You're obviously not knowledgeable on NYSC to say FG provides lodging for corpers, that's honestly the silliest comment on this thread. FG does not provide accommodation for corpers, they expect the PPA to do that and most PPAs expect the corpers to sort out their accommodation by themselves. When I served, we were 6 and all 6 of us stayed in a dilapidated lodge provided by the school. No light, no ceiling, no water, pretty much only good enough to lay our heads to sleep for the night.

When i served.. the corpers in my ppa stayed in a corpers lodge..

You were talking as if there's nothing called corpers lodge.

My uni friends put their monthly alawee together and were paying rent monthly.

These ones are trying to live above their means instead of putting money together
with her uni friends to rent an apartment.

I stayed in a house where I paid 5k per month....
I saw other houses where they paid as much as 200k per year but as my hand no reach am, will I go and steal to pay??

Corpers lodge are far much better now in places where house rent is 1.2m. Still most of them are deserted.

So what happens after that? 1960 till now nothing has changed and you say Rome was not built in a day, so she should live miserable and unhappy like 99% of Nigerians. I don't understand the way some of you reason. In lowly yenagoa, where I am currently, before you see a vacant selfcon in a relatively safe environment, you'll sweat and be milked seriously by agents, and definitely nothing less than 500k for a good selfcon. This is yenagoa, now imagine how it'd be in Ph and Lagos. Also keep in mind that these are young people who are being sent to places where they know no one and of course will prefer a safe neighborhood, maybe an estate, for security, especially for young girls. Also keep in mind that they do not have a lot of time to find an apartment, In yenagoa, you might spend over a month looking for a good selfcon, these corpers do not have that luxury cause there's no family member to take them in for the most part, so they're obliged to take the first option that can see that's relatively okay.
My point is that the corpers are the victims here, they did not ask to be sent for service, if FG were to make the NYSC voluntary, I assure you that most people would prefer not to go for it. FG forces graduates to go through this and should therefore provide for them for the duration of the service. Imagine all the corpers that have died on the road from kidnappers, bad roads etc, believe me, I wouldn't wish nysc on my enemy with the way the economy is and FG's refusal to implement their minimum wage

Nobody is imposing anything on you. At some point in life, you have to get out of your comfort zone. Some graduates that did NYSC and even had years of experience but japaed, are even sleeping on the street abroad because they are yet to settle. Life is not bed of roses, whatever you need to do ( within the bounds of the law) to pass through a stage in life, do it.

Some Graduates from the same university usually serve in the same state. Corpers should reach out to their fellow uni graduates and split the rent amongst each other instead of complaining.
