Is it not the Man who has been indicted for the Mambilla Power Plant scam.

Even a two (2) year old politically conscious knows where this is coming from.

Why didn't the Party have issues for the last twenty years or more.

Anybody that say El-rufai is a featherweight has to have his head re-examined.

Of what political value has Olu Agunloye added since he became secretary ?

This pattern is becoming outdated Mr. Agunloye, and it's also too early.

There are 2 possible reasons why they want to remove Dr Olu Agunloye. You'll figure out the reasons if you know who he is.

naptu2:
Professor Wole Soyinka brought the idea of creating a road safety corp. He had been inspired by Dr Taiye Solarin, who had organised students to put in place road safety measures on an expressway on which many students had been killed by cars.

President Ibrahim Babangida bought the idea and made Professor Soyinka the first chairman of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

People initially hailed the agency. They said that Professor Soyinka brought a lot of his boys into the agency, they were graduates and they could not be bribed.

One of the people that Professor Soyinka brought into the FRSC was one of his proteges, Dr Olu Agunloye and he became the Corps Marshal (chief executive) of the agency.

Dr Agunloye was corps marshal from 1988 till 1994 when he began having problems with General Sani Abacha (I can't remember if it was because his mentor, Wole Soyinka, had issues with Abacha). I believe Dr Agunloye was detained and accused of being involved in some kind of plot.

Anyway, Nigeria returned to civil rule and President Olusegun Obasanjo made Dr Agunloye his minister of state for defence (navy) and then minister for power and steel.

Now here's the relevant part.

The Mambilla Power Plant was planned in the late 1970s and early 1980s when we had oil money. It was supposed to be the biggest power plant in Nigeria. In fact, it is so big that it is supposed to solve all our power problems. Part of the dam was built during the Shagari era. Then Nigeria suffered a financial crisis and the project was abandoned.

A few years ago President Olusegun Obasanjo said that Dr Olu Agunloye brought a proposal by a foreign company to build and operate the power plant (the proposal had earlier been brought by Agunloye's predecessor), but Obasanjo told him to bring the proposal to the Federal Executive Council meeting and also bring a comparison between the Mambilla project (which is a hydro project) and a coal fired power plant.

President Obasanjo said that Dr Agunloye never brought the proposal to any FEC meeting and so it was never approved. He said that he is ready to testify against Dr Agunloye anywhere and any time.

Dr Agunloye claimed that Obasanjo approved the deal.

The problem is that Nigeria seriously needs power from that dam, so at various times Yar'Adua, Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari had tried to resume the project, but the company, Sunrise, had sued and demanded compensation. They claimed that Obasanjo cancelled their contract, but Obasanjo said that neither he nor FEC approved any contract.

In fact, the Buhari Administration had reached a deal for the Chinese to fund the construction of the dam and power plant, but Sunrise blocked it.

The Buhari Administration (led by Professor Osinbajo) suspected that there were some kind of corrupt practices behind the whole thing, so it got the EFCC to investigate. The CEO of Sunrise and Dr Agunloye were being tried in Nigeria for corruption.

Dr Agunloye was granted bail and well. . .
Basically (1) Dr Agunloye was involved in the 1990s pro-democracy movement and is a protege of Professor Wole Soyinka and (2) he is involved in the Mambilla power scandal.

It is expected.. the power hungry hyenas will try all in their power to gain control of their new darling SDP and fix their loyalists in key positions e.g. national chiarman, party secretary etc.
SDP will turn to another LP.. special purpose vehicles for power mongers to ride on.
They knew he was plotted in SDP by one drug lord and masters of Strategies.. so, it's part of the Strategy of this same lord for the secretary to start making Early noise B4 his secret is open.. Just tell your paymaster to get his buckles up, coz this time he will have to fight his friends who has turned enemies not the citizens.

Plenty problems for elrufai. So they don't know the owner of SDP before running to decamp to the party
Good question

If they can't manage this well, can they be trusted to handle bigger and more complex issues?

I usually tell people that politics and governance are not easy. If you're in doubt, just set up a WhatsApp group of about 200 members and put up rules.

Tinubu government is not even democratic.
Rule of law is still low.
Human rights not respected yet

The citizens are suffering the worst times.

Tinubu must be unreelected.

Because you can't trust them that the policy is even still gonna work eventually

It is already a special purpose vehicle. That's the whole point. It takes too long to register another party, too long to build brand and too expensive to set up qualifying national structures. Why not just hijack one? After all that is what one group did in the last election.

Not sure El Rufia is at all interested in the Presidential election at all. The whole and entire point is Kaduna, Uba Sani, (2027) and Ribadu in 2031.

Why don’t you also mention APC, which was the special purpose vehicle for clueless, pseudo progressive power mongers to ride on 10 years ago when they changed PDP prosperity into extreme poverty shege with more corruption and insecurity.[/quote]Then let's see if the same strategy will work for SDP come 2027. El Rufai is not in the same master class as Tinubu (not his fan) when it comes to Nigeria politicking.

Was the first comment I replied, about politicking master class strategy or about governance failure of power mongers, since you are not Tinubu’s fan huh

You can that question yourself. You are a chief minister of class politics on Nairaland.

I have made my own observation, 2027 will determine its truism.

Tinubu is going nowhere if those opposed to his clueless government are divided and disunited by their ambitions.

What role do ordinary citizens (who bear the greatest burden of APC's poverty-enhancing policies) have in making the opposition united for a return to prosperity huh

Any difference between him and other politicians huh

If all our leaders looters are not thieves, why should our country be such a mess that exports its resources and even its people to neocolonial countries for voluntary japa, unlike those who we sold into slavery for mirrors, tobacco, alcohol, umbrellas etc huh

anonimi:
The often cited biography titled Madame Tinubu: Merchant and King-maker, authored by Nigerian historian Oladipo Yemitan, paints her views regarding slave trading.

On one occasion, during her final sojourn in Abeokuta, she was alleged to have sold a young boy into slavery and was accused of it. When arraigned before Ogundipe Alatise over the matter, she reportedly explained: 'I have a large house-hold and I must feed them well. I need money to do that, that's why'.

— Oladipo. Yemitan, 'Madame Tinubu: Merchant and King-maker'

Another section of Yemitan's Tinubu biography, referred to as the Amadie-Ojo Affair, captures a slave trading deal gone sour in 1853 (notably after the 1852 Treaty abolishing slavery in Lagos) wherein Tinubu tells another slave trader (Domingo Martinez) that "she would rather drown the slaves [20 in number] than sell them at a discount".
