curiobling:And you think with this statement you are smart ?Do you know the reason Anti freeze is used in the west ??Besides the coolant you buy is meant to be mixed with water that is if you bought an original Coolant. You can check if you bought an original one by simply putting it in the freezer, if it freezes, you bought rubbish, it is not meant to freeze. In the Nigerian factor the only benefit of antifreeze/Coolant is corrosion and less likely to evaporate due to overheating. So Bross, once you have that 1ltre of the blue stuff, the rest is water. |

erico2k2:that corrosion was the reason and anti boil. I bought OEM bro You mean in your experience, water is what FORD advised you to mix with concentrated coolant to get your 50/50 ? |
| Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by 9icetoo(m): 3:06pm On Mar 10, 2025 |
erico2k2:And he is right. Most tap water are hard water. They leave deposits behind when they evaporate. Distilled or demin water is preferred as it won't leave deposits behind which will ultimately clog up your radiator or cooling system or exercabate corrosion. I agree with you on the coolant thing though. |
| Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by erico2k2(m): 3:07pm On Mar 10, 2025 |
curiobling:Answer is yes all 50/50 means 50% concentrate and 50% water Check here https://automotivenerd.com/does-coolant-have-to-be-50-50-explained/ |

9icetoo:In the US and UK yes we have hard water due to the treatment given to Tap water, however in Nigeria there is no Hard water from chlorine have fresh water hence we can drink it direct when its clean, In Nigeria check your electric kettle there is no scales in it that's the hardness we get in the west where you have to descale you kettle every now and then. Buying Distilled water i waste of money, if you are really kin just boil your water and collect steam condescends |

erico2k2:I hope nobody staying on the Island in Lagos or any other place with such water takes this advice from you. |
| Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by erico2k2(m): 4:52pm On Mar 10, 2025 |
jceesquare:The problem with you lot is this, you assume, even when someone is trying hard to enlighten you on a basic thing as Hard water GO AND DO THE RESEARCHAND FIND OUT WHAT hard water means.HARD WATER FORMS SCALE WHEN BOILED, DO those living in Lagos have to Descale their kettles Bro use google man, this conversation is degrading at this point no pons meant but this is basic science.Let me help you here since you are too lazy to searchWith hard water, soap solutions form a white precipitate (soap scum) instead of producing lather, because the 2+ ions destroy the surfactant properties of the soap by forming a solid precipitate (the soap scum). A major component of such scum is calcium stearate, which arises from sodium stearate, the main component of soap: 2 C17H35COO− (aq) + Ca2+ (aq) → (C17H35COO)2Ca (s) Hardness can thus be defined as the soap-consuming capacity of a water sample, or the capacity of precipitation of soap as a characteristic property of water that prevents the lathering of soap. Synthetic detergents do not form such scums. Hard water also forms deposits that clog plumbing. These deposits, called "scale", are composed mainly of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2), and calcium sulfate (CaSO4).[3] Calcium and magnesium carbonates tend to be deposited as off-white solids on the inside surfaces of pipes and heat exchangers. This precipitation (formation of an insoluble solid) is principally caused by thermal decomposition of bicarbonate ions but also happens in cases where the carbonate ion is at saturation concentration.[9] The resulting build-up of scale restricts the flow of water in pipes. In boilers, the deposits impair the flow of heat into water, reducing the heating efficiency and allowing the metal boiler components to overheat. In a pressurized system, this overheating can lead to the failure of the boiler.[10] The damage caused by calcium carbonate deposits varies according to the crystalline form, for example, calcite or aragonite.[11] |

erico2k2:Why bring gun to a knife fight? Would you advise anyone staying where they have larger concentration of salt water to add it to their radiator? |
| Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by erico2k2(m): 7:37pm On Mar 10, 2025 |
jceesquare:This was the reason I said Tap water, do you have salt water running from TAps? answer NO, The problem with Lekki is Ammonia contamination with ground water hence the rotten Egg smell. and to your question the answer is NO. the 50/50 ready mix is water plus concentrate, clean water. But I'm sure you got the gist now though. In Nigeria too much fake, I will trust mixing water with concentrate in my Engine instead of 50/50 ready Mix, I don't know what Nigerians had mixed. I bought 20 ltr of Concentrate from the UK,I use it for al my car PS regards bringing gun to a knife fight that was funny I am a fluid Engineer so this is my bread and butter if that makes any sense. |

