By default, the declaration of a state of emergency is the suspension of the Constitutional order in the affected place. It brings the state directly under the control of the president. In effect, it is a civilian version of military rule.

Check my post 2 days ago, I said "a state of emergency" was the way forward. There is an occurrence and imminent danger in the state of the federation as pipelines are already being bombarded and threats flying left, right and center.

There is a breakdown of public order that poses a threat to public safety in rivers state and requires extraordinary measures to curtail an implosion and restore peace and security. The president met with the warring parties, they had an agreement but after they left the Vila, they continued fighting.

The president also received a request to impose a state of emergency from the legally recognised judicial arm of government in Rivers State and the Federal Executive Council.

In other words, the President suspended a democratically elected Governor, not because he has any constitutional powers to do so, but because there is no law preventing him from doing so?

Think of it this way. If there was no law on state emergency, would Tinubu have the right to declare state of emergency because there's no law preventing him from declaring one?
