Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, alongside others, showed solidarity with Rita Uguamaye, a serving corps member, after she was summoned to appear before the Local Government Inspector (LGI). However, upon arrival, the LGI was nowhere to be found throughout their stay at the local government office.

Sowore shared a video of their arrival at the LGI office and wrote on his X handle (formerly known as Twitter):

"The journey with youth corper Ushie Rita Uguamaye has commenced in Lagos. She is scheduled to appear before the LGI today, and we will escort her to their offices. We are all en route with attorneys."

However, after waiting for several hours without the LGI showing up, Sowore made another post, stating:

"We arrived at the Eti-Osa LGI office of @officialnyscng with youth corper Ushie Rita Uguamaye in Lagos. She was scheduled to appear before the LGI today, and we escorted her with attorneys @mrfestusogun, @yinka_oyesomi, and @justiceojienoh. However, the LGI official absconded, failing to show up throughout our stay."

Reacting to the post on X, a follower named Adekunle Oderinde demanded the prosecution of the absent LGI official, saying:

"The NYSC officials who abandoned their duty post should be made to answer for their absence. Since they claim to know the law, they should also face disciplinary proceedings."

Rita Uguamaye, a serving corps member, had earlier cried out after being threatened by an NYSC official for refusing to take down a video in which she criticized President Tinubu’s government, calling it “terrible” and complaining about the economic hardship in the country. The video has since gone viral, sparking widespread discussions in Nigeria and even attracting international attention, especially after Amnesty International reacted to the saga.

The corps member has received overwhelming support from many notable Nigerians and politicians, who are urging the NYSC not to victimize her simply for expressing her views on the government.

Keep deceiving yourself. I have never seen Tinubu supporter who will not involve the Eastern part of Nigeria. My country home is Niger Delta. I was one of those who campaign against Jonathan government in 2014 since he lost grip of his government and supported Buhari but after the great disaster of Buhari first term I completely went against APC. So I have been on that journey till date.

In the hierarchy of statute and law, protocols are lesser in power than the grundnorm. The right that lady exercised is her constitutional right to Liberty and freedom.

Tinubu is a commoner who was supposedly elected by the people , and this lady belong to the supposed people , therefore she has all the rights to react , complain and express her observations about the job Tinubu is delegated to do by the people when he was voted as the president.

In addition, she didn’t allege the president of unfounded claims. The facts she stated are true. This is a democratic government.

If Tinubu and any of his wannabe supporters , with fish brain had been educated and intelligent enough, they would know that by now they are the ones painting the image of this country in bad light among international communities.

Is Tinubu’s government satisfactory to me- no, Tinubu’s government is nothing different from other past governments we have had. In fact, his administration is worse than all previous Nigerian administration combined.

If Tinubu feels his right has been infringed or violated, the door to the court is wide opened. Thank God with the stolen public funds, paying for litigation services of SAN won’t be his problem. So he should call the attention of the court to it.

Witch hunting this innocent lady is a violation of her constitutional right to Liberty and freedom.
Protocol is meant to serve administrative purposes - to treat basic omission of members of a group, and in this case NYSC.

If NYSC feels their member has offended any of the terms or regulations of their organisation, they should subject her to investigation and disciplinary proceedings accordingly.

Even where such tribunal had come out with their report or findings and found her guilty, she has the right to access the court for “judicial review .”
These are laid down laws made for the management and control of everyone in Nigeria.

Why then do our leaders always like turning these laws upside down ?

Why ? Tinubu will not end well!!!!!
