Many people give their Zakat in Ramadaan to maximize their rewards. Here’s a guide on what types of wealth require Zakat (note, this is for zakat from the 5 pillars of Islam and nit zakatul fitr):

📌 Four Categories of Zakatable Wealth:
1️⃣ Crops & Fruits 🌾
Zakat is due on grains and fruits that are stored & consumed.
Rate:
- 10% if watered naturally (rain, rivers).
- 5% if irrigated using machines or effort.

2️⃣ Livestock (Camels, Cows, Sheep) 🐪🐄🐏
- Zakat applies only if they graze freely for most of the year.
- No zakat on animals that are fed manually unless they are for trade.

3️⃣ Gold, Silver, & Cash 💰
Modern money (naira, dollars, pounds, riyals, etc.) is included.
Nisab (minimum threshold):
- Silver standard: Equivalent of 612.36 grams of silver in your currency (₦1,103,258) to get nisaab
- Gold standard: Equivalent of 87.48 grams of gold in your currency (₦12,147,360.00) to get nisaab

Zakat Formula:
Total amount above nisaab (held for at least 1 hijri year) ÷ 40 = Zakat amount (2.5%)
- Example: ₦13,951,202 ÷ 40 = ₦348,780 Zakat to pay
- Example: ₦1,103,258 ÷ 40 = ₦27,581 Zakat to pay

4️⃣ Trade Goods 🛒
Zakat applies to business inventory (goods bought for sale).
- Rate: 2.5% of their market value at year-end.
- No Zakat on store assets like buildings, shelves, and tools.
