ChatGPT wrote the lecturers apology letter. Nigerians don't write in this tone
More reason to fire him if confirmed. Most of his academic work may plagiarized then.

AI is making people lazy.

Those of us wey go school in the days of very limited internet access, and had to use physical libraries, do overnight browsing at the cybercafe just to download materials for our projects are better grounded.

These days. the simplest writing tasks are done with AI. Even that one sef, dem no fit apply human sense to make it better.

I recently reviewed some seminar papers and all of them were written with AI but it's understandable cos students like sharp-sharp stress free work.

The first sentence in one of the seminar papers I reviewed went thus;

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of deaths globally.

How do you make such a weighty statement without stating the prevalence number and quoting a reference source?

Also that CVDs in bracket was a dead giveaway that it was AI generated.

I fear for our kids o, I really fear.

Hopefully, Turnitin will continue to keep people honest when it comes to serious academic output.
How different is the advent of AI from other technological leaps in the field of information access?

Was it any different from books becoming democratized, or the world wide web in the 90's to early 2000s?

I think as with most of these other technological leaps, people would with time adjust society to fit with the new normal, and probably the way students get graded would have to evolve. It's a good thing the kids are tapping into AI and these LLM's early enough...those that know what they're doing (and there'd always be) would grow in leaps and bounds.

I was watching a review of the Mac Studio M3 Ultra with 96GB and 1TB (gets up to 128GB/8GB sef) and it was a little sobering realizing that Nigerian's that have need for that level of personal computing fit no pass 10 for the full country and by the time we start trying to latch on, the rest of the world would have completely dominated that field.

Bro, I understand where you coming from.

I support the democratization of information access but I fear academics is one field that may never fully embrace AI. I highlight some reasons below:

The gatekeepers in academics all did it the old-fashioned and difficult way, without AI so they wouldn't want to lower the bar and make it easier for those coming behind.

With dependence on AI comes laziness, a lack of critical thinking & analysis, poor development of problem solving skills which are core requirements in academia (See that Nekede lecturer for example using AI to write a simple apology letter).

Furthermore, plagiarism is rampant in AI generated academic output which is seen as dishonesty, and lack of integrity in academic circles.

Also, AI dey gba many times with inaccurate and misleading information.

AI output depends on the training data, and reflects the perspective of the country it was developed. For example if I were to ask ChatGPT and DeepSeek about Hong Kong, their responses would be tainted with their biases.

Academics is probably the only field that is resisting and actively pushing back against the use of AI by developing and deploying tools to detect AI generated and humanized content. The capabilities of TurnitIn, Copyleaks and other AI content detectors keep getting updated and better on a daily basis.

I hardly use ChatGPT anymore. I use Microsoft copilot because it educates you and gives you links to learn more.

I am not an absolutist. Anything humans can do to make things quicker should be encouraged. What they should do is shift the weighting of degrees more towards multiple frequent exams than homework since AI can do almost any homework now. In our days weighting was like 60-40 between exams and coursework, now they should make it 80-20 or 90-10

The most important thing in all of these ; they have chosen not to speak about it. The question they should all be asking is : WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN ASAKE AND HIS FATHER ?

The guy in this video for example , after talking down on Asake’s mother divorcing the father , praising the father for raising him as a single parent and all…… He admitted Asake bought a Lexus RX SUV for his father shortly after mohbad died and he also attested to the fact that He rented a befitting apartment for the father .

Methinks the logical question anybody should ask is what happened ? How does a son go from buying a car and fixing a house for his father to not picking his calls anymore ? Did they have a fallout none of these people setting ring light don’t know about ?

Are they even sure everything is fine with the boy’s mental health ? I’m saying this because away from the whole father and mother had divorce thingy which is old story , the guy identified with his father up till recently . So what changed ?

All this pull-him-down videos the family and friends are doing now will not favor him nor the family members o. Las las people will cancel him , he will lose his mojo and may go broke . When that happens , the family won’t still be better off for it.

The best is for the elders in their family to find a way to reach out to him through his friends and associates . They should find out what is wrong with him and try to reconcile him with his father

AI is quite different from other technological leaps in history because AI tech is designed to imitate human intelligence with the human brain informing AI design and capability.

There has never been any such tech with this functionality in human history, not even computers or the Internet.

Though AI has immense benefits, if not checked and regulated, it could cause a breakdown of society in the future.

AI deals with intelligence, which is an area that traditionally lies within the domain of the human brain.

Modern civilization is a product of the human brain and intelligence.

Students need to be made to understand this, stressing the harmful effect that overreliance on AI tools can have on critical thinking skills, ingenuity, and creativity.

AI should be only used as a brainstorming tool. Then, AGI and ASI are great threats to humanity.

These are unethical kinds of AI that could make our species become extinct much faster.

Afrodoc2 Good morning.

I did meet with an ENT doctor and he did some assessment and prescribed drugs and advised I stopped taking the one the GOP doc prescribed as it made it worse.

The ringing after two weeks of the meds have reduced significantly but gets a bit louder each time I stress myself. Had an appointment with him and he prescribed more drugs and said I should going for hearing test if it doesn’t stop.

Omooo… All the drugs they have been giving me are very expensive and I plan on moving on and forgetting about it entirely since it doesn’t bother me anymore. I hope nothing wrong with that?

To the best of my knowledge, iphone no dey hot compared to the androids I've used in the past. I've never really been a fan of samsung , so I can't sincerely do comparison between samsung and iphone in terms which phone heats up the most between the two
Finally got the iPhone. True to what you said, it doesn’t get hot. Got the US version after the vendor convinced me I can use all carrier network on it so I can switch to anyone that works best based on my current location.

Generally, it is very impressive, very strong battery life and very fast. But doesn’t have that super clean display that Samsung has. Maybe the screen isn’t amoled display and also doesn’t charge as fast as a Samsung.

Good morning.

I am happy that things are better with regards to the ringing.

What was the diagnosis of the ENT doctor.
What medications did he prescribe?

What medications did he prescribe?
Paracetamol
Unival Diazepam 5mg. ( Taken one hour before bed)
Barole 20 capsules
Fleming 1000 mg antibiotic
Betahistine Dihydrochloride ( this one plenty) and
Neurovit forte.

Yesterday, he added another Barole, then with new ones.
Montral 10 tablets and co-codamol 8 mg/500 mg.

I am already tired of taking all these prescriptions. Omo!! Everyday, morning and night.

1) WHAT WAS HIS DIAGNOSIS

2) For the sake of Chukwu Okike Abiama anytime someone asks you to give the names of your medications please list their generic names and not their brand names. grin

Some of the medications are not looking logical. Knowing what his diagnosis was might help in explaining the rationale for him prescribing them.

That Betahistine is probably the one that gave you the improvement in symptoms.

As a general rule I try to steer clear of Diazepam and Co-Codamol
