1. Did U apply alone or with Ur hubby or daughter
2.Do U have any scholarship at the moment?

DBlessedofGod:
Hello everyone,
I have been a silent reader on this thread for years now. I just want to share my experience here to help one or two people who might need some level of encouragement.

I must thank the great minds here for a wonderful job well done in keeping this forum going .

I applied for F1 visa Jan 2020 to travel with my daughter back then but was denied (Lagos embassy) on grounds of no family tie.

It was on my birthday and I was really devastated because I was tired of my previous place of work and couldn't wait to resign and japa.

So the motive then was just to japa lolzz. I was really broken so much so I gave up on my dreams to ever travel. Chai US visa denial has a way of messing up ones mind ooooo. I didn't even bother looking at my passport again sef for years.

Left my organization and Started a business with my hubby same 2020,and to the glory of God business is doing well.

Fast forward 2024 I felt it was time to try again.
I reached out to the same school I applied to previously (Texas A & M university, Commerce) I applied for MBA with minor. Previously I applied for M.sc Marketing. I got admitted immediately (15th Nov, 2024) since my documents with them was still valid.

My i20 was sent on the 24th of January,2025 after submitting my POF documents to my school.
Paid visa fee (first bank) 28th of January
Got to pre approval stage 30th January
Pre approval approved 31st January
Date I got for interview was 3/2/2026 (meanwhile my start date is in August)
Rescheduled for emergency appointment 31st of January
Emergency appointment approved 3rd of February and got a date for 13th of March 2025.
Paid for sevis thru Walspring (God bless this guy for me abundantly) 10th of March. It reflected within 3 hours. He was the one who also helped me to pay in 2020

Yesterday was my interview (Lagos embassy) I got there 5.30am my time slot was for 6.30. The interview started 7.30am lots of denial flying right, left and centre. And to God alone be the glory I was approved yesterday.

My honest advice is first of all make sure it's God's plan, place and time for you travel cos once it's His plan everything works for you.

Oh yes this time around I prayed more, I was more prepared and more composed (visa officers are trained to sense desperation). I also went thru videos of ex officers advice on YouTube, for me that was really helpful.

Pls if u are going for your interview be prepared to answer and elaborate on questions asked. At some point e come be like say me and the visa officer (a white lady) come dey argue lolzzzz

I just give God all the glory for all He did all the way.

I wish everyone here God's speed and ease in Jesus mighty name

I got admission for PhD in supply chain to two universities in US with tuition waiver and graduate assistantship . What is next stage ? One of the Universities, University of Wisconsin has sent admission letter that shows the tuition waiver and $23.000 per year for graduate assistantship . I just got a mail from the second university yesterday , university of Rhode Island that department has recommended me for admission . Although still waiting for the admission letter .
Congratulations brother. Accepting the offer on the application portal or via email and then requesting for i-20 should be next. I am hoping for something massive as this too so I am using this your win to console myself and be optimistic I get it.

Hello everyone,

I’d like to seek your advice and hear your opinions. My husband recently received a fully funded PhD scholarship with no deficit, and our family is preparing to travel with him. He will be applying for an F1 visa, while my daughter and I have applied for F2 visas.

According to the school, we need to present proof of $8,000 for myself and our daughter, and we currently have about $12,000 to show. We are expecting our I-20 forms and are also preparing for the visa interview, which we plan to attend together.

If anyone has experience applying at the embassy as a family, I would love to hear how it went and any advice you can share. Your advice will mean a lot to us…thank you in advance.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by welf99: 1:52pm On Mar 14, 2025
It depends on what is quoted on your F2 I-20. My advise for F2 hopefuls is to use personal funds and Sponsor to support your family. But if you can afford it, personal funds is all you need. This must be quoted on your I-20 before it's issued. You could split it 40/60 or 30/70 depends on your deficit capacity. It makes your case much easier during visa interview. Over reliant on a sponsor or spouse funding is a no no.

Chemist4life:
Hi ,but for f2 applicant, what will you advise to write under who is sponsoring the trip

The first time applied with my daughter it was my uncle and self sponsorship I used

1. This time around I applied alone my spouse and children will apply much later

2. No scholarship (cos I didn't even apply for any, the VO asked why I didn't). My husband is my sponsor this time around

Xoxobull:

For question 3, it depends on some factors. Age, number of years with work experience, travel history, etc
zinachidi:
Hi guys.

Three questions please.

1. Can I pay visa fee at First bank with dollars in cash?

2. I heard US have stopped the 6 months wait period for the emergency option if you have been denied with emergency before. So everybody can use emergency only once. Is this true?

3. For POF for F1 which is better?
a) scholarship, personal funds, family or b) same as a) but with employer as well.

Thanks.

Going to Naija Embassy with M Power loan as pof is never advisable. There are several other better options that you can explore. How much is your deficit?
Lagzyl1:
Good morning everyone, please I need everyone advice on this.
I live in the UK but want to move to US, I’ve successfully secure admission into Tulane University with 20k scholarship but that’s not enough to cover all my tuition, so therefore I need to submit POF to get 1-120.
Can I use M power loan to get my I-120 and also mention M power at the embassy.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Ziongirl(f): 3:04pm On Mar 14, 2025
Why is mpower loan not advisable.

Genuinely asking. What other options are available please. My deficit is 29k and i got 20k from mpower

thats in Nigeria... its a different ball game in America. even some teaching assistants handling a full course are referred to as professors. so Professor here is just a teacher/master of a particular course.

NiceLegs:
My point exactly.

More reason why they should answer Lecturer and not Professor.

Professor is something you earn from years of hardwork with series of publications to your name after a Ph.D program and not becos i got a lecturing job.

The VOs understand Nigeria economic situation.

So you are taking loan of 50m+ to go to school and come back to work in Nigeria to pay the loan?

It's not feasible with Nigeria wage structure.

Please just go ahead with the first school, don't bother waiting for anything from university of Rhode island. Getting funding from them is difficult, they have been tossing us around since December. Congratulations.

It varies—some are automatic, some require an interview, and others require an application.

Thank you .The director of the Rhode Island University Business school sent a mail to me that he will send the offer letter for assistantship position to me next week . However , I have enough time to accept the offer from University of Wisconsin . The deadline stated in the letter is April 15th .

No go talk this thing for outside. You are talking about hard work, what defines hard work in an academic setting? And who told you it is by old age or years of work they used to answer professor?

Adjunct professors sef carry fire for head, and maybe, just maybe you can compare an adjunct to a lecturer in naija.

Hello people.

I have a question.

I applied for a B1/B2 visa sometime in August 2024 and I was scheduled for interview in June 2025 as shown in my confirmation letter. Now over the course of these months, I have received an admission in to US University. Is it possible to still update my ds-160 to a new visa class (F1) and update some information as well as a lot has happened since then while keeping the initial June 2025 interview date? The reason is if I start afresh, closest date is February 2026 and school is starting July 2025. So I kinda don't want this June 2025 date to waste lol.

I also can't apply for emergency because I have been denied and F1 before in November.

Is this possible or do I just start afresh and look out and hope for a closer date.?

Hello.

Please what are the other options you propose (Family Sponsor)?

I actually plan to combine personal fund (60%) and Mpower (40%) for my I-20. What do you think?
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Godgivenchild: 11:19pm On Mar 16, 2025
Yes, a family sponsor is still the better option, especially if they have a strong travel history. Likewise, having your own travel history will also significantly boost your chances of visa approval.

It depends on the specific requirement of the school regarding pof. For the embassy, don't stress yourself about pof.. they don't really ask /check again. How much is your coa/deficit?
