempt to acquire more evidence against former Governor Akpabio.

In 2016, Senator Akpabio was arrested for a 3rd time by the EFCC when the Anti-graft commission alleged the illegal withdrawal of N18bn to the acquisition of a multi billion naira mansion at Plot 5, Okogosi Spring Close, off Katsina-Ala Crescent, Maitama-Abuja, a multi-billion naira mansionette at Plot 28 Colorado Close, Maitama, Abuja and another multi-billion naira mansion at 22 Probyn Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. For the 3rd time Senator Akpabio was released and no legal charges were filed.

JOINING THE APC

Since 2015, the once vibrant politician lost his voice and failed woefully to provide proper leadership as minority leader in the senate due to the subsequent media backlash against his person and the corruption allegations being thrown around his name.

While other Senators like Bukola Saraki faced all allegations and politically motivated persecution head on, Akpabio may have opted to quietly plead and “settle” with his blackmailers at the expense of the senate, his party, his political career and now ultimately, the people of Akwa Ibom State.

The Anti Corruption War

A move largely perceived as desperate, Akpabio’s defection to APC puts the final coffin to President Buhari’s anti corruption war. It further confirms the long assumed ideology that the APC is a party of protected corruption, where the members and high rollers of corruption in Nigeria are immune from persecution. Senator Akpabio’s rich history of corruption and corrupt allegations is set to be magically swept under the rug.

The same Government that hounded Akpabio, arrested him several times and invaded his former office with DSS agents to get evidence against him have thrown their arms wide open to receive him in their fold. Whether Akpabio was threatened to join the APC or not, it will go down in history that he was a subdued man.

Buhari’s infamous integrity has failed the litmus test with Akpabio. The Nigerian President who prides himself as incorruptible has thrown caution to the wind and made Senator Akpabio, one of the most corrupt persons in Nigeria according to President Buhari’s EFCC to be the Apple of the APC’s eye.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Senator Godswill Akpabio’s corruption allegations have long been in the wind perhaps as hard evidence which has been used recently to blackmail the former Governor. Perhaps enough evidence to get a conviction at the court which would see Akpabio off to prison. However; with the new turn of events, Akpabio who has been alleged to have his eyes on the prized seat of Senate President, may begin to enjoy the peace of mind that comes as he is no longer a perceived threat to the President Buhari administration, perhaps at the expense of his own political goodwill.

The Senate President, Sexual Harassment, and the Hypocrisy Against Lecturers

In recent years, Nigerian lecturers have been vilified, scapegoated, and subjected to intense scrutiny under the guise of moral purification. The National Assembly went as far as passing a law prescribing severe punishment for any lecturer accused of harassment—ensuring that even mere courtship with a student could lead to dire consequences. This legislative aggression cast lecturers as the primary culprits of moral decadence in higher institutions, making it seem as though no other sector in Nigeria had issues with abuse of power or exploitation.

Yet, today, the very same National Assembly finds itself entangled in a sexual harassment scandal of the highest order. Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has come forward with damning allegations that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, harassed her. This is not an isolated incident—he was similarly accused by the former head of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) when he was a minister.

This raises a crucial question: What moral standing does Akpabio, and indeed the Senate as an institution, have to legislate on morality when its own leader is facing accusations of sexual misconduct?

If a lecturer, regardless of proof, is presumed guilty and subjected to severe punishment based on mere allegations, why should different standards apply to the Senate President? Shouldn’t Akpabio, in line with the principles of fairness and accountability, immediately step aside for an independent investigation and potential prosecution?

The credibility of governance is on the line. The Nigerian people are watching. If Akpabio is allowed to remain in office while facing these serious allegations, it only confirms what many already suspect—that power in Nigeria is a shield for impunity, and laws are designed only for the weak, not the powerful.

If the National Assembly truly believes in justice, then it must demand Akpabio’s resignation pending the outcome of an investigation. Anything less would be outright hypocrisy.

The same Senate that swiftly passed a law demonizing lecturers must now demonstrate consistency. The moral cleansing they so eagerly pursued must begin at home. If justice is truly blind, then Akpabio must face the same scrutiny and consequences they have imposed on others.

The choice before the Senate is clear: uphold justice or expose itself as an institution of double standards.
