RIVERS JUDICIARY FIGHTS BACK AS CHIEF JUDGE CONVENES LATE-NIGHT MEETING

...Moves To Constitute Investigative Panel

The constitutional crisis in Rivers State has deepened as the Judiciary moves to assert its independence amid what it perceives as a calculated attempt by the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly to interfere with judicial authority.

During a plenary session held earlier today, Amaewhule and his colleagues petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS), calling for an investigation of Chief Judge over allegations of false age declaration. The development has raised legal and ethical concerns, given that the same legislators had previously screened and confirmed the Chief Judge during the Wike administration.

In response, the Chief Judge convened an emergency judicial council meeting late last night, where key deliberations centered on safeguarding the Judiciary from external intimidation and preserving the doctrine of separation of powers.

A highly placed judicial source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that a resolution was reached to constitute an investigative panel to probe alleged misconduct by members of the Amaewhule-led Assembly and certain LGA chairmen who served under the Wike administration. The scope of the inquiry is expected to cover allegations of cult-related activities, perjury, and other breaches of the law for which several Assembly members have been implicated.

Rumours of the anticipated probe has sent shockwaves through the Assembly, with reports indicating that some lawmakers, particularly those who recently returned from abroad, may be making hurried plans to leave the country to evade scrutiny.

Judicial officers present at the meeting reportedly reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the rule of law and resisting any form of legislative overreach. As the legal battle line is drawn, all eyes are now on the Judiciary’s next steps in ensuring accountability and maintaining institutional integrity in Rivers State.

When they fight you and you don't fight back, you will be giving your opponent an undue advantage over you.

The Rivers State government under his Excellency Governor Sim Fubara has been on the defensive instead of been offensive , that is what has emboldened the legislative rascality, high-handedness, and unreasonable behavior of Martin's Amaehule led assembly and utmost disrespect to the office of the governor. I think his Excellency needs some crash course from Godwin Obaseki, when he dealt with the house assembly loyal to Oshiomole. Good move though from the CJ of Rivers State

The House of Assembly should stay clear of the Judiciary.

The Judiciary and NBA have a mechanism to address any concern within the judiciary and not the DSS.

The HOA is emboldened by the fact the OCJ Okocha can influence the NJC as he had done in previous cases concerning wike. Wike's fall will be massive. He talks too much and he talks carelessly. He behaves as if he fell directly from heaven. All his life people have helped him to climb the ladder. Before he became gov he prostrated before mama peace but today he is insulting patience Jonathan's ancestors.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State in the 2023 general elections, Tonye Cole, has described as a declaration of war, the locking out of Governor Siminalayi Fubara by the state assembly.

Cole, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Sahara Group, said the lawmakers, by their action, were indirectly telling the governor he had no powers.

This nzogbu nzogbu politics you guys are pushing Fubara to embark on will be to his ruins. Nigerian politics is beyond what you see. The only problem here is that Sim doesn't have the political experience to navigate this tide. Guyman for wait after his second term inauguration before he picks a fight with Wike. Now Wike wants to leverage on his investment in Fubara and you think Wike will take it easy on Fubara? That's Nigerian politics for you.

Did obaseki wait for 2nd term before fighting oshiomhole? Politics isn't always black and white. If Ngige had waited for his 2nd term to fight the ubas, do you know he'd have ended up worse than mbadinuju. Now, you can't count accomplished politicians from southeast without mentioning Ngige. But how many would remember mbadinuju?

Okponu blogger,go to proper school you people won't, everybody wants to be a reporter or blogger.
The judiciary, even if it's the Supreme court has no power to constitute any sort of inquiry to investigate anyone, even if it's a mad man.
Theirs is to interpret the law and make judgement on any case brought before them.
It's only the executive or assembly that can constitute any sort of inquiry or panel into any branch of government.
keep on displaying your ignorance here. All the corruption that was perfected during wike 8 years administration will be investigated. A panel has been constituted on that regard. Keep on displaying your hypocrisy here

The Chief Judge should honourably resign now or be disgraced out of office and prosecuted. This is unbecoming of the judiciary, which he has turned into a joke in the state. For someone who had surrendered his powers to the governor, what does he know about separation of powers? What a shame!

Shey Judges fit fight politicians? This judge wants to be stripped nakked at the market square. Even former Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen was stripped nakked at the market square, not to talk of one clown in Rivers.

I fthis fight didnt achieve anything it has reveal the true population and position of the Ijaws. Ijaw is only majority in Bayelsa. And they are no more than 2.5m person in Nigeria. This is a big liberation to other ethnic groups that make up the Niger Delta.
The aim of this fight at some point was impeachment. Now strategy has changed to natural attrition I wish you knew the meaning.

They boxed Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara into a tight corner, expecting him to lose his mind and act recklessly thereby causing chaos and anarchy in Rivers State so they could have enough reason to either impeach him or declare a state of emergency. But Fubara is smarter. His decision not only to accept the Supreme Court judgment but also to show a convincing willingness to represent the budget to the Amaewhule-led House is a masterstroke.

The same people who wickedly gave him a 48-hour ultimatum to present the budget no longer want him to present it. They had assumed Fubara would be unwilling, but he beat them at their own game. Now, they have gone on recess without announcing a date to reconvene. They have shown they are cowards and enemies of the state and sooner than later the real owners of the state(the people) whom they set out to punish by their dirty politics will come for their heads.

When I wrote earlier that Fubara is not the weakling many label him to be, some people didn’t see what I saw. Granted, the Supreme Court judgment was against Fubara, but by his actions since then, he has made it seem as if it played to his strength. He has also exposed to the public the true intentions of Wike and his boys. The FCT minister and his boys had asked the governor to obey the court judgment and Fubara wittingly agreed with them and now they don't want the governor to present the budget to them as ordered by the Supreme Court. Funny characters.

Fubara understands that as the Chief Security Officer of the state, he cannot engage in actions that endanger the lives and property of his people. He is demonstrating strength of character. The average Nigerian governor would have made the state uninhabitable for the FCT minister and his errand "honorable" boys, which is what most Nigerians expected and still expect Fubara to do. But he has not done that and might never do it. Instead, what he has done, which is far more important, is to ensure peace in the state, win the support of the people, and dismantle the booby trap set by his detractors.
