APC is expending all its arsenal on Elrufai. "When you corner a rat, it will fight back". The so-called master strategist should have known this. They pushed Elrufai until he had his back to the wall and left him no room to wriggle. What did they expect him to do? Even in terms of optics, Tinubu has lost the moral high ground because all Nigerians saw how hard Elrufai worked for his election. There is also a public video of Tinubu begging Elrufai in Kaduna to stay behind and work with him. That alone screams betrayal and Northerners do not take betrayals lightly.

It's because of the concept of "Trust" (Amana) that made many Northerners go against Buhari’s body language to support Tinubu in the first place. Northerners take pride in keeping their word no matter what. Why then would Tinubu break that trust? He gambled. Elrufai was never a direct threat to Tinubu. At best, his competitors were other Northerners like Ribadu. If Tinubu wanted to take his pound of flesh from Elrufai, he should have waited until his second tenure was secured. That's what a smart politician would have done.

Elrufai is a very dependable ally but a very formidable foe. Tinubu can no longer get 5.6m votes in the North with Elrufai openly campaigning against him and I don't see him making up for that deficit anywhere in the South. Not with his lopsided appointments. Maybe Tinubu thought Elrufai would be desperate and go contest the election in another party thereby further splitting Northern votes. How wrong he was! Elrufai would do more damage in 2027 without being on the ballot than if he was on it. There's no Northerner currently in Tinubu’s cabinet that can counter the damage that Elrufai will do.
All this epistle for Hell Rufai that lost almost everything to PDP?
Tinubu dey play with una brain. Another party to split votes and have him win again. He held no polical post or appointment when Buhari and Emefiele could not stop him. Na now wey he hold keys to everywhere dem wan stop am. Wait make time reach cheesy. You think say Tinubu na the Otuoke man?

Give it to Northernrs they understand this politics thing very well. One thing they have over the South is that they know how to reward loyalists.

Southerners never learnt that. The only one to do it from the South was Obj. He rewards loyalists. That's where they will have advantage over the South.

The South should be humbled and learn politics game from the North

All these moving to another party will make tinubu win again, u remaining parties will just have al ur votes shared,

Let them go and form their Northern party and do whatever they want..... Even Buhari knows that only North cannot win you a presidential election....

El-rufai is never a politician but a talkative and a nuisance....
Yes. This could also be a time the present government will need to work harder to alleviate the sufferings in the country, thereby gaining confidence of Nigerians.

With this new SDP, who will be on the ballots for 2027?

A Tsunami is coming! Tinubu failed to consolidate on his victory and became too pompous. This is Nigeria, not Lagos. He failed to reconcile with the South and at the same time, began to antagonize the North despite tanking the economy and causing a cost of living crisis with his spontaneous fuel subsidy removal. Very poor strategy from someone who won with the least margin in the history of the country.

Meanwhile, his supporters online are jubilating and patting themselves on the back just because Buhari said he's still a member of the APC. Is "I am for everybody and I am for no-one" a joke to them? Buhari's political mantra is like Nigeria's diplomatic policy, "non-alignment". Besides, what is coming is bigger than Buhari.

We will all learn politics together.
how does all this politicking benefit anyone apart from the politicians?

Peter Obi was the spoiler that scattered everything and gave Tinubu the chance.
Peter Obi now has got his card on his chest. So it's a different game now. Moreover they spoiled Labour party that shocked 2023 election winning Lagos, Abuja, 7 senators and 23 house of representatives and a Gov if a State that had been in wilderness.

2027 election will be a political game to watch.

South is smarter now;
Nothing like south! You did not think of south when you joined hands with north to remove a southern president. Even after tinubu won elections i know many people advised you guys to tone down the tribal rhetoric and unite the south, but pride and tribalism clouded your sense of judgment. You put yoruba people everywhere even though the yoruba votes were split significantly among LP, APC & PDP while the north gave you block votes were sidelined signaling the first betrayal. The second one was el-rufai. Tinubu became president because of him & tinubu openly told him that he should not go on his study leave but rather come and work with him, yet in your tribal yoruba fashion, you betrayed him. Tinubu is OTP

The highly credible source mentioned former governors of Rivers, Imo, Cross Rivers, Sokoto and Osun states, Rotimi Amaechi, Emeka Ihedioha, Liyel Imoke, Aminu Tambuwal and Rauf Aregbesola, respectively, as part of the stakeholders in the coalition movement.

A former Senate President, David Mark; ex-national chairman of APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun; a former Buhari’s Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, and the senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, among others, were also involved in the coalition.

If they are not on sharing table, the government is bad, they want to rescue Nigeria.
But if they are part of the government, .... Oh Nigerians should be patient things will normalize. Blah blah.
I can't imagine some people are celebrating El-rufai defection, same man they tag terrorist few years ago are now a darling.
If El-rufai is part of president Tinubu cabinet by now , he would have been singing and praising him for take bold decisions
Leave El-rufai alone nigerians needs a force that will uproot APC out of aso rock in 2027..the incompetent Tinubu government that has been putting nigerians in abject poverty, hunger, hardship... nigerians have been complaining of hunger, hardship, inflation, high costs of living, unemployment but the Tinubu government does not want to listen to the complain of Nigeria and address it ..rather they are compounding and adding more to the problems.. nigerians need a force and opposition party that will address all this issues and problems ..which El rufai is trying to recruit more competent politicians to join him to address this issues nigerians are facing and solve this problems nigerians are facing come 2027

I don't like commenting on topics like these, but haven't read all the comments, this is my input.
PBAT made a hugeeee mistake betraying El Rufai.
Most of his ministers don't have the effontry to campaign for him in the North because of the level of Hunger, Inflation etc.
El Rufai have the guts to do that. Which among his ministers from the north delivered during the last election? From Ribadu down to the rest none seriously campaigned for BAT like El Rufai did. Haven humiliated him during screening, APC went far by turning some of his allies to foes and chose to harass those that decided to stick with Rufai.
As it stands, I don't see APC wining any state in North Central, North East and North West if things doesn't change.
Inec Mahmood tenure will elapse this October and I know a Yoruba prof will replace him.
