Anem...
And we have a saying im my place(Ibibio)...
"Umu dia gha anem, dia no inem aying ado."(Don't know if my written Ibibio is good)grin
The saying means..."Even if you don't eat Anem, eat it because of it's name. "

The Irony of the whole thing is that, "Anem" means something that's sweet. And we all know that this yam is usually bitter. So, if you don't eat it because it's bitter, eat it because of its name.

Really?
Can you enlighten us on why it's forbidden.

Even in Yorubaland, it has some strange peculiarities around it. It's not considered to be an ordinary food. It's mean for certain people that belong to the spiritual realm.
That's a white lie!

Esuru is eaten in all parts of Yoruba lands, no spiritual attachments.

Water yam is basically for pounder yam (in my place) we don't eat it.

We eat the normal yam and yellow yam (ogumodu)

Una!! The three leaved yam. Leaves anyone that eats it with elongated tongue in my community. It’s highly forbidden and I don’t want to be the first to taste it.
