BlueRayDick:The bolded is so so underrated. Bar say UNILAG (I mean as regards exposure), you won't get anything remotely like this from public universities, and the only reason you're getting it from UNILAG is cause they're in Lagos and private sector is heavily invested. If money dey, I'd always advice good private universities over these best public universities. |

Amigoss:Caught the scope since election time...all those yeyebrities that would throw themselves in the thick of Obidient anger were farming persecution that they would use to secure favor when the time came. I can't even knock the hustle, especially from those at the lowest rung of society, sometimes it's them hustling to save their heads in what seems a system that'd otherwise never look their way. |

GloriousGbola:No that cannot compare to the Naira amount you are saving which govt is paying on your behalf to get an education which you will use for the rest of your life Unilorin graduated on time and on subsidized fees and from most of your accounts - it did not improve your perception of northerners. shebi you had the principal with multiple wives, multiple children and 101% dependent on governors largess? and fake moral superiority? There is nothing I saw in those Northern rural communities that I wont see a version of it in rural SW or rural anywhere, SE, SS, NC of the country.. You think its only in the NE where the principal will have multiple wives? or someone will depend on govt largesse? Moreover its their lives and its good to be exposed to it and not live in your bubble in the SW One of my students in that rural village became a Lecturer and Head of dept in a tertiary institution in that state, and we still chat till date |

BlueRayDick:Then why didnt you go to those Private Unis despite all these perks you listed? The reason I didn't go was because I could not afford it, If private Unis were the only options, I wont have a degree. I got a degree because govt paid a bulk of my fees and if 1yr of minimum wage is how I get to pay it back, then i think that's a fair deal |

Theflint1:Lmao ![]() |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 2:39pm On Mar 17, 2025 |
Theflint1:If money dey being key, For the bulk wey money no dey, Govt subsidized was the fall back option. Without that govt subsidized school how will they get a degree? How many people go fit afford private Uni. ? So to pay back 1yr of minimum wage is not a bad deal IMO. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 2:41pm On Mar 17, 2025 |
raumdeuter:you do not know the actual story of unilorin. we had multiple strikes up to 2001. because there was a battle between a cabal of lecturers and the VC. it was after this that strikes ended. so i experienced at least one extra year due to strikes. since you want to use unilorin as a reference also towards 1999, cultism took root. some expelled cultists were admitted into unilorin and things were no longer safe. and we definitely had psycho lecturers . the other day we were cursing one of them on our WhatsApp group |

GloriousGbola:You couldnt have had it worse than me. I went to Ife Where within my 5yrs we lost time to Ife-Modakeke crisis, cult killings, Aluta, Multiple ASUU strikes and lecturers deciding to cancel a whole session because they were tired My mates who got admitted to Unlag graduated 2 full years before me. Despite all these, I didnt leave in anger and face private Uni because I couldnt afford it. I dey bant one of my private Uni friends say na dem be bougie people, If private Uni was the only option I would likely learn mechanic work At the time when Igbinedion dey charge 250K for school fees and national minimum wage was 2,500 or 3,500 |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 2:47pm On Mar 17, 2025 |
raumdeuter:so would you agree that you have already paid for the subsidized education in years lost ? keeping in min that time is the one resource that cannot be regained ? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 2:49pm On Mar 17, 2025 |
Theflint1:There is the political and the economic reason. The govt wont tell you openly the economic reasons. Its simply govt getting cheap labor for 1yr. Graduate level labor for minimum wage for 1yr Without NYSC, Imagine how much understaffed like 70% of secondary schools in Nigeria will be or how much govt will have to pay to staff them to the level NYSC does |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by KingTom(m): 2:50pm On Mar 17, 2025 |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 2:51pm On Mar 17, 2025 |
GloriousGbola:If I want to pay it I will put out the cash, That time if they had given me 5yrs as a 16yr old to raise 250k per year, where I wan see am or where civil parents with about 3-6 kids wan see am to spend 250K on just 1 child per session when many civil servants annual income was not up to 250k |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 2:51pm On Mar 17, 2025 |
raumdeuter:You are the one saying because public university is "cheaper" than private school, then public university graduates must subject themselves all sort of nonsense we go through during NYSC as "Thank You" to government. All I did was show u that there is an opportunity cost to that so called "cheap" public university education. Saying they must go through NYSC hassle as payback despite the opportunity cost already highlighted above is an overkill. |

raumdeuter:at the time nysc was set up there were no understaffed secondary schools. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 2:59pm On Mar 17, 2025 |
BlueRayDick:There is an opportunity cost and the NYSC is part of it too. The Govt is paying lecturers and the University on our behalf for those 4-5yrs of study. The difference between what you paid for your public school and a private school even with 1yr of minimum wage job cannot cover it For me, I was able to earn minimum wage, I got some extra side income by teaching students and helping with UNICEF gigs, the money I made from the NYSC I used to buy GRE textbooks, kick start job search like buying browsing time at cyber cafe, transport fares to VI for resume submissions, aptitude tests and interviews instead of going to meet my parents for that money again |

KingTom:Or maybe do the easy and violent-free thing of getting a voters card, picking a politician that's least opposed to your values and giving them your vote come election day. APC keeps telling people that all politicians are the same, but nobody has shown Nigerians pepper the way they have...so much for all politicians being the same. |
