I think in the EPL you need 5 yellow cards for a suspension. It doesn’t have to be consecutive.

Card match day 3
Card match day 8
Card match day 11
Card match day 16
Card match day 23
Suspension match day 24
It remains to be seen sha...how CAF will react. But me tend to reason that SA cannot be in error. 'cause they are also no novice. And each match has something like a CAF rep. An official that presides over the match. Who would have noted it had they flouted any rule

I think it must be yellow card in 2 consecutive matches. Match Day 1 and Match Day 4 are not consecutive matches.
Be prepared to play and win on the field of play. No back door points to qualify for the WC.
If you are knocked out of the qualifiers, you come sit at home and watch others play. The WC is nobody's birth right!
It is accumulated yellow cards. Not consecutive. Same thing happened to us in 2018 when we fielded Shehu. 3 points and 3 goals was deducted from us. We were only lucky because we gapped the second place.

When is that rule started?

It is always two consecutive matches.
Check the screenshot. That has always been the rule. It doesn't have to be consecutive.

He actually received 2 yellows in those WC qualifiers but...

Maybe his yellow card was reversed

Else na 3pts to be deducted from SA. smiley
Yellow card is not reversible but red card!!!

Oga, that is not the rule.

Was Nigeria not docked three points for the last AFCON 2023 qualifier against Algeria on similar grounds, when Abdullahi our right back was found to have been fielded even after getting two yellow cards in non-consecutive matches?

Naija prayer don dey work again oo! The issue is already causing serious wahala in South African media outlets.

Nice job by the OP. I would have expected someone to cite the rulebook but they are asking ChatGPT which has used "may". I have already seen the South African press pick up the story.

This thread reminds me of when nairaland used to be the go to source for original news and insightful discourse.
There was a time nairaland used to be the source of news for other mainstream and SM Blogs with articles and quotes being lifted from this sight.
Unfortunately,Seun took his eyes off the ball or became static and allowed the dogs of liars, dis informants, scammers, ethnic and religious jingoists to take over the site.
This information from this Op can be seen or passed to the NFF who can then pursue the case with CAF or FIFA.

Teboho Mokoena (Yellow Card 54 mins ) vs Benin- Match Day 1

Teboho Mokoena ( Yellow Card 52nd minute ) vs Zimbabwe -Match day 4

He should have been suspended for their game vs Lesotho, but he played. If confirmed, South Africa will be deducted 3 points.

Let NFF and CAF/FIFA know as this could be to the benefit of the Super Eagles

Re: World Cup Qualifiers: Did South Africa Field An Ineligible Player Vs Lesotho? by ARISHEM:
“If players or team officials receive two cautions in one match (in matches decided by penalties) or in two different matches of the competition, they will be automatically suspended from their team’s subsequent match,” FIFA stated in the rule book.

However, a protest from Nigeria or Lesotho, who sit four points behind the South Africans in the group could also be disregarded by FIFA if it had not been submitted at the stipulated time..
If NFF will not submit a protest at the stipulated time thinking Lesotho will do it for them we will be the one pained. NFF are not serious at all o.

FIFA makes exceptions. We were deducted points many weeks after our match vs Algeria.

In life, you take your chances while playing by the rules. Get off your high horse with that BS of be prepared to play and win on the field of play.

If found to be true, the NFF should exploit it while treading cautiously and giving its best support to the Nigerian coaching crew and players

Nigeria lost 3 points in the 2018 world cup qualifier for something similar but still qualified though. It was the match against Algeria.

All the times Nigeria failed to qualify for world cup in the last 30 years, it is to some flimsy rules like away goals , but equal points. In 2006 world cup qualifier, we had way superior goal difference than Angola. in 2022 world cup qualifier, we lost on away goal to Ghana, even though it was 1-1 aggregate. Go figure.

what rule determined that it is too late ? Wasn't. Lesotho game just 4 days ago? It seems an average Nigerian suffers from self hate.

The question now is; did Nigeria or Lesotho submitted a protest letter within the stipulated time frame? If not it died on arrival!

That's a point. I think it's 72 hours timeframe.

When petition was submitted is different from when FIFA took action. But FIFA doesn't need petition. They will act once they notice themselves and thank God they're not blind to this.

Drop the emotional reply. You're not more Nigerian than the guy you replied. No one "hates" Nigeria here.

The rule says petition must be submitted within 72 hours after the match was played.

But that's petition. FIFA will act anyways if they notice it without petition. So, we're good

We should focus on our game today and the rest game. SA have no hidden place, they've lost 3 points and 3 goals already. The rule which has also affected us in the past is very much applicable to now. Go ahead Eagle

Actually yes they did...
And if the investigation is confirmed correct by FIFA(which is a surety) then South Africa are cooked...
The question is will points be given to Lesotho?
Re: World Cup Qualifiers: Did South Africa Field An Ineligible Player Vs Lesotho? by presty83: 2:03pm On Mar 25, 2025
The fact remains that south Africa fielded an illegible player in their game against Lesotho. But one thing stands out based on caf rule. Lesotho must write to caf to complain after which caf will carry out investigation regarding their complain. If caf found south Africa guilty they will be sanctioned and 3 point deducted from them and giving to Lesotho. And the result shall be 3:0 in favour of Lesotho.

That is what caf and fifa rules stated.

So congratulations to Nigeria while waiting for lesetho to lunch appeal to caf and fifa.

South Africa already know the consequences and they have instructed their coach not to field the player against Benin just to appeal to caf and fifa decision.

I really feel for south Africa if caf and fifa come strong against them. They should blame their football manager for this nonsense mistake.

And CAF should be blamed. With availabilitu of technology such mistakes should not be acceptable!
Caf can never be blamed. It is the managers fault. In football and other games. They gives you room to make mistake so that your opponent can take advantage of it. That is part of the game. It is called negligent.

Point will be given to Lesotho and 3:0 score line awarded to them. That is what fifa and caf rule stated.

Go to BBC FOOTBALL AFRICA you will see the analysis there.

Also. CAF and FIFA rule also clearly established this fact.
