Prospect of a possible alliance between the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN and Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, was dashed yesterday in Kano as the leader of the party and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu described CPC as parading “expired leadership.”

Tinubu told ACN supporters in Kano during the party’s Presidential rally that: “What Nigerians need now is a transformation in leadership” as obtained in the advanced economy.

The two-term Governor of Lagos State explained that the leadership of ACN was offering Nigeria the brilliance of Nuhu Ribadu who, he said, is in the class of Nicolas Sarkozi of France, David Cameron of Britain, Medvedev of Russia and Barack Obama of the United States of America.

“What has CPC got to offer? We certainly don’t need expired leadership as we are offering the best in terms of brilliance, courage and patriotism in the class of Sarkozi of France, David Cameron of Britain and Barack Obama of the USA.”

Tinubu’s position came on the heels of Ribadu’s declaration penultimate week in Kaduna when he hinted during a political rally of a joint ticket between the two opposition parties to confront the dominance of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Even when herdsmen killed Mrs Funke Olakunrin, daughter of the leader of the apex Lukumi-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasorantin, Asiwaju remained steadfast in his support for General Buhari.

And when he was slapped in the face by the Quisling, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who bit the finger that fed him and challenged the big masquerade that made him, Asiwaju did not blame General Buhari.

Since becoming President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not uttered one word of criticism against his predecessor, even though there were sordid revelations that would have caused another leader to question the preceding government.

Therefore, it is appropriate that President Buhari cast his lot with the incumbent President rather than with a man who President Obasanjo described as having "an inability to be loyal to anybody or any issue consistently for long, but only to Nasir el-Rufai."

I was wrong about General Buhari. He can be honourable and has demonstrated the courage of his convictions. If he had thrown his weight behind Nasir el-Rufai, it would have given that payer of killer herdsmen the ability to be a thorn in the flesh of the Tinubu administration.

It's a small world because of deep family ties among people, so, Reno has to remember that.

Yemi Osinbajo did nothing wrong by contesting in that APC Presidential primaries. It only made the race exciting. Period.

How exactly is it that Reno thinks that Tinubu's spinelessness and cowardice something commendable? Fulani herdsmen killed the daughter of a top Yoruba leader, an attack Buhari as president did not even address nor even condole the family on. Yet Reno thinks that in choosing to keep silent, Tinubu should be commended?

I can understand he needs to kiss ass and maybe foot pressing bills but this is beyond the pale.

Nothing to see here. By 2027, he'll be here to tell us he was wrong about Tinubu if he losses the election. Wendell Simlin and the Lukumi people have a lot in common. Very flexible "shape shifters". A match made in heaven indeed!

Elrufai never claimed Buhari has left the APC. Agbadorians are already congratulating themselves for having won the election in 2027. They are now relying on Buhari’s support but we all saw the outcome of "Buhari’s support" to Tinubu in 2023, especially in Katsina. Northerners who voted Tinubu in 2023 did so inspite of Buhari and not because of Buhari. Tinubu has further reduced that number by alienating the man who contributed immensely to that.

Even if Tinubu loses the election in 2027, the APC can still continue to exist and Buhari would still be a member of the party. The undeniable fact is that majority of the North has parted ways with the party and Buhari cannot salvage that. At least, Agbadorians can no longer accuse Buhari of anything if Tinubu ends up losing the election. Unlike in 2023, there will be no 5.6m northern votes waiting for him to come and collect. How you know Tinubu's re-election chances are threatened is that the current rancour in the political space is between the APC and former APC. The real and traditional opposition figures have not even joined the conversation yet.
