Honestly, one of the reasons I will never return to live in Nigeria isn’t just about money. The quality of life for the money you earn is very low. In Nigeria, you’ll see rich people boasting with designer brands, using it to show that they have “arrived.” “Oh, I buy my clothes from H&M, I buy my clothes from Zara, I only wear originals,” and all that. But the funny thing is, those same designer clothes are very cheap here. H&M, Zara, and other well-known brands are affordable, even for people earning minimum wage. If you want, you can buy designer clothes every month without breaking the bank. Meanwhile, in Nigeria, those same clothes will cost millions, and sellers will hype them up, saying they’re “imported.” The real joke is that when these brands go on sale, they’re discounted by 75-80%. You can get a nice designer T-shirt for about 5,000 pesos (around 8,000 naira) and quality designer jeans for about 20,000 naira. What I don’t understand is that I had family members in Canada and the U.S. while growing up, and whenever they sent us clothes, they were always torn, tattered, and worn out. But now that I’m in Chile, if I ever travel back to Nigeria, even if I decide to go for second-hand clothes, I can easily fill up two Ghana-must-go bags with just 300,000 pesos worth of quality clothes. And yet, these same people will be telling us to stay back in Nigeria, claiming that “abroad is hard.” Well, I’m here now, and I can tell you abroad isn’t what they make it seem from Nigeria |

Any decision you want to take in this life, always take it. Never hesitate to take it. I heard from the Nigerian WhatsApp group in Chile that Brazil now requires a transit visa to pass. Two Nigerian priests who were coming to Chile were turned back to Nigeria at the Brazilian airport. There are two ways to come to Chile from Nigeria. One is to transit through Europe, mostly Spain, but Spain will not give you a transit visa. The rejection rate is almost 99 percent. The other way is to transit through Brazil. When I came here, you didn’t need a Brazilian transit visa as long as you remained within the airport, but things changed drastically last year, and a Brazilian visa isn’t easy to get anymore. I know people who have applied for a visa for six months and have not had a single update. Leaving Nigeria is getting harder each passing year and the funny thing is that your Chilean residency starts counting from the day it’s approved in Nigeria and not the day you get into Chile |

One thing I love about my car is the safety features that activate while driving, especially when switching lanes or reversing. It alerts you when a car is approaching the lane you want to move into and when there’s an obstacle, a child, or a pedestrian behind you. These features make driving feel much safer and more controlled. However, one thing I absolutely hate is the auto start-stop feature. If you’re in traffic and have to wait, the engine shuts off, and the moment you release the brake, it starts back up again. I find it so frustrating. |

But Zara and H&M aren’t designers. They’re not even mid range. Why are sellers in Nigeria calling them designers and ripping people off? Even Coach, Michael kors, Kate Spade etc that sell for around $300-$500 are not designers either. I think they’re just misusing terms probably due to not understanding the fashion market. Then add greed and it becomes a clusterfk. tensazangetsu20: |
