1) WHAT WAS HIS DIAGNOSIS

2) For the sake of Chukwu Okike Abiama anytime someone asks you to give the names of your medications please list their generic names and not their brand names. grin

Some of the medications are not looking logical. Knowing what his diagnosis was might help in explaining the rationale for him prescribing them.

That Betahistine is probably the one that gave you the improvement in symptoms.

As a general rule I try to steer clear of Diazepam and Co-Codamol
The joke is naija doctors will prescribe anti biotics for every last thing

He didn’t give a specific diagnosis. He said my ear is clean, but due could be caused by a variety of things. I think he prescribed those meds based off of the symptoms I had. Headache, pain in the throat and neck region.

I have finished taking the Diazepam 3 days ago but the Co-Codamol was given to me yesterday and I took them at night already. Please, what is wrong with both of them?

What is the generic name of Barole and what does it do?

Diazepam is a psychotropic drug. It deals with the brain and very addictive. How long did you take it?

10 days. They said it will help my body relax before sleep. So I only took it one hour before sleeping.

ChatGPT wrote the lecturers apology letter. Nigerians don't write in this tone.
Maybe ChatGPT did for this lecturer, but don't generalize. I've been writing and speaking in very formal wordy tones (even in the course of regular WhatsApp exchanges) for years before OpenAI got its $1 billion funding in 2015, and certainly before the first iteration of ChatGPT in 2022; Including here on Nairaland. My friends and acquaintances write and speak in similar tones too.

I don't know what demography of Nigerians you've been acquiesced with, but a very sizeable number of Nigerians are reputed for having a very rich vocabulary stock; and even more so those in the academia whom this Nekede lecturer is a part of.

Soyinka, Hon. Patrick Obahiaghon and others famous for using seemingly grandiosely formal words aren't outliers or exemptions as I interact with such people everyday.

10 days is okay but people system are different. Incase you start feeling withdrawal symptoms, don't panic and don't take more to calm yourself. Just suffer through it and eventually everything will be okay.

Especially when you specifically defend it till it turns around to cost you something dear to you.

This is sad .😔

I don’t think this is about defending bad governance sef , it’s about people who find a way to always shush others who complain about the comatose state of things in this country .

I say it is not about defending bad governance because I don’t really think the man was defending bad governance going by the initial tweet he made February 12. He just seem like a man who is optimistic to a fault and thinks anybody talking about the inadequacies of the Ebonyi State government is a propagandist paid to discredit the government .

However , when he suffered an irreparable loss which is due to actions and inactions of persons who are employees of the same Ebonyi state government , he now understands that people can actually be victims of the state and can cry about it in the open without being paid opposition propagandist .

I pray his family finds the fortitude to bear the loss . No parent deserve to lose and bury his or her child .

Paracetamol
Unival Diazepam 5mg. ( Taken one hour before bed)
Barole 20 capsules
Fleming 1000 mg antibiotic
Betahistine Dihydrochloride ( this one plenty) and
Neurovit forte.

Yesterday, he added another Barole, then with new ones.
Montral 10 tablets and co-codamol 8 mg/500 mg.

I am already tired of taking all these prescriptions. Omo!! Everyday, morning and night.
You must have complained of ulcer that's why barole was prescribed, it contains rabeprazole 20mg. For the diazepam, i don't know why they are starting with a 10 days duration, 3-5 days duration is sufficient.
The only medication here for ear is the betahistine

Honestly, these set of governors are up and doing but their efforts are being thwarted by FG policies making it look like they're not doing anything. If you're to take a sample from here about the performance governors from different you'd discover this but their efforts are not being felt because of high cost of feeding and transportation.

What is the generic name of Barole and what does it do?
Barole is Rabeprazole used for Gatroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) or Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD). Did you complain of any tummy issues?

The Diazepam is a Benzodiazepine used for short term symptomatic management of anxiety, alcohol withdrawal etc. I have seen a patient that a doctor started on a family member of Diazepam called Clonazepam for tinnitus and he developed dependence and got hooked on the drug.
10 days is pushing it. 3-5 days or at most a week is probably a safer bet. It is not a medication you would like to be taking frequently.

Co-Codamol contains Paracetamol and Codeine. Codeine can also be addictive. As a one-off prescription it is probably okay for severe pain but still another medication that you should not be fond of. If the pain is not severe ordinary Paracetamol should be adequate.

The Betahistine is the one that seems to be obviously indicated out of all the medications you listed.

I specifically told him I don’t have ulcer and told him I don’t have pain in my tummy despite him asking repeatedly.

The headache returned after I stopped taking paracetamol, that’s probably why he prescribed a stronger one.

He sent me lifestyle modification which basically will turn me to a priest.