erico2k2:Bro, I cannot argue with you but to learn from your knowledge. You appeared rich in knowledge if you are truly a chemical expert. So now because of you, I will stop wasting my money buying distilled water due to your analysis. I will just take water from tap and mix my imported from UAE concentrated coolant next time. Intact, I really appreciate your doing justice to this findings |
| Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by curiobling: 3:02pm On Mar 11, 2025 |
erico2k2:@erico2k2, reading through this link, the author keep advising the need to mix with distilled water, i beleive this is because of the type of water found in the US and UK. So how long have you been diluting your 20ltrs original concentrated coolant you bought in the UK with Nigeria chlorine rich tap water and what's the condition of your car so far |

Good day, bosses! I'm getting obsessed with detailing my car’s interior these days. How do I clean the dust (check attached image) in my car? Where can I get a decent vacuum cleaner for vacuuming dirt and dust in my car? And finally, what are other items/tools I can use for detailing my interior, and, most importantly, where can I get them in Nigeria?

curiobling:ANother assumption from you there, where on Earth did you learn that Nigerian Tap water which is rated very clean has Chlorine? YOu seem not to Understand what Chlorine is. FYI Chlorine is a chemical element with the symbol Cl and atomic number 17. It is a toxic, greenish-yellow gas at room temperature and is part of the halogen group in the periodic table. Chlorine is widely used for water disinfection, helping to kill harmful microorganisms in drinking water and swimming pools, and it also serves as a bleaching agent in various industrial processes From this knowledge upstairs you can gather that Chlorine is in the US and UK waters not your Bore hole in Nigeria hence Distilled water is advised in those place, I realy hope this makes sense. |

Richhard:Bross U need to start with your cabin air filter. |
| Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by 9icetoo(m): 9:09pm On Mar 11, 2025 |
erico2k2:And yes, scales form in kettles and pressing irons and boilers over here. Tap water over here comes from mainly boreholes and comes with dissolved minerals which precipitate out when the water is boiled and or oxygenated. Some of the "tap" water here also have iron which leave reddish to brownish deposits when exposed to the atmosphere. The problem is that you assume hardness only comes from treated water from water corporations. There are places in nigeria where the borehole water is naturally hard (ebonyi, kogi etc). Distilled water or demin water will do just fine for mixing and when in a pinch can be run straight in the cooling system. Granted, the anti corrosion properties aren't there but it won't leave deposits that will clog up the system. That's the crux of the whole discussion. Seems you are a grad of chemistry or chem eng. |
| Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by erico2k2(m): 9:23pm On Mar 11, 2025 |
9icetoo:Another Assumption, The word Hard water is being used loosely here lol. I think you need to go back to my earlier explanation of what hard water means. There most be Gypsum and Limestone present. These react with natural water to form calcium /chlorine which hardens water. I did put the equilibrium equation in my other post up there. If you are a chemistry student you can write an equation to soften the water. Im a fluid Engineer, not a chemical Engineer. PS, think of soapy water. |

Can anyone here recommend water air pressure nozzle that works fine which can flush and rinse car properly. I have bought less air pressure guns that I have abandoned due to poor performance. Preferably battery powered washer is welcome. |

Any recommendation for a dashcam? And most importantly where to get it? |
| Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by sammily(m): 8:57pm On Mar 12, 2025 |
curiobling:My little advise to you, don't use tap water on your radiator or tubular batteries, better stick to distilled water or carefully collect air-conditional water and use. |

sammily:I have not been using tap water before o my brother, but because of his proven analysis and how he said he's been using tap water from Nigeria to mix his UK purchased concentrated 20LTR coolant got me tempted to |