*LIFESTYLE MODIFICATIONS*

1. The interval between meal and going to bed should be at least 3 hours

2. At least 45° head up while in bed

3. Sleep on your side while in bed

4. Don't fast

5. Don't take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs eg Ibuprofen, diclofenac etc

6. Stay away from chocolate, ginger, alcohol, acidic fruits, carbonated drinks, coffee, Lipton and spicy food

7. Don't get angry/upset

8. Avoid anything your nose is allergic to eg dust, smoke, perfume etc

From those qualifications he is a highly qualified ENT surgeon.

Based on those lifestyle measures he advised and the fact that he prescribed Rabeprazole he seems to believe you have either an ulcer or some gastroesophageal reflux going on. Did he look into your throat with a camera or any other device?

It's not about the grammar, it's about the tone of the letter.

Nigerians are more forceful in their tone even when apologising. They don't write that meekly. Even the best Nigerian writers have a bit of "bite" and pride in their words even whilst apologising.

Nigerians will use stories and proverbs to apologise - "our people say the sun should not go down on your anger", "to err is human" etc to conceal their pride at apologising, they just don't start licking mud straight away and throughout the whole apology.

The tone used in that letter was specifically from a feminine or gãy British HR advisor, and one of total surrender, and was mined from ChatGPT. The thug that raked that guy doesn't have that in him.

There's PR-speak and it comes with a lot bullshitting and posturing. Maybe he outsourced it to a communications firm to word his apology. Maybe. The internet is rife with apologies by Nigerians using similar tones before ChatGPT became a thing.

Attributing any piece of writing which seems so delicately crafted devoid of what we expect to AI is ultimately saying Nigerians are monolithic in our verbal or lexical expressions. People write in millions of ways.

There goes the sweeping generalized assertions again based simply on personal anecdotes.

For me, the giveaway that the letter was written by AI is not so much the flowery and wordy tone but

1. The Title of the letter.

He wrote,

Dear Chidera,
LETTER OF APOLOGY TO MR CHIDERA

This is AI being used without proof reading, proper editing and correction.

It should have been

Dear Chidera,
LETTER OF APOLOGY

2. The overly patronizing tone and almost beggarly nature of the letter. The lecturer threw all his pride away. and was grovelling at the feet of the student. This is very uncharacteristic of a Nigerian lecturer.

3. The content of that letter went far and beyond the subject matter.

Look at the lines below:

I understand that my apology cannot erase the past, but I hope it can be a step towards healing and moving forward.

Erase past? healing? moving forward? kilode? on top a singular incident! When no be long term broken relationship?

Please know that I am committed to changing my behavior and ensuring that all my students feel safe, respected, and supported in the classroom. I will do everything in my power to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

How did a simple personal apology letter, expand in scope to ensuring all his students are respected, supported and feel safe in class?

If you are willing, I would like to meet with you to discuss how I can make amends and support you in any way possible. Please let me know if this is something you would be open to, and we can arrange a time and place that works for you.

Support? Did the student break some bones and land in hospital as a result of that clearance?

Again, this is overboard and uncharacteristic of a Nigerian lecturer, especially the one in question.

Even if I wan run this kain parole with the student, na to obtain hin digits, control am. give him a nice time and press small change for hin aza. Finish.

The letter is AI being used without human oversight and proof that AI sef dey gba.

Summarily, I can bet my March salary that the apology letter was generated by AI.

Some Nigeria doctors like to assume. That's one thing I don't like about them. I will never take any medication given to me without researching that medication. I learnt the hard way.

I just pray he will not experience withdrawal symptoms. He will beg for sleep and sleep will not come. For weeks and even month he won't see sleep. Terrible. This is where people get hooked on the medication by taking more to sleep.

We are still saying the same thing. Na ChatGPT write am last last. Most likely the Polytechnic HR drafted it for him using ChatGPT. I am OK to generalise if 95% if Nigerians don't write in this tone. This thug does not look like the other 5% from the way he raked that guy like a seasoned street nigga.

I have had a situation where HR has drafted responses for me to send to a subordinate over a dispute and they often sound like this in tone. I will tweak it to remove too much meekness from the communication and send back to HR to review before I send it out. It works the other way too, sometimes HR will send letter that looks too litigious stating dates of meetings etc and I will tweak to soften it cos the matter no too serious like that. Last last HR don't know the internal dynamics within a team and will always use the most extreme tone, whether it's conciliatory or litigious. These examples have now all been aggregated into ChatGPT which has produced this letter without any nuance. HR has clearly drafted it for this guy using ChatGPT. I don't think Polytechnic HR strong for bullshitting PR like this.

Did you read my first comment quoting Ibime? Maybe you missed it but it began with a "Maybe". Then I went on to oppose his assertion that Nigerians don't write in such a tone.
Plenteous evidence on the internet suggests there have been several letters of apology by Nigerians pre-ChatGPT so crafted.

Was the letter's content overly-patronising and pretentiously grovelling? Yes, it was; but that's not the point. The point is, Nigerians don't have a one-track mind and there's no definitive cast-in-mortar way we all write.

I state this because too many people on the internet these days try to downplay the penmanship of writers and the articulation of other social media users as "AI.".
